  1. Hey - have you tried Jigging for Lake trout and browns? It’s a lot of fun because it’s just you and the fish with no gear or boat in the middle of the fight. I assume you have a decent fish finder and with it, you can find the fish on the bottom or suspended in the lake. Happy to share some spots with you to start on Cayuga but I haven’t done much Jigging on Seneca. My advice is to start here (link below) - lots of info on How to Jig for lake trout and if you want advice on gear to use, let me know. https://web.archive.org/web/20181005045019/http://cayugafisher.net/pages/resdex.php I use a Field and Stream Tech Spec rod with a torrent bait caster reel. My mainline is 20lb PowerPro braid and a 10 foot long 10-12lb fluorocarbon leader tied on with a UNI to Uni knot. I recently learned some people use an FG knot though so I’m gonna try that soon. I use Berkeley Vanish Fluorocarbon but you can choose your favorite brand. You’ll want to use braid as a mainline so you can feel the fish and not the stretch jigging in 100 FOW. You can start with a 1oz Jighead with a good hook and some flukes. I put a picture of what a good hook looks like vs a bad hook after catching fish on both. I use Zoom flukes - white and white Ice are always a good bet to start with - pic below. Chartreuse works to some days and any colors you troll with can be good. Lunker City - Shakers and Swimfish are good too sometimes. Feel free to ask any questions or DM me, happy to help. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  3. Here's some more details for those interested - https://www.lansingstar.com/news-page/16457-mine-conducting-seismic-testing-in-lake?fbclid=IwAR2BhEDi9dkIbRuoImzmk5ygEbJpvpyUPUwPKpGHuJMlHWGM5-1cW87rUAE
  4. Here’s a 8 second video of the vessel in 4K for anyone interested. Recorded about half a mile south of Longpoint. I wanted to capture how loud the boom was when the thing behind the boat made it. It was much louder than the phone recorded it. I see the manned dingy turn away a pleasure boat that was about to run over the cable, then 10 minutes later I saw a bass boat go right between the buoys at full speed, didn’t seem affected so I assume he didn’t hit the cable but it seemed very unsafe to me. 5. Also went jigging yesterday morning - launched at longpoint and fished from 6:15 am till 9:30 am - ended up with 10 lakers between two of us - 90fow. All fish came in front of college. Biggest was 29.5 inches. I’ll post more pics when I get to a better service area. Note - depth is wrong on the FF because it was detecting bait as bottom. 6. I’ll X (don’t know what number we’re up to) Longpoint state park and deans cove, if you launch at Longpoint then the college is a 15 minute paddle north and some of the best laker jigging on the lake (caught 6 there jigging last weekend). Deans Cove is also great and after fishing the college we motored over there directly in front of deans in 50-75fow and caught 2 more after 11am. Sheldrake point is also great although I haven’t been there yet this year (maybe this weekend). All great laker jigging locations. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I went out of Longpoint today and there is some debris floating but overall it was good. Caught 8 lakers jigging between 3 of us. There were people trolling as well. Water was clear as day in most spots. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Am I reading it right? It says that my 16.5 foot aluminum deep V with an outboard motor and “open construction” does not require a fire extinguisher on Cayuga? https://parks.ny.gov/recreation/boating/documents/NYSBoatersGuide.pdf - page 24 “Fire Extinguishers All mechanically propelled vessels, except outboards less than 26 feet in length and of open construction, must carry one B-I US Coast Guard approved fire extinguisher. Mechanically propelled vessels 26 feet to less than 40 feet in length must carry two B-I US Coast Guard approved fire extin- guishers. Mechanically propelled vessels 40 feet to less than 65 feet in length must carry three B-I US Coast Guard approved fire extinguishers. Vessels 65 feet and greater in length should consult federal regulations. On any vessel, one B-II extinguisher may substitute for two B-I extinguishers. Vessels equipped with approved fixed extinguishing systems may carry one less B-I extinguisher. Beyond the previously mentioned requirements fire extinguishers are also required whenever: a vessel is equipped with an inboard engine, where there are enclosed or permanently mounted fuel tanks on board, when there are enclosed living spaces, or there are closed stowage compartments in which combustible or flammable materials are stored. The most common types of fire extinguishers are dry chemical and carbon dioxide. Dry chemical extinguishers are for use on fires caused by flammable liquids such as fuel or grease (class B fires) and electrical fires (class C). Carbon dioxide is good on combustible solids (class A fires) such as paper or wood as well as class B and C fires. All of these” Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  10. I have always had good experiences at Moore's Outboard Center (in Trumansburg) and Cooks in Lansing.
  11. I for one as a younger folk have benefited greatly from Sk8mans information and experience over the years on this forum. I very much enjoy how detailed your posts are (long or not) and they always contain all the information I need to get started trying something new. I very much appreciate you giving back to the community in this way and hope to teach all I have learned to my new son born May 1st 2019. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  14. Water was clear as day today after the storm that hit around 4:00pm. I’ll be out there tomorrow morning early as well. -Pete Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. I’m at a cottage this week about half a mile from longpoint. Went out an hour ago up to aurora. I didn’t run into any debris near longpoint. There was a ton yesterday but it’s all cleared out now. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. If your talking about the place over by the hospital, I have always had a great experience with them. Sometimes they get a little behind there estimates but it’s obviously there busy season right now. It’s also been my experience that going there and checking in (nicely) is helpful to achieving progress. They have always charged me exactly what was quoted or less. Been using em 8 years now. 17. Went out of Longpoint yesterday to Aurora. Jigging was rough, tried anything from 60FOW to 150FOW. Hit the water around 7:30 and first fish didn’t come till 12:00. Ended up with two total for the day and went back around 2:30pm. Fish were very suspended and scattered. Finding a laker on the bottom was uncommon and they wanted nothing to with the Jigs we were throwing at them. Both fish came at 120FOW yesterday. Biggest was 27.5”. -Pete Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Usually it’s decently busy but I launch my boat there almost every weekend and have yet to not find a place to park my truck and trailer after launching. There’s quite a bit of room for a small park and they don’t really enforce the don’t park on the grass sign if the designated spots are full. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. Hey Sean, If all else fails and you don't end up with any in time, please shoot me a PM. I live a few miles from Myers and I am happy to meet you with some Jig Heads. You can also text or call me at 607-301-0602. Ill be around and most likely on the lake. -Pete
  20. We launched at Myers Park and went up to the Power Plant area. All fish were caught up there.
  21. Launched at Myers around 5AM and headed north to the power plant. A few pics below. Lake was perfectly calm today and the fishing was great. 11 Fish landed by 10:00AM when we packed up and went to work. Fish were shallower than on the weekend. Best fishing was between 40-60 FOW. I don't normally look that shallow but the screen was blank anywhere above 60 FOW. Biggest fish was 28" and came in 45 FOW. I am happy to report I have seen no lampreys at all on Lakers this year, I have even seen Lakers with no lamprey wounds at all. Whatever has occurred that caused them to be gone, it is working from what I see. I also got the FF dialed in a bit more and figured out what was causing all that noise. Very happy with the way it performed today. All fish released successfully. Screen seems almost impossible to keep clean with fish spraying slime everywhere when we land em but Ill get a cloth for it at some point.
  22. I do not believe the shop at Myers sells licenses.
  23. It was a great weekend for Jigging despite the rain. Launched from Myers and headed to the power plant on Saturday 6am -10:30am and ended up with 8 Lakers total. Biggest was 28”. No pics from Saturday. Launched from Myers again Sunday (again in the rain) at 7am and headed to the same place. Biggest laker was 29” and we boated 10 total. We got rained off the water around 12:00pm when the storm really hit hard. Pics below or two biggest. Biggest was second pic above at 29”. He also bent the hook pretty good. All fish came between 50 and 95 FOW both days. Some pics of the bait we found and the new FF. I can tell you mega imaging is great! First weekend out with the new FF and I don’t regret a penny. New FF still needs some tuning to get rid of noise but it worked well enough out of the box. All lakers returned unharmed to fight another day. -Pete Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. I have had some terrible luck with fillet knife's, possibly because I have been to cheap thus far to pay for a good one. Seems like the handle always comes off or the blade breaks, ect... I'm ready to spend whatever it takes to get a decent knife. Looking for recommendations. I'd like a knife I can trust for 5+ years ideally. -Pete
