  1. Ok!! Thanks! I have had a post or 2 or 10 removed in the past as well. I thought maybe there was another forum that they removed them to -- like -- Crazy posts from ticked of members
  2. Landshark, Ok it is a whitefish ...... your word is good enough for me.... BUT, What are those ugly black fish on that board?? Never saw a salmon or trout like that!
  3. I found the information there to be rather interesting. Just wondering what happened to the post, I have fished Scotty tournys in the past and found the info to be valuable to future considerations.
  4. I guess it is a good idea to read the article before commenting. The article says the fish will be sterile, and only female, and that the GH is from the Chinook and the species being manipulated is "like" the Atlantic. I guess we already have the fish in our lake that has the 24/7 growth hormone ................. we call it a King! Hope this helps. I am trying to figure out which is larger a nucleic acid or an amino acid .... reason would tell me that the NA is bigger, but I suppose it does not have to be the case. I figured I would ask here because this is relevant to this post
  5. Brian, Transgenic organisms typically do not reproduce. The only thing that would happen if a bucket of these fish were dumped in the lake is half a dozen on big fish on the LOC spring/fall leader board.
  6. Great Year! You only missed a beautiful day on Sunday -- you did not miss any catching
  7. You did well to catch any fish on Sunday. It was a very slow day out there. We had a good first hour then went 7 hours straight with out a fish or hit -- longest dry spell of a very long busy season!! You will have to admit that they were about the best 2 days a guy could spend on the water. Comfortable temps, nice water and no intruptions of nap time!!
  8. Tom, You asked the right question. No farmer wants to feed twice as much for the same amount of time -- therefore I am sure that the fish will be raised to a larger size in a shorter time span. As to them ever being in LO: Transgenic organisms should not be confused with their natural dna donors. You will never see this type of organism in the wild.
  9. Eric, Great report! Way to finish up with a bang. Thanks for your help out there this season, enjoy your winter. See you in Wilson!! Thanks for the pics of the lures -- very helpful!!
  10. Go to the mouth of any of these streams: Genesee, Oak Orchard, Sandy Creek Tie on #4 glow ghost J-plug and a #4 silver bullet/red head J-plug and troll back and forth between and around the jettys and breakwalls where the flow of the stream hits the lake. Start in the dark at 6am and fish until they quit biting. Good luck!!
  11. OK, I have been down the same road as you. I replaced my Big jons last year with Scotty's. I now have close to 80 trips on the Scottys. Here is what I can tell you: They are dependable for going up and down. Some of my riggers drop to quickly and have no middle ground, I understand that there is an adjustment for this, but I do not have the time to fingure it our. #2 == I have gone thru 3 counters on my 5 riggers -- this is not good the counters are junk, make sure you have spares. Other than that I love them they are very user friendly and I believe they are the best rigger on the market to day. I am interested in checking the new ones that Yankee refered to , I may have to upgrade.
  12. No musky -- I just sawed the nobama's press conference and he said it was Bush's fault!! Can't we all just get along, maybe we should get together after seasons and everyone can bring a crayon to burn!!
  13. Troutman, Wow you are good, I appreciate your ability to decipher that paragraph, and perhaps it is the style of my writing that has led me to be "self censored". The irony, I can explain as I incorrectly wrote that sentence I should have said that my clients find the derby to be too expensive. To further explain -- Each man in a four man out of state crew, fishing two day will typically spend the following: $30 for a license, $300 for the charter, $100 for the motel, $75 in meals, $40 travel expenses and $50 for tipping the mate and capt. That is a total of $595 per guy; now ask him to spend $25 for the derby and where in the above budget will it come from? Yankee, As to why I “hide†behind my computer: I don’t hide behind my computer to say things that I would not have said otherwise, in fact I have been on this board since the beginning and on Lakeontario website before that and I have always boldly expressed my opinions. My opinions and views have been censored and removed from this site in the past. Not because they were obscene or mean spirited, but because some did not agree with them. Can you believe I once said that piece of fishing equipment was junk -- explaining why from my experience -- and because most guys use that brand someone got mad at me and removed my post? Why am I still here, you ask? Well ..... mostly so I can read your Oak Reports as I highly respect your honest, thorough reports, much like mine used to be. I think I comment on stuff mostly because I can't help myself (it might be a Forest Gump thing)-- I'll try to suppress my urges in the future. AS TO THE LOC: Contests are not my thing, neither is gambling, I may just be too cheap, I may be selfish, greedy or just appreciate the effort that I put into making a dollar so much that I am parsimonious --- most likely it is all the above!! I do not believe that there is any morality attached to promoting the derby so I will not concede that there is any right or wrong in promoting or not promoting the event. Promoting the LOC and promoting Lake Ontario fishing are not the same! To say that I do not promote LO fishing because I do not promote the LOC would be incorrect (not that you said that). Could I say that the LOC does not promote LO fishing because the LOC does not encourage all its clients to fish with my charter service? Why that would be absurd. I would be open to the LOC advertising on my website, if they decided to spend the long dollar and run a banner add, why that would be just fine with me and my clients would all be aware of the derby and they could join. You must understand that I run a business and bottom line is I need to earn a profit, when engaged in that business everything I do is done to that end and from my experience – since fishing the 1981 ESLO – I have not found it to be profitable to my business to promote the derby. I must state before you consider me a selfish SOB that there are a dozen or more business in Orleans County that consider my business and my clients to be profitable to them and not a single one of these proprietors would say that I do not promote Lake Ontario or it’s resources. You see Capt. our perspectives are different, not right or wrong just different. We are a diverse group -- embrace it!
  14. Congrats Tom, Foster, Brian and all the other winners this year. This derby is what it is!! A winner take all contest for private fishermen. It gives many guys a reason to be out there fishing instead of staying home and commenting about fishing on the computer. You can tell the wife: "I bought this $25 derby ticket I might as take a weeks vacation and win 20G's, you don't want to come and do the cooking do you?" (That's asking for permission and and invite all in one, your butt is covered and of course she stays home which is what you really wanted) From the Charter Captain perspective: Many charters do not fish the derby -- it is too expensive and few clients schedule a trip to fish the derby, rather they fish the derby because that is when their trip is scheduled. Making this a real show case for amature fishermen -- and that is a good thing!! Yet those clients that do, only fish it because of the attraction of the BIG prize. So maybe that is why it is structured that way. Now, I may be all wrong and it may actually be that charter clients are the bulk of derby entries, if that is the case than LOC should keep the big prize. BUT, if it is in fact mostly a private boat event than the larger prizes in the divisions may be a good idea. The reasons stated by all of you are valid. I am going to be like the "Drive-by media" and just comment, but not vote, because for the most part, I don't care what they do with the LOC, I don't get the opportunity to fish it because I am running charters those week and do not encourage my clients to enter. IF I was fishing myself with my family and friends I would fish it for the exact same reasons many of you do and would like the larger prizes.
  15. Being the kind of guy that always looks for the silver lining in the storm cloud, I thought I would point out that the weather is great for all our LOU brothers that have fish on the board!!!! Congrats!!! Sucks for the rest of us!!
  16. It would be legal in the pro-am -- search the threads from June you should find a disscussion on this topic
  17. I have taken trophy browns on the following spoons: Black & Silver f-5 evil eye Pink & Purple f-5 Evil eye It is not a spoon, but the largest Brown I have boated -- #5 Glow black ladder J plug -- lead core Little browns >15# eat any stinger or SS and they love gold when fished between 50 - 65' down. Favorites this year -- stinger brown trout and SS green goby
  18. WOW and it is only 8/2 AM That's alot of kings in one day!!! You must have learned from the master!!!
  19. R-rat, I am glad you got my point -- you just can't do in a couple of weekends that which takes years of study or experience to aquire. Keep at it -- some day you will make a fine finger lake captain, and with 7 years of study in biochem you will know that you are not a bufoon!!! Capt. Spike, It is the exact opposite here on LO. Capt. Todd, You the man, Im in envy -- hope you get the long cruise/sail!
  20. Learn to use Morse Code, use your radio and horn esp. if it is hooked up to your GPS, use your lights in the dark Don't fish alone -- fishing alone has its risk for anyone, being hearing/speach impaired heightens this risk.
  21. Are fish and windmills in Lake Ontario the most important issue facing our State? Do they even break into the top 10, 50 or 100 issues? With our freedoms, families and values under attack in this State we should all practice due dilligence in choosing our leaders. That said, the information you have provided is well recieved and adds to my consideration of Carl. Thank you Vince
  22. may be -- especially if that is where you are fishing!!
  23. With 28 of the 81 places coming from Niagara County could this be the place to fish both the spring and fall LOC?
  24. Nice fish! Where's the youth? That looked like a full growed woman holding that giant fish!!! Congrats! Great Picture -- Send it in to GLA!! Let the MI boys catch a gander at that HOG LO/NY salmon
