  3. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Outta Line ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-21 Time on Water: 7am til noon Weather/Temp: 70's, sunny Wind Speed/Direction: SW 5+/- Waves: chop to 1ft Surface Temp: 64-74 Location: North of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 4 Species Breakdown: all lakers Hot Lure: gr/wh nuclear SD and green hammer fly Trolling Speed: 1.8-3.2 Down Speed: HEAVEN KNOWS Boat Depth: 120-210 Lure Depth: 60, 75, 90 on the riggers, 275 std dipsy, 200 mag diver, 150 small dispy ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS I will try and keep it short. Took my buddy Steve out for his first time downrigging and was hoping that the fish were gonna turn back on after this last week. We got out and set the first line just about 7 and by the time I had 4 lines in the water, the deep rigger at 90' with a small protroll flasher and pearl blue fly takes a hit and we get Steve his first ever laker....about 8lbs and I smile and say "Good Job" as I secretly try and rush to get that fish back in the water before it craps my boat. I get all 6 lines in.....275 diver with nuclear SD/green fly takes the rip...and another laker 4lbs or so. 15 minutes later....Mag diver 200' back, with white pearl glow SD and blue hammer fires and we boat another 7 lb laker or so. Okay.....its gonna be one of THOSE days. Still its only 8pm and 3 for 3, so i am happy. And then finally......275 diver starts thumping and screaming.....Oh yeah, i turn to Steve and yell...."Finally, king on!!!!!!" I back the drag off, grab the rod to hand to Steve and promptly scream ^#^%&%$....as the king is bye bye! Well there was 30 seconds of excitement. The next 2.5hours were DEAD. No lakers, No takers, No sea flees....nothing. Trolled out to 210 feet and decided against heading too much further....alot of other boats working inside water. Went back into 120 feet and finally got another hit in 125fow on the same 275' wire. Lost it. Made a pass back over that water....and same diver took another rip and was running line pretty good. Took my buddy Steve to about 375 feet and made a couple of very nice runs. I figured it was a small king. WRONG.....was actually a 6-7lb laker, but had more spunk then I normally see out of laker. We called it a day, need to get other stuff done....Looking at alot of the posts, I will consider 4 fish a blessing. Currents were all over the place. Dont have a subtroll or anything...but I noticed some kind of different current between 55' and 70', as my rigger when it was high was at a normal angle, pulling as if there was no current, then I dropped that one to 70' and it went back behind the boat as if the current was now shearing right to left (in the direction I was headed). Top waves and currents were in opposite directions, lines down deep were all over the place. Tangled a small top line dipsy set 150 foot back on my portside, into the 275' std dipsy on my starboard side and have no idea how!?!?!?!? Anyways, so much for the short report. i slept in today. Hope everyone fishing today does well. Congrats to all of those in the Sodus Pro Am. Jason ====================
  4. I did....but my issue was heading more south west back towards shore. Current on top was pushing east to west and down currents had to be going the other way, because I swear my downriggers were almost out of the water! I had my port side high diver (the small ones) set back 150 foot, to try and keep the top water covered and at one point, it got tangled in my starboard standard dispy set back 275'. Holy crap, it was crazy at times!!

  7. That must have been a serious Freudian slip or too much I corrected it WOW....thats all I can say.
  8. Well, I still rather be out there, then here in my office. I am rocking in my chair as I type! Be safe!
  9. Awesome! I was wondering what exactly happened, as Nick on Ruff Rider had posted something about you guys having a 30lber +/- and were heading in to way it. I was looking for it! That is a major king, even if it just missed the leaderboard! Congrats man!!!!! Jason
  10. had that happen to me recently and it almost scares the pole out of our hands! Amazing these all happened within days of each other. What lottery numbers did you play???????????
  11. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Outta Line ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-15 Time on Water: 6:45 - 9:45 Weather/Temp: warm, overcast waiting for the rain Wind Speed/Direction: SW...calm to 10 Waves: calm to chop, less than 1 Surface Temp: 74 Location: North of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: 3 lakers, 2 kings Hot Lure: white/pearl glow SD and blue fly Trolling Speed: 2.3-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 140-150fow Lure Depth: 70'rigger, 250' standard dipsy and 200' mag diver ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Decided to try and get a couple early hours of trolling in before the rain set in. Set lines in 100fow, two divers and a rigger. As soon as i got to 150fow, mag diver pulling a white/pearl glow SD and blue fly, starts to rip.....feels like a nice laker, but will never know....GONE. Reset diver.....Rigger set at 70' with a yellow NBK and pro-e flasher starts to go......have it on a few minutes....feels like another laker.....GONE. Okay, WTH.....light bites?? I decide to run a couple tenths faster on the troll and on the same east/west line of 150, BAM......diver goes ripping again and finally land a fish! A decent 8lb laker....and i figured I was gonna be in for a laker bite all morning. But turned boat around and headed right for the three way points I just got fish in..... and get to the first way point. Mag diver starts ripping again, but feels like another laker.....BUT FOOLED.....turned out to be a very, non-aggressive 8lb king. Shook his head like a laker and never really ran like a king does....but still it was a king. PHEW Lines re-set....staying on the same east/west line running in this 150 fow of water in a stamp half mile long and ZZZZZZZZZ....the other diver set back 250 foot pulling a green nuclear SD and green fly starts RIPPING line.....Out to 350 like that. I try putting on some drag, but he runs again out to 400 foot. So i figure a real nice king and I am not going to horse him too much. I get him back into about 370' and he says....lets go for another run....out to 425' and I am worried I have a really LARGE king and how the heck I am going to net him by myself! LOL Well 30 minutes later a very nice and healthy 15 lb king hits the back of the boat. He fought twice as hard as the 23lb'r the other night. Ya' just never know! Still, dont matter to me.....I love fighting Kings! Well he is back in the lake to give someone else a smile! Managed 2 more lakers off the same mag diver, which took 5 of the 7 hits this morning. I am loving that set up.....blue fly on a base white SD has been my bread and butter this summer, althought the green nuclear SD and green fly is a close second. I pulled lines at 9:45 as the winds changed and you knew the rain was just about here. Rain got me at the docks, but not bad. What a good way to end the weekend! Tight Lines!!! ====================
  12. The end to another weekend. I fished 6:45 to 9:45 and went 5 for 7....but fish were really packed into 140-150 fow....in a stamp of water about a qtr - half mile square. totally unreal every pass had a hit.....get outside the way points....and nothing....turn back around......bam! Weather chased me off a little early, but sounds like the bite died anyways!
  13. Nice fish Chris!!!! and so close on that last spot!!! Maybe if it didn't lose 2 oz fighting the copper!:~
  14. Awesome job Tom!!!! Really a very good trip. It can be so hard at times to salmon fish and that is a GREAT first outting. Especially with newbies. Hard to pilot and set lines and tell them how to "play" a big fish, while you clear lines or keep the fish out of them! Good report and hopefully they are still in shallow. Should be out this afternoon with the better half to try and find some action!!!!! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  15. Awesome report and great job on those kings. I am amazed too how far they have come in. Worked 120 out to 200 fow thursday evening and best marks were 140fow and now there even closer. All I can say is wowser! Good to know, especially for those of us without the down temp yet! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  16. nice report....and it seemed it didnt change too much for the evening. I keep hearing around here that flies are catching much more than spoons and meat rigs. Hence why I ran a fly on the rigger, which I rarely do....always left flies on divers and spoons on the riggers. But I am learning to change up! :) Still having a great time with whatever bites....even those slimy chickens!!! hahahaha
  17. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Outta Line ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-11 pm Time on Water: 4-8pm Weather/Temp: sunny 80's Wind Speed/Direction: light out of N/NNE Waves: chop <1 Surface Temp: 74 Location: northwest of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated: 7 Species Breakdown: 3 kings, 3 lakers, 1 steelie Hot Lure: white/green nuclear SD/green fly and green pro-e chip and blue fly Trolling Speed: 2.3-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 140-150foot Lure Depth: riggers 55'&80', mag diver 200' and diver 250' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Started out in 130fow and put a 42sec spoon down 55' and before I could set the other rigger, BAM....my daughter has a small steelie on. Well that might have taken 45 seconds for that lure to get a hit, but close enough. I get both riggers set and both dipsy's and BAM......the diver pulling the nuclear SD and green hammer gets crushed and I hand the pole to my mom and what I thought was a mid teen king....turns out 30 mins later to be a 13lb laker!! Very happy mom.....and for a minute I thought we might have had a derby fish and she was not entered. It looked 15-17lbs about 50 foot behind the boat.....fat little fish! And about 10 minutes after that the deep rigger goes, pulling a green pro-e chip and blue hammer fly and my son lands a 10lb laker......so 3 fish in less than an hour and now i am up!!!!! Mag diver goes and I am up.....and for about 30 seconds I have a fish on. Then nothing......get the diver back to the boat and all that is behind it is the snubber. Leader, SD and fly are all gone. NO swivel.....so did the swivel snap? Open up? or did i forget to latch it!?!?!?!?! UGH......hardware gone! By this time we were making a NW troll and were out to 170 fow and I kept venturing out to 200fow. Screen was basically blank and we took no more hits. So I spun around and trolled back. As soon as I hit 146fow again we were back on the fish. The 80' rigger explodes and lines ripping....on the same green pro-e and blue fly......fish tears out maybe 250 foot of line...feels decent, but I was shocked when it got to the back of the boat in about 10-15 minutes and its a 23lb king. Great fish, but unlike so many of the other kings recently...this fish gave up much sooner. We lost one more hit and my daughter and son both landed a pair of 10-12lb kings, and I got one more small laker, that never released the rigger line, but I saw that tap tap going and went......there is something on. It was a great afternoon to be on the water and watch my mom battle her largest trout to date. ALL in ALL....continues to be great action. Would have boated more if we stayed in the narrow band of 135-150fow.....outside of that, I think we had one hit! back at it tomorrow! ====================
