It will be a tough decision whether to fish for perch or trout on Seneca soon

I think if I was stuck on an island with only one choice of lure it would probably be a rapala

Good point Justin....I can relate

Well I finished my lawn work about 2:30 PM and decided to give the rainbows a shot again launched at 3PM and came back in at 5:05PM . Dropped 2 downriggers at the pump house marked a bunch in 72 ft near bottom and bait but no takers again....(probably not even trout but they get ya going....) trolled on diagonal along west side and out from Notre Dame Retreat house in 178 ft water rigger down 50 ft....downrigger trips and goes slack...then all hell broke loose..rainbow taking line repeatedly and headed for bottom...never jumped. He hit a gold and silver Rebel (4 inch). When I got him closer to boat I noticed that he had swallowed over half of the lure and had both trebles in his throat so I boxed him 25 1/2 inch about 6 lbs. Trolled on....about half hour later right after marking fish right in the stream of both downriggers the 55 ft.rigger fires and I had a jumping jack on the loose...jumped twice and then headed for the boat...while I was trying to steer and take in line at same time....got him to side of boat 5 lb rainbow so took his pic and released him at back of boat..took off fine. He hit one of my doctored up Sutton 22's out about 40 ft. Right after that I was pulling in my braid rig because I wanted check for fleas (had a puke green Spinny and green fly on it behind the black dipsey. I had set the drag tight and started reeling in pretty fast when BAM I had one of the hardest hits I've ever had (with the dipsey already released no less) almost lost my balance at the side of the boat because it took me by surprise and then gone....When I reeled in my Spinny and fly were gone ....the duolock had straightened right out. Had one more release and it was a 10 inch rainbow released OK. I met an older couple taking their boat out at the ramp and asked them to take my pic with the fish and then I gave t em the rainbow...they were going to grill it when they got home Wind was up but nice time of it nonetheless. The bow I kept was colored up with a nice reddish stripe in the middle but the bright sun kinda obscured it in the pic.

Hey Ed, Check to see that air isn't getting into the gas line I had that one too some time ago found that the fitting itself was leaking messed up where it attached to the motor and the fuel line was sucking air at it and bulb wouldn't get (or stay hard) also replaced the bulb then My buddy suspects you may have a chunk of dirt in the carb....as much as I hate to say it he is almost always right with mechanical stuff

Ed, My buddy Admiral Byrd (Bob) reminded me that Barrett's is primarily Merc oriented. Larry Japp at Roy's Marina just south of Geneva on Route #14 would be the "go to" guy for Evinrudes. The guys at Frog Hollow might be closer though.

The 10's should be OK I use 8's a lot. The lighter line really helps feel the light biters but I'd just use a longer leader maybe (as far as visibility). The thing about the hooks is that the small fish are easier to get off and release with the shallow barb of the Aberdeen and the thin wire on the hooks helps with them not detecting it when biting. The #10's should work fine ....just may have some swallow the hook. P.S. In a pinch I have used #6 or 8 salmon egg hooks tied directly to the line (used to use dropper loops but felt that I couldn't feel them as well) If use shorter shank hooks bring needle nose pliers.

4 lb test either mono or firewire with 2-3 ft. fuoro (4 lb) leader with 2 gold hooks (Aberdeen Mustads - fine wire small barbs) tied directly to the leader no loops about 8 inches off bottom and18-20 inches up for the second and a small sinker (1/4 to 5/8 th oz at bottom) Drift with it until you find them then repeat or anchor a distance away from them and cast back into them. They are on their way in (next couple weeks?) so I'd start at 20-25 ft or so and work back in at the outer edge of the weedlines drifting

Did mine online...all you need is the number that is on the letter they sent out or you can look it up on site and they then sent a confirmation email. Here is the address: http://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star13/default.htm or here's the phone number for getting the number : 518-457-2036

Oh OK Ed. When I was having that same problem with my 9.9 (carburated 1987) I put a half a can of carb cleaner in with the gas (3 gal tank) and that seemed to correct it too.
-
Ah OK . I think the Stabil/Sea Foam still might be worth a try though.
-
Ed - Do think there is a possibility of problems with the gas itself (e.g. water or condensation in the tank or lines ) ? It can act like that....good to go one minute then coughing sputtering or running rough the next. I wouldn't think it would hurt to put a bunch of the triple strength Marine Stabil in the tank and maybe some Sea Foam (both at Wally). I use that Stabil throughout the year in my tank (60 gal.) and add it every time I get gas ( 91 octane non ethanol). Also if you have another gas can (e.g. 6 gal tank) and fuel line I'd try fresh gas in that first and by-pass your other tank and line.....(if it is oil injected disregard).

Nice work Ed! Wish I could figure out the brown situation here....starting to get a bit worried as nobody I know has caught one recently on Canandaigua. I'm not giving up though. Hope you get to the bottom of the big motor situation....might want to have Fran Barrett take a peek at it. Good luck. Les
