  1. You may be able to do what I did. Here is what I use
  2. I had to have one of my towing eye bolts moved but I was able to have the bracket fit in (barely). By the way although some folks may not believe it you may not need a steering arm to troll. I used an EZ steer for a few years and it was a pain so I tried not using anything at all and under most conditions it works fine without any I just tilt the small motor a few degrees toward the main and then steer with the main motor (135 Merc) I also have an extension for an electric trolling motor that fits over the tiller handle if I need it so I don't have to reach out and can adjust easily inside.to change direction. If it is real windy I troll with the big motor.
  3. I think he is referring to Cayuta Lake a small lake at the south end of Seneca lakes
  4. Ditto. Tohatsu makes a 9.8 that is 90 lbs. (without any tilt/trim etc.) ansd it electric start with charging. outboards online is about the most reasonable pricing-wise.
  5. I nearly always run 8 ft. sliders off the riggers for extra stuff in the water. The exception is while running in real shallow
  6. The only real way to tell is to experiment with and without on the water. Each spoon can have a different designed action determined by its general shape, width, and the angle of the cup at the end so the best way to know for sure is to try it out both ways and make your determination based on actual performance data.
  7. If you stay with the same size hook the XX stuff shouldn't make any difference. Years ago I shifted to single 2/0 and 3/0 (for mags) Mustad Stainless Siwash salmon hooks 9510xxx and never looked back. They penetrate real well, don't rust, don't break or bend, and it is easier to release fish with out damage (using needle nose pliers) quickly. They have an open loop so replacing them on existing split rings is a breeze

Welcome to LOU. Great website with a lot of very generous and experienced folks. I think you will enjoy it here
  9. Black's release to 30 lb Seaflee (to help with flea problem) for mainline then #8 Spro swivel to 20 lb Segaur fluoro leader to small solid ring ball bearing swivel.
  10. Nice report. Got to feel good just to be out there
  11. I'd be looking at West Coast boats. (if it wasn't for my love of Whalers)
  12. Must have been a dream Keith
  13. Nice going Steve. Looks like you guys had a blast
  14. Good luck Maisie
  15. Any color.....as long as it is BLACK
  16. Maisie - it is a little difficult to tell from the pic but I think it is monel wire which is a composite alloy of nickel mixed with copper. It is very soft and has a similar sink rate to copper wire and was used by many folks for jerking copper like the use of the victrola.
  17. Encouraging report and great looking dog
  18. Sure glad I have held on to my Mag 10A's all these years.... slow yes but in my world that is good. I value stability over speed and I don't need the heavier weights the way I run riggers anyway. My theory is if something works stay with it. Something to be said for "old school" I guess
  19. I think you're going to like it here Welcome!
  20. A couple things come to mind. a) you want to be away from direct sources of turbulence and this depends somewhat on your hull design and the chines and strakes on the hull. The location should be towards the outside of the transom in a "clear" "flat"spot. Can be on either side of the transom and you didn't mention if you intend to have a kicker mounted. If so it should be opposite side of that. b) Depending on the frequency of the fishfinder, it may or may not be a problem locating it near that transducer. The frequency of the Fishhawk is around 70 khz so if your depthfinder is operating near that range (e.g.50khz) it may be advantageous to locate on opposite side. If the depth finder is operating in a range higher than 100 khz you usually shouldn't have a problem with interference.

Cool. Each off these lakes can be considerably different from one another though as some such as Canandaigua or Keuka don't have the amount of water flowing into it as Cayuga does from Seneca and Seneca does from Keuka. A lot more control on the lakes hooked up to the canal system.

Going to be interesting launching this spring on many of these launches on the lakes. Water awfully low about everywhere.
  23. There are a lot more critical things involved than ice fishing. The sale of perch being allowed is the biggest problem. When money is attached to anything greed takes over. It is interesting how many of the people taking out perch to sell and those taking of all sizes believe that it is an infinite resource that can be hammered day after day without any repercussions or lessening of numbers... it resembles "magical thinking"
  24. Have always used wire Don (since 1975). Have never had any significant issues with it either but again it is a preference thing mostly but they do sing once in awhile too....
  25. A lot of options but I use 30 lb Bloodrun Sea Flee on the riggers (clear), For leaders 20 lb. clear Seaguar Fluoro for leaders. 12 Lb. Big Game mono (clear) for browns (Spring to early summer but have on high capacity reel s for occasional king) with 8-10 lb fluoro leader. For dipsys 30 lb stranded stainless wire both camo and silver versions. Others also use 65 lb braid instead of running wire. A lot of the larger diameter line relates to the waterflea problem.
