  1. That is the case as of now, they took a road trip down the nort shore road this morning as said you could see it from there, also with a southwest blow it will stay in the bay
  2. Yes, my uncles are at camp now, water is up but they will have boat in later today and will call me with the on the seen at the seen report, I will post later today. Stay tuned PAP.
  3. I was uncertain about mentioning that, I had a 140hp I/o that was reapared that way, I used the motor for 3 years, then sold the boat. I told the new buyer that the block was repared and he told me he had one that was repared also, it didn't seem to bother him any. The block was froze and pushed out above the oil pan and a machine shop reared the block, and he told me I wasn't the first one he did this type of repare to. I pulled the motor out and he did a low pressure leak down test and it passed, so I put the motor back together and used it for 3 years like that. I will say that the first year it developed a small drip in the patch but it sealed up till the end of the season, it was a little nerve racking at first.
  4. My brother in law and I tried the F brand shells with the 660 choke tube out of our Bennillie's and we were impressed at 40 yards, a great load for long distances but at lesser yardage it will be a challenge. Those shells really kick out of our auto loaders, I can't imagine shooting them out of a single pipe, LOL.
  5. Man Yankee, those are some huge lakers, I would have loved to reel some of those big girls in, thanks for sharing. Pap.
  6. Hey JT how about some pics. When complete, just to satisfy my curiosity till we meet at Otico, sounds really sweet.
  7. Really nice report Legacy, it's always appreciated when a knowledgeable person gives a report with all the details, what kind of lures, what color, and how they were presented so us less knowledgeable guys have an idea how everything works. Thanks PAP.
  8. Real nice walleye, at least we know they are on the feed!! nice kicker, I have the same one, they really work nice.
  9. Nice going, glad to hear everything went well, and the added bonus, browns all over!!, have to wait till the 10th for our first trip.
  10. Nice going, good to hear, have to wait till the 10th of May for our first trip.
  11. Thanks for the heads up guys, I was thinking around $4.50 a gallon or so. Yea, Hooked Up, I couldn't make out the gallon amount on my tank plate, but I know it's triple digits, either 100 or 120 gallons, Sea Ray always did go over board on things like that, but back in 1982 it didn't brake the bank to gas er up with high test either
  12. What is it a gallon? Will be headed to the camp on the 10th of May, Thanks, PAP.
  13. When you go to run the motor, run it for a good 1/2 half hour to 3/4 hour, when I bought mine we only ran it for about 20 minutes, not long enough for the temp to go off the end of the gauge, like it did when we lake tested it, of course by then I paid the guy and he was out of the picture. $1800.00 later it doesn't run hot anymore. Long story short the boat sat in a barn for many years with no anti-freeze in the block and the motor rusted from the inside out, looked like brand new outside, but the looks were deceiving, the old fella was a preacher by trade and the hardest man I ever had to deal with. If the boat sat for many years without anti-freeze in it if it isn't a closed water system, I wouldn't buy it without a lake run test, just my inexperience, with boat motors cost me dearly!! (Thinking I knew)
  14. Thanks Fleettracker, I was using second hand info and didn't want to over speak what I was told but that nails what I was told, Oscar said the water was half way up the door on the bait shop, and a major ice storm brought many limbs and branches down in the camp, and it's supposedly a complete mess. About 10 years ago we had similar weather and we had the best walleye fishing in years the second week in June, as fast as I could bait my wife's crawler harnesses up and keep the boat strait in the wind she had another walleye on, one nice fish after another, slowly make our way out to the last set of bouys and drift down the green side then the red side, after about 2 to 3hrs. we had a 2 person limit of 22-26" males, all the Big girls released to the lake for another season of eggs. Yea post your adventure, especially if your going in a tin can down the rapids around the islands, gets pretty squirrely down at the mouth, by the snake pit off to your right. PAP.
  15. Yes, the counter is driven by the spool gear, that's why it is important to calibrate your reels. First thing I always do, is I always over spool my reels a little, then to calibrate the reel to a 100ft. What I do is drive a stake in the ground and measure out a 100ft using a contractors tape and mark my 100ft, then I go and hook my line on the stake, and walk back to my 100ft mark, and see what my reel reads, by over spooling the reel a little, I will have to remove line from the reel for it to read 100ft, if the reel reads more than 100ft you will need to add line, so don't cut the line from the filler spool until your reel is calibrated to read 100ft on the counter and be at your measured 100ft mark. I like to pull line off my reels till it reads 100ft on the counter and the tip of the rod is on my 100ft measured mark, usually this is a 2 step ordeal, then I put the extra line back on the filler spool, then I reel the line back on the reel keeping the line tight back to my stake, then I walk back to my 100ft measured mark and usually I have 100ft of line out off my reel and I should be at my 100ft measured mark at the tip of my pole, now that reel is calibrated to measure 100ft of line out, I'm usually pretty sweaty till I'm done, but I know all my reels are measuring the same 100ft of line out on all of my reels. I'm sure there is a easier way but this is how the PA. Dutch do it. hope this helps you. PAP.
  16. As of last week the water level in the river is about 10ft above normal, water is almost up to the door on the BJ bait shop in Dexter, and a fellow next to our camper in the Black River Camp grounds talked to Allen who owns the camp and he said "maybe" not going to be able to open the camp on time, right now 3 of us are playing it by ear. Even if they open on time and the river is that high the walleye fishing won't be any good for a while yet.
  17. I didn't mean I'm counting the spool rev. I meant to say, when the #1 on the counter comes up I have just shy of 5ft of line out. On iboat there was a topic about these reels and one fellow said he had one of these reels, and some measured in yards and some read in meters, and this reel measures 5ft when the counter reads 1,10ft of line out when the counter reads 2 and so on and it's accurate all the way, we went out to 80ft, and it was right on the money, we thought if it was messed up it would start to become inaccurate after awhile. Thanks for taking a interest on this odd but interesting reel. PAP.
  18. Glad to read the hammer worked flawlessly, and the added bonus, good fishing!! haven't got in the water yet, been busy rigging the boat, I think the middle of this week should be our fist trip on the water with our new gear if everything works as planned should be headed north towards the end of the month. PAP. ps. now that the price of fuel jumped .10cents overnight it would be a good time to fuel up the tanks and head north, might be over a $150.00 just to get the old girl up there and then another 60 gallons to fill the boat, so about $400.00 just to get on LakeO.
  19. I called Henchens Marina Monday and the guy said the ice was all gone clear sailing, talked to Oscar who is the Black River Bay campgrounds and he said he talked to Allen and the camp is a mess and doesn't know if they will be able to open on time this year, also the water level is really high almost up to the BJ Bait Shop door. I didn't get a notice in the mail about not opening, so I guess play it by ear.
  20. It looks like there are some impressive walleyes in the lake, 30"s is a stout walleye for sure, thanks for sharing. I wish I lived closer to your lakes to witness these activities in person, you guys are truly lucky to be in such an area.
  21. My uncle came over yesterday and we measured the line, and it measures just shy of 5ft, so I'll just have to remember to go 5ft increments when letting line out, that's easier than counting by 3's, not the end of the world, but definitely different, the reels are really smooth and nice drags and they can handle a lot of line, after a hundred yards of 25# Berkley big game I was able to get 280 yards of power pro 30# on. I use a Berkley line counter to see the footage of backer line on or I use it to put 300 yards of power pro on then fill the spool and then transfer to the same make reel then I watch to see how many feet of backer it took then I know how much backer to put on the next reel of the same make, make it easier with the Berkley line counter until it's off to the next kind of reels. I have the same 4 reels for my rigger rods and 4 of the same reels for my trolling rods and a mix bag of reels for my lead cores and a mix bag of reels for my wire, and other rods, I have a total of 13 that I acquired over the years most are older reels I rebuilt with upgraded drags in most.
  22. This winter my uncle did a remodel job for this elderly lady and he had to go into the garage to shut off the power and he saw a pile of line counter reels and trolling rods he asked the lady what she was going to do with the fishing stuff and she told Dave if you know someone who could use it, you can have it, so he brought them along and gave it to me, it was the best birthday gift I got in a long time, anyway there was 2 Mitchell RipTide 70CD, so I stripped the old line off and was putting new line on when I noticed that the line counter wasn't reading in feet and was to far along with the process to quit, so I pulled a section of line out and measured it, it measured a little over 3ft, OOH well, so I did some research on this reel and found out, on Iboat that some of these reel measure in yards, and some in meters, the one's I got measure in meters, YAA' it's close enough to a yard so I just have to remember that when letting line out, did anyone else hear or see one of these reels? PAP
  23. (Stripers) DEC. stocked them in our local lake "Beltzville Lake" to take care of the Alewives, they first tried the musky deal but that didn't work so they stocked the stripers, now people come from all over to fish for the stripers, it generated a lot of revenue for the area, and they are doing a good job on the Alewives, and the walleye fishing is picking up for a few of us, while others still struggle, the biggest striper out of Beltzville was 25#-40" not bad for a lake that's 7 miles long and 3/4 miles wide. The best way I found to catch them is I run a flasher 15ft above a live bait rig rigged with a Alewive and the other rigger I fish higher, you should see the EYES I get when you put a LakeO' rigged boat on the Beltzville lake.
