  1. I am lucky enough to have private land to hunt but I hunt state land a lot during bow season. There are thousands of untouched acres of great hunting land. Get on SLIM (state land interactive map)... find oak groves, you will be in deer. If you need a few good spots pm me. I spend a lot of time scouting, what area/county were you in? 4. That is what I'm talking about! Great video and proof of the reduction of penetration that comes from expandables. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Very sorry to hear of your loss. As a father I cannot imagine what you are going through. I'm sure he was a great man. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. The advice you are getting is fantastic! Especially gillt's info...These are veteran hunters with great insight. That situation with a stream bed or steep hills with a valley makes for swirling winds, a mature bucks favorite hangout. Just an example the stream on my land has its own wind current depending on the air temp vs water temp. If the water is warmer on a calm morning the air currents rise off the water creating thermals... and vise versa... all that said wait til the rut and hunt down wind of the best doe bedding area you know. And if possible find the ramping air... Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. My best advice would be to control your own scent as much as possible. Use anti bacterial soaps and scent free sprays. More important though is to learn the wind currents as they apply to the areas you hunt. As a small example an airplane wing has air travelling faster and swirling as it goes over the wing. Hills, depressions, flats temp changes in am and sunset all have an influence on wind currents. I have wind notes for all wind directions in the area I hunt. These notes show patterns of how wind acts on my property. Thus telling me which stand sites to hunt and when not to. Funny thing, some of the best times to hunt some stands is when the wind seems right for the deer. If you find a spot that has what I call ramping air you can get away with just about anything. You can find this spot usually on a ridge that the wind is hitting and ramping over. You can tell by a wind checker, (goes up first) or look at the leaves around you pushing up the branches. Hope this helps, once you have a big buck smell you its most likely over for that spot. Good luck! Ps don't buy into cover scents, they don't work period! a deer can smell way better than we can imagine. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  15. Great advice Justin! I will admit I am a rookie eye fisherman... Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Well the max depth there was like 28' when I trolled there. I marked a few fish that could have been eyes but I did not mark any bait, not that it wasn't there... I saw other guys trolling there also, yes some locals probably have their techniques and spots but the lake is not that big. Hope they do increase the numbers. I would also add that it used to be filthy with crappie, now not so much... Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. So if my math is right you have to fish ten hours to catch one... I fished it twice this year for eyes, zero.. the water is always murky at best and there is little to no cover or contours to the lake. The fishing pressure is fairly high also. I think the lake just isn't a great ecosystem for eyes. IMO. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Congratulations! Nice buck, being mobile with the climber is deadly. Patience and great shot placement go a long away, great job! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Not necessary if your bow is tuned correctly and you are shooting the correctly spined arrows. Also spinning your arrows making sure there is no wobble is key Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Yup, give me a call ASAP. John Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Well said hookedup, exactly the situation that happened on many of the tracks that we have been on, great blood trail for up to a half mile but the deer is typically not dead. Why someone would give up penetration for a bigger hole is beyond me. The hype these companies are selling on hunting shows is just that hype! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I have been a licensed tracker for deer for 7 years now. My dog and I average about 20-30 tracks a year. My opinion of expandables is: throw them out! They fail in flight, they fail in regards to penetration when they hit any part of the front shoulder. If you want to shoot em with an expandable through the guts wait twelve hours and call me we will find em. Lol! Go with fixed blades and make sure they are super super sharp! Check em for sharpness especially going in and out of your quiver. Good luck guys hope no one has to use us but we track day or night. Pm me if you need my number. 23. Happy birthday Joe! Sounds like a perfect birthday! Fishing, cards, n maybe a few beverages. ! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Well said ifishy, I also believe that nature will balance itself out no matter what we do, even if it means removing us! In the case of the sturgeon, people reintroducing this fish into the lake ecosystem will probably stand the test of time because it fits with the balance of nature. Its all good IMO! We have eminent domain over the animal, fish kingdom as long as we are good stewards it (nature) will keep us around. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. With all the winds lately may be a cooler layer of water on the bottom..?? how was the fishing? Thinking of fishing there tomorrow or weekend.. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
