I've had my Opti for 11 years now and I've had it serviced at the marina for ten of those years and I've stored it inside all but last year (plastic wrapped). The one year I neglected to have it done and just used triple strength Marine Stabil and ran the water out etc. the following Spring I had to pay about $600 to have the lower unit serviced because there was a small amount of water apparently that got in somehow (that was undetected) and messed up the seals despite being inside an unheated barn. The tech manual for Opimax's indicates that the impeller needs to be changed every 2 years. I found that out this season and apparently the marina guys didn't know it either because it was in there for 11 years (without problems) but when it did happen was on the first day of the Trout Derby which I had spent the bulk of the winter preparing for and it required that I be towed 12 miles or more for the first time in all the years of boating (after overheating but luckily shutting off in time) and couldn't fish the rest of the 3 day derby. It sucked! Nitromusky's information is spot on for the Opti. It is a little different than some other outboards in that it is a high performance engine that in some ways requires a bit more attention to detail than some others to keep it running the way it is supposed to run....especially if i t is used to troll some or all of the time. P.S. I also run the triple strength Marine Stabil year round as well as periodically add Sea Foam to the gas tank and use non-ethanol gas these days.

Sorry to hear about your cooler Marty. Last year I forgot and left mine on the transom area of the boat on the way back from Woodville and I had the stroke of extreme good fortune to have a neighbor in the car behind me (unknown at the time to me) and he caught up with me down the road and gave me my cooler which only had a small crack in the corner of the top so it is still in service after 20 plus years of use

A lot of the things that should be verified are not looked at....especially Federally....for example millions have been paid out to GI's that were AWOL and it had happened repeatedly despite audits pointing it out, and Social Security and disability checks paid to people using the SS #s of dead people etc. and it goes on and on. The recent situation involving the high level federal employee who bilked the government (us actually) out of a fortune under false pretenses and while being absent from his actual job for a number of years without any scrutiny at all. In short the taxpayers are screwed.....totally incompetent government...blowing our money....and how about all the NYS L O.T.T.O fund money that was supposed to go to education....yet my school taxes came yesterday and they went up $600 this time to over five grand.

Canandaigua Perch fishing & almost witness to disaster 9-30-13

I think this one was accidental because of the south wind gaining in strength quite quickly. It was projected to be 6 mph and went much higher at that point it was blowing at least 15 mph or more. They sure scared me though as I thought they were going to crash into the metal break wall or the building (or the electric lines in front) for sure and at the last moment they pulled it off I was happy it ended that way. -
Cool despite the problems.... that wind from NE is always a problem and it usually lasts a while on the coast. I was on a tuna boat with a bunch of guys out from San Diego in 2008 and it got a bit rough part way to Mexico and it was "barf city" for a bunch of them. Luckily I've never been affected by that stuff (thankfully) but like you said they couldn't wait to get off the boat when we got back I'm getting psyched up myself for the Sneaky Lake "greenies". Les

Ah....I hope it doesn't come back on you as unintentional misrepresentation John...I think I'd try to have it changed if it were me....your call though. Good luck.

I doubt seriously whether the weight of this fish or any other can be accurately determined from digital photos alone and especially a "side facing" shot with the fish in the foreground. Additionally, the most critical visual feature of the fish for estimating is the area across the back i.e. how thick it is) along with length and girth measurements. Real nice fish regardless.

Ollie you have a PM. -
That's the reason I've kept mine on the trailer since it came out of the showroom and take it to the car wash immediately following every time I go out..... no exceptions . Once the heavy stuff is off the hull something that can clean and help maintain it is Attwood Hull Cleaner (sold in many places). It is biodegradable. It is a matter of applying it whether with a sponge or in a spray bottle (my choice.....rinsed out Windex bottle). You leave it on for about 2 minutes or so and spray it off with a hose.....does a good job of it. It is advertised as safe for the marine environment etc. but keep away from eyes and wear rubber gloves.

for sale : usa Revised and Reduced- 25' Grady White Sailfish/Closed
Sk8man replied to UpGrady's topic in Boats for Sale
Hans, That is one heck of a boat and it is obvious from the description and and pics that you have taken wonderful care of it. I think it is kinda like selling a house... it is a mainly matter of the right buyer coming along and saying "I'll take it" I'm sure a lot of folks have said to themselves "I sure wish I had the money right now....but with kids in college etc." Don't get discouraged...that is a boat that any fisherman would love to have....including me
