  1. Thanks Joe. Best of luck to you....although from the way you've been going in the tourneys thus far...I guess I should just say "keep doing what you're doing" Wish I wasn't tangled up this weekend...sounds like fun.
  2. To my knowledge there aren't any gobies in Canandaigua Lake. The browns can be bottom-oriented and that's why I ran my weight about1ft. off it when I marked some fish down there but they looked pretty much like lakers and weren't interested in any case.
  3. Thanks. I've been trying to avoid "lakerland" lately but yesterday as soon as I went 60 or below they were "on it" I wish there were landlocks in here but I pretty much target the bows as they are the most fun. I try to release 90 percent or more of them. I have been trying for browns as well but have not been successful for whatever reason. There used to be some real hogs in here but lately I haven't heard of anyone getting them.....not sure what is going on there....wondering if low water levels in the Fall have been messing up their spawn cycle or something. A few years ago I saw a 16 pound brown that had been caught here. I ran one line way back today with 8 lb test fluoro and spoons and sticks that have been successful in the past and fished the dropoffs in shallower early this AM and nothing....
  4. Thanks guys. Hope you make out OK with the big motor Ed. It can be a pain...and painfully expensive sometimes. I've been running some of that Sea Foam in mine lately and it seems to idle fine..... Les
  5. Had to give it another shot this morning after yesterday. Trolled the same area on the west side (against the south wind with the big motor). marked a lot of fish out from pump house in 60 ft water circled around several times even running the ball 1ft of bottom... several lure changes ...no takers. Trolled to Danny's place without a hit. Turned and went east to 100 ft and trolled north on the east side from the point south of the Christian camp and went deep and first rainbow hit on downrigger set at 50 ft. and 40 ft back over 197 ft with orange and silver Pirate spoon (looks like NK28). Didn't touch slider (25 incher) about 5 1/2lbs released unharmed despite having to net him because so crazy . Trolled on ...another one on 50 ft. downrigger with small black Evil Eye slider with green tape.....jumped several times and then spit the hook about 20ft from boat looked about 3-4 lbs and released unharmed. Trolled into 234 ft. and had heck of hit on 58 ft downrigger and "game on" knew it was a decent rainbow as he kept taking line then he jumped a bunch of times in a row and put up great fight....but because of it he was shot by the time I got him in so I had to box him (6 pounder). By then it was noon and time to go home. I ended up filleting him and giving him to an elderly lady I know down the road as my wife is complaining about the lack of freezer space . I remembered my camera today so here are some pics.
  6. Thanks Mike and good luck with the surf fishing....stripers?
  7. Thanks Mike. I wish I could join you guys this weekend but I have previous commitments (that unfortunately don't involve fishing) Maybe next time.
  8. I went solo this morning and launched at the north end and trolled the west side all the way to Cooks Point at the south from 60 ft of water to 240 ft. and then back north over the same water to German Brothers. The morning was incredible....I could barely keep a line in the water without it being nailed. Nearly all fish came from 50-58ft down over whatever. The afternoon was slower but still "active". All together boated 9 rainbows 8 of which were in the 4-6 pound range and very fat and healthy. One rainbow in the afternoon was about 12 inches . All rainbows came from downriggers except one and interestingly none came on the sliders. I ran things 30-40 ft back. I ran a 6 color leadcore for awhile but no action so switched to wire. They came on a mixture off medium sized spoons and 4inch Rebels (that I had doctored up) I also caught 5 lakers from 2-5 pounds two on downriggers and 3 on the wire rig with a monkey puke Spinney and green tinsel fly set at 180-200ft. out.. I also lost 2 nice bows about half way to the boat but got a real good look when they jumped and had another good sized laker got off the wire right behind the boat while trying to steer too. All fish released unharmed. Unfortunately I left my camera in my vehicle and didn't realize it until the first fish.....but what a day despite fighting the NW to NE wind during the afternoon (which was responsible for most of the lost fish. Also had some hits with nobody home. The most active day I've had out there in a while. I can't even imagine what it would have been like having more than 3 rods in the water today P.S. Forgot to mention - Trolling speed -2.43-2.96 mph (GPS and fishfinder within .2)
  9. You should use premium high performance lower gear case lube from the marina in it and you should also be running the special synthetic Optimax Oil in the oil injection system routinely (according to the factory techies anyways). It is best to use antifreeze (the type used in campers) in your system wherever water may be trapped including any live wells etc. The marinas usually add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and then run the fuel through the gas lines and engine briefly. Basically the main difference in the salt water Opti is related to corrosion protection in the parts that might be subject to it. The factory manual also recommends that the impeller be changed out every two years. Mine went this year and cost me a derby so you may want to have it checked to avoid problems.
  10. Still price better than the synthetic oil run in my Opti at $50 per gallon
  11. Nice rainbow Mike. There used to be tons of rainbows in there .....but recently not many being reported on.
  12. I think Paul hit the nail on the head....thinking back on some of the ones I've kept in the cooler overnight to filet in the AM (fished at night) I did notice the change in coloration....good info....
  13. Now that is a cool message!
  14. Sweet! They are one of my favorite fish to catch or eat. Nice going....thought about going this morning here on Canandaigua but too windy for solo.
  15. Right now the water temp isn't all that important for mature kings anyway...they are homing in on their native streams. I'd be trolling back and forth out from stream mouths. They will spread out all over so just have to experiment depth wise and as far as trolling speed it needs to be varied and with the J-plugs they can also be run closer to the ball as well especially when run towards bottom. Probably wise to make shorter in that case as they go all over the place and dive as well
  16. Walleye but different strain and/or different diet?
  17. Neat look at the chase routine...it does make you wonder how much really goes on down there when you think nothing is there and also the possible "nobody homes" mistaken grabs they may make without getting hold of the fly (e.g. the line or the Spinny etc.) Thanks for sharing.

  19. Nice going Tim! Looks like the fish has the same expression.....he was probably swearing from the looks of it
  20. Last year I had 2sets of spinneys/fly on the down riggers and apparently they tangled in the releases or the weights and when I pulled the lines they busted off and they were brand new out of the package that day ....and then this season...a couple of Seth Green rig lines with spoons and sinker bead chains (among other things) etc. ....all part of the "fun" I made the mistake of mentioning it to my wife ....her response was "Why is it that all your hobbies are so expensive"?
  21. I think that is about the only game in town that I know of now..I sure miss ole Bill Snyder's Bait and Tackle shop over there.....but....I did get to buy out most of his Sutton's (couple hundred) when he closed up shop way back when
