Very true, and true in general about fishing...have to be flexible and open to changing circumstances.

There can be the problem of carrying around small fish when the release is too tight and often by the time you realize it (especially in rough water conditions etc.) it is too late for the fish if needed to release. If the release is set to about 3 lbs or so smaller fish can struggle and release it much of the time. Using the (about $10 digital luggage scale e.g. Walmart) can allow you to fine tune things to your preference rather than guessing. I tighten the release tighter than that when running attractors.

When you are having that kind of fun with family it is better than winning the grand prize in any tournament.

If using Blacks or similar get a digital luggage weighing scale attach it to the release and crank the release down to about 3 lbs.... that should help

They will work with recessed gunwale rod holders but the length of the metal tubes needs to match up with the length and orientation of the recessed holder tubes so that they remain above the gunwale in the right orientation. Might want to measure the length of metal tube downpipe on the riggers. Just a suggestion Some recessed holders are at an angle and not at 90 degrees too.

Hi Stan, I was there yesterday....launched at Dean's. Water level was just right. We trolled south on west side to about across from the power plant. That area was free of debris until across from power plant when it started to get some intermittent debris a few pieces of wood some scum on top, and some weeds on the boards and riggers. It was mainly an east wind until the afternoon so I'm not sure where it was coming from. The water was fine all along the west side from Deans until we reached that point though. We were after landlocks and browns but only caught lakers on jointed black and silver Rapala on board 7 colors leadcore and 4 color, and then doubled on rigger set at 32 foot one fish on cheater with Elmer Hinckley #87 silver and and a #666 silver on the main one about 7-8 lbs. (pic). fun having the two on one line Caught total 7 lakers -, all released fine. They really slammed those Hinckley spoons and lost a couple big ones on the boards (sunk the boards when they hit) A lot of bait 60-98 ft water.....huge amount right at Sheldrake Point.. Most fish came over 50-68 ft water.

The max. HP rating can be independent of the motor weight as I think it may be related to the difference in thrust between the 2 stroke and 4 stroke motors. The recommended max HP difference can be very much less for a 4 stroke motor than for the 20 hp rating for the 2 stroke...that is why I mentioned it. I'm not a marine mechanic so someone else may want to address it... I just noticed that the bracket itself is aluminum and sometimes the max rating can be different for them vs. a stainless steel bracket too. Just thought I'd mention it so you can be sure (and safe) out there

Ah.....I have kept 3 Mag 10A's and one Digitroll in service rather than go to the newer Cannons purposely as I prefer the slower retrieval rate and lack of problems, so the clip nests in them fine when retrieved so I understand the concern. I use the slower retrieval rate to rig things or change out lures while the rigger weight is one the way up. Dinosaurs like me have learned patience over the years I also have the drag on the riggers set so that if I don't get to it right away it just keeps the weight there while the wheel spins on the 10A's. I don't have autostop on them (thankfully in my view)

Lookin good. The one question I would have is did you carefully check the capacity max on the bracket because there can be a big difference between the max rating (both weight and horse power) for 2 stroke kickers and 4 strokes. Nice looking job on the mounting.

My "go to" for stacking is something I rigged up about 40 years ago (or more) and it has worked fine. It follows the principle of "simplicity can make sense" The trot line clip fastens to the downrigger cable at the one end of it by clipping to cable at the desired spot on the cable after the main lure is sent down. The rubber band is tied at one end to the lure line set out to desired length and then snapped into the duolock snap which is held to the trotline clip by shrink tubing. After release and the downrigger cable is retrrieved the trotline clip comes to the end of the downrigger and slides in place to be retrieved and used again.

Maybe wrap them stretched out fully with stiff shiny type paper before putting them in the ziplock?

Dre: I'm not sure of the specific answer to your question, but I do know that some types of plastics don't go well together and sometimes degrade some plastic baits. can fuse them together or melt them etc. Might want to take a couple of them and put them in the ziplock and see what happens rather than risking all of them

The browns have been in the lake and Naples Creek for years and they seem to be getting along OK
