  1. 20 lb is alot less stiff than 40 lb line. I use the heavy line for spoons because i dont have any 20 lb line so I use what I have.
  2. i use 30 or 40 lb big game mono for leaders. I normally put spoons 10 ft give or take a foot off my down riggers. I dont run spoons on my divers because i always have flashers and flys on them but If i was to run them on divers id put a leader the lenght of your rod from diver to spoon.
  3. I use my med heavy rods for browns. I use the same rods for salmon. I have been looking at buying lighter rods but there isnt a need just a want. The only thing I do different is cut off my heavy 40lb mono leader and tie a 50 foot piece of 10 lb mono on for a leader. I do have the med heavy diawa wilderness rod and reel combos they work. the reel is nice and rod is ok. its good on the planer boards.
  4. I was of olcott out last night went 1 for 4. but that 1 we got to the boat was a 27 lb 6oz king. It was real slow for us and most people we talked to or saw at the fish cleaning station only had a few fish.

  7. Hey guys a few weeks ago I had a battery slide up against the metal trandsom area on my boat. At first I had no power looked at the battery and seem it was shorted out against the boat moved it then the engine would only crank and no fire. I looked under the cowling when I got home and found 2 ground wires completely melted and 1 was melted so bad it broke. I can't find any other wires that are grounded out or shorted to other wires. I sprayed starting fluid directly into the carb and it still won't fire so I have to assume I'm not getting spark. I don't know if I fried the coil packs or stator. Plugs are tight and not fouled. Fuel is present fuel filter is clear and battery is charged. Any suggestions would be helpfull [ Post made via Android ]
  8. Thanks for the suggestion I'm gonna get one. I was just thinking what I was gonna store it in. [ Post made via Android ]

  10. i bought a forschner cimeter knife with a 10 inch blade...black handle sunday from a website www.justknives101.com hopefully it comes tomorrow. I paid 47 bucks for the knife and UPS shipping. the knife was like 40 dollars but i found a promo code (prochef) for 10 percent off. So it ended up being 36 and change plus the 10 dollar ups shipping fee. I cant wait to cut something with this
  11. The noco on white haven rd on grand island sell 91 octane conventional (ethanol free) gas and so does the noco on hamburg turnpike in hamburg. Just the 91 octane has no ethanol the other grades of gas have 10 percent. Sunoco in buffalo is now carrying 91 octane conventional gasoline but I haven't heard of anyplace buying it. When I find out ill post it here [ Post made via Android ]
  12. Braid for leaders I meant to add. Go 3 times the length of your flasher for leader length [ Post made via Android ]

  16. ive been trying to find the muffler bearing grease for years
  17. Yes what nitro said. Id let it sit for a week and let it separate. Id use that gas for starting fires lawn mower weed wacker something not so delecate or expensive. When a place accepts contaminated gas they sell it and it goes to a say sunoco and they ship it to a transmix company like heath oil in barkeyville pa (near oil city off I 80) and that is the closest one to buffalo. And they separate it and resell it. [ Post made via Android ]
  18. pier propeller...its on river road in tonawanda almost under the grand island bridge. they are in the same building as collins marina
  19. I have the same problem with something drawing power off my battery while it is not being used and I cant find it so I always took out the battery after using it and put it back in when i wanted to go out. I just bought a battery switch so i can turn the switch off when im done and on when im ready to go. If you cant find the problem this is a simple fix.
  20. has the carb been cleaned. On my big motor the same thing happend where it would run with the choke pushed in and sputter out when the choke was dissengaged. I was told when I bought my 8 hp kicker (new) to unhook the fuel hose and let it run itself out of gas so there was no gas in the carb or it could gum it up.
  21. Thanks jet boat bill for the tip. I liked how the rosewood handle looked but was leaning toward the black plastic handle because it was 20 bucks cheaper and supposedly being the same knife. [ Post made via Android ]
  22. that forschner cimeter 12" is the exact knife i was looking at and found it for 39 dollars with the black plastic handle or 59 for the rosewood handle at cutleryandmore.com . I have a chef mate sharpener with the diamond honing stone or whatever it is called. The man that showed me his knife said he used a warthog sharpener on his blade I was thinking about picking one up, have you guys had good luck with a certain sharpener, id like to take care of this knife and make it last. Is there is any place that sells them forschner knifes locally in the buffalo niagara falls area id like to pick it up in person, one of them things i want it now.
  23. What kind of knife are you guys using to clean/fillet salmon? I am looking at some victorinox or forschner...i think they are the same brand. but found one with a 12 inch blade that I am thinking about getting but before I go out and buy a POS knife and have to go buy another id rather do it once and be done. Im using a small buck knife now and hack up everything but the little guys.
  24. Good job. You did better than most people I talked to. We didn't go out quite that far we stopp at 350 and turned back around every fish we marked was 100 plus foot down and didn't want to eat. We got a bunch of smaller kings and the biggest being 16lb [ Post made via Android ]
  25. I use daiwa heartlands okuma blue diamond and eagle claw starfire rods. [ Post made via Android ]
