  1. If you wish to be in the river, Fort Niagara has public ramps for trailered boats. The south ramp (upstream one) is best and can accomodate large boats. Cost is about $10. Upstream from there is Petroy Marina, located in Youngstown. There you can rent dockage. Josh Stack @716-807-9406 can provide more information for you. That's all there is in that area on the US side. Many dock in Wilson and Olcott and make a run to the river from there (12-18 miles). Hope this helps.
  2. I entered right after LOTSA show. Hoping others jump onboard. There is a two day pass for $35 and charter captains could get money without being entered themselves. See above link.
  3. Humminbird has a connector on the transducer lead that can split the signal to different screens. Other brands probably have a similar system.
  4. That set-up will work. Just add a barrel swivel (small enough to pass through rod and reel guides) to connect to florocarbon leader at the end before the lure. Leader lengths typically start at 10 feet and can be of any quality mono if you don't have fluro. Concept is to present that stickbait in a manner that the fish don't see the attached line pulling it. Because the water is shallow, they will be line and boat shy, but heavier lb. test can be used if pulling inside of a mud line. Lure loss is to be expected occasionally, especially when using lighter test to fool the fish. Lure action is affected by line diameter, so always check action alongside the boat first. A rapalla knot to the lure is good, but so is a rounded end snap. I prefer the snap, it's easier. Be safe, and catch a limit.
  5. We all make mistakes! Sincerely hope you get it back. And that it doesn't cost more than the gas to pick it up.
  6. Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Go directly to the prouducer- Moor Electronics on Dorothy Street in Buffalo
  8. Offshore Tackle makes an in-line planer board that you attach to your fishing line after the drop-back is complete. Then you release more line from your reel and the board swims to the side as far as you desire. They come in both port and starboard models. When a fish is hooked, the board is pulled back and movesbehind the stern of your boat. You fight the fish toward the boat until you can remove the board, then continue until landing the fish. Most tackle supply sources carry them. There are other brands available also.
  9. I've used in-lines on Erie trolling deep crankbaits for walleye. Removed the rear clip and replaced it with a snap swivel so I didn't have to take the planer off to net a fish (I fish alone a lot). The planer slid all the way to the lure with a fish on and caused the swivel to cut the knot to the lure a few times. When I added a bead to the line above the knot, the problem was solved. I enjoy using them and they worked good for the walleye in flat water or slight chop. I think you'd be better off with big boards in higher waves because these small boards can be hard to see in those conditions.
  10. Power pro will be OK if you attach a longer flourocarbon leader to it using a small barrel swivel. I use that set-up with a coastlok snap to attach the lure. Power Pro is slippery line, so I use a rubber band to attach to the planer line release.
  11. LOC results show a lot of success using cowbells with a peanut. Hammerhead lures maks my favorite ones. The large size lake-trolls . Follow them with a spoon, kwik-fish, wobble troll, fly, cut/whole bait a couple feet behind as if a wounded baitfish trying to keep up.. You likely already have things to pull behing the cowbells. Keep trollin speed slowwww (1.25-1.9) and lures just off bottom. Tracking bottom requires constant monitoring and adjustments. Sometimes a quick raising of the cannonball for 15-20' will trigger a strike when they appear uninterested. They don't always trip the release when near bottom, so keep an eye on the rods for signs of extra weight. Target water temps in low 40's. Near the Niagara River, they can be quite shallow during the winter and spring in 30' water (green can), but as summer comes they are found out deeper near the drop (red can). Canadian waters west of red can are my best areas. 8-10' leads from ball. Have some fun, and good luck.
  12. In your neck of the woods I'd try Daloussie and Welland areas in waters 5-100 feet deep. Look for temp differences and fish the warmer waters hard. Use stick baits near bottom in shallow with long leads and side planers and spoons out deeper with riggers or dipsies (2-3 setting, 100-250 ft. leads) if marking fish. Maybe someone else can direct you to closer areas to fish. Good luck!
  13. Got mine in Niagara Fall, NY at E-MAN custom vinyl graphics. 716-297-5073 On Laur Rd. (just off Military Rd.) Have held up since '06 on both the boat and the truck. Very reasonable prices.
  14. I've sent emails in opposition to this bill to every representative I have. That list includes county assembly reps, state senators, governor Cuomo, my congressional representatives and senators , even President Obama. The bill does not affect federal people, as Louise Slaughter replied, but I was pissed off! Figured a little pro-active sounding off might influence them not to let this occur at the federal level also.
  15. I like Stren! Overfilling the spool casn cause the birdsnest problem. Leave about 1/8 inch to tip of spool. Old line has a tendancy to retain coils which also leads to this problem. Change line every year or whenever you notice this happening.
  16. I can be available as an observer. E-mail to [email protected] and give information for contacting you to set it up.
  17. A cheap tactic would be to use screw in plastic coated bicycle hooks. That's how I store my rod/reel combos from the garage joists. Fully exposed, but easy to use.
  18. Your own homeowner insurance agent is the one to contact. Your own policy should cover your property wherever it is stored, subject to the limits of your policy. I don't think your father's policy will cover your goods. Also check with your boat insurance carrier for possible coverage. But the first thing to do is to determine what, if any, damage there is and then take pictures and call the agents for advice.
  19. Sorry to hear of the lack of response. E-Bay lists a 14 lb. fish shape mold by Sinkershop (3951) on auction. Buy price is $109.95. 29 days left for the auction, if that helps.
  20. FYI wereonum- A complete system includes a throttle actuator kit and cylinder bracket kit, both have to be purchased seperately and are MOTOR SPECIFIC. So if your kicker is different, you'll need to order the correct parts from a dealer.
  21. I have this card and am happy with it! This is a SUPER GOOD price for the interested. Wish it was available when I purchased mine for full price.
  22. Hi Mike I ordered the TR1-Gold and will be disconnecting the steering rod for use. Just a matter of sliding the end cover and lifting from the fitting. I'll have to wait to see if I'll be able to leave it disconnected permanently. Package included cylinder bracket kit, throttle actuator, shipping, no tax- for under $2600. Instalation price unknown at this time. Trollin Solutions (1-866-676-5006) if interested.
  23. Thank you all for the replys. I've also spoken with Garmin about my concerns and they gave me advice that matches what I've received here. I was leary of advice from the manufacturer, but you guys backed them up. So I called Trolling Solutions.com (in Idaho) and they told me the same. The complete unit has been ordered there at at cost of almost $1000 less than other sellers prices. And he told me that for an extra $125 or so I can order a splitter that will give me control from a second location (helm and motor in my 18'er) so the wireless is not needed. After I install the unit and learn how to use it, I might go with that option. He also suggested I mount both with velcro fasteners. L.O.U.is a great source of information and help from experienced fishermen who are willing to help other fishermen. It has made me aware of many options I would not have heard about anywhere else. That is why I gave the information about Trolling Solutions, in case someone else is considering an auto-pilot system. The TR1-Gold is for small outboards (up to 20 hp) and the GHP10 for larger motors, in case someone doesn't know.
  24. Am thinking about an auto-pilot purchase for a 2009 9.9 Honda kicker (with power trim). The Garmin TR1 Gold sounds real nice and I have read several posts about them. The boat is a 2006 18' Lund Fisherman. Questions I have include the possibility of poor steering as this motor is connected to and steered by the main motor. Will this be a problem, or should I simply disconnect from the main motor? Will the power trim be a problem? Another question is would I be content if I don't add the wireless remote as this is a smaller boat. Should I be considering other brands which may be more functional and/or cheaper? Experienced responses are hoped for and Thank You in advance.
