  1. Well the max depth there was like 28' when I trolled there. I marked a few fish that could have been eyes but I did not mark any bait, not that it wasn't there... I saw other guys trolling there also, yes some locals probably have their techniques and spots but the lake is not that big. Hope they do increase the numbers. I would also add that it used to be filthy with crappie, now not so much... Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. So if my math is right you have to fish ten hours to catch one... I fished it twice this year for eyes, zero.. the water is always murky at best and there is little to no cover or contours to the lake. The fishing pressure is fairly high also. I think the lake just isn't a great ecosystem for eyes. IMO. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Congratulations! Nice buck, being mobile with the climber is deadly. Patience and great shot placement go a long away, great job! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Not necessary if your bow is tuned correctly and you are shooting the correctly spined arrows. Also spinning your arrows making sure there is no wobble is key Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Yup, give me a call ASAP. John Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Well said hookedup, exactly the situation that happened on many of the tracks that we have been on, great blood trail for up to a half mile but the deer is typically not dead. Why someone would give up penetration for a bigger hole is beyond me. The hype these companies are selling on hunting shows is just that hype! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I have been a licensed tracker for deer for 7 years now. My dog and I average about 20-30 tracks a year. My opinion of expandables is: throw them out! They fail in flight, they fail in regards to penetration when they hit any part of the front shoulder. If you want to shoot em with an expandable through the guts wait twelve hours and call me we will find em. Lol! Go with fixed blades and make sure they are super super sharp! Check em for sharpness especially going in and out of your quiver. Good luck guys hope no one has to use us but we track day or night. Pm me if you need my number. 8. Happy birthday Joe! Sounds like a perfect birthday! Fishing, cards, n maybe a few beverages. ! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Well said ifishy, I also believe that nature will balance itself out no matter what we do, even if it means removing us! In the case of the sturgeon, people reintroducing this fish into the lake ecosystem will probably stand the test of time because it fits with the balance of nature. Its all good IMO! We have eminent domain over the animal, fish kingdom as long as we are good stewards it (nature) will keep us around. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  14. there is always " that guy"He is entitled to his vote but I would argue that its a bit short sighted. Qualitytime is holding a big fish in his selfie pic... looks happy too. Lol On the topic of shooting bald eagles, if it weren't our national symbol and we had gone with Ben Franklin's choice, the wild turkey, would opinions be different? hmmm, ever shoot a crow?? If we had millions of bald eagles that were taking dogs and small children, well..... that's not the case but , just saying.. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Sounds fantastic! I am assuming the bacon is pre cooked. I am a big fan of gorgonzola cheese and maybe dried pears. I now have to get some fresh straps! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Great report thanks for sharing. NY has an incredible natural resource in its fresh water. It's encouraging to see our government and private factions working on reestablishing this great fish. What's next a moose season? Dreaming there... n Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Jason, We certainly have troopers for significant others! Wife and I managed 5 Lakers and one small 11" bow. Wind was atrocious, and pretty cold with the heavy frost that morning. Noticed that the fish each had one mostly digested alewife and one fresh one in their stomachs. The bait fish were large too 5-6" long. Three fish came on custom FLTA flasher with blue/ green ITO fly, other fish came on blue green ALPHA alewife, also Flta. Maybe should have used mag lures. 19. I agree with you about them eating zebras, but when you create a healthy self sustainable population that is fishable you have a win win for the fish and everyone around the fishery. All outdoor conservation efforts depend on the value of the game and what it is worth to our state. Licenses to catch and release these fish can pay for future generations of sturgeon. The people that come to fish for them will spend $ in our local economy and hire captains to help them hook up, I certainly have catching a 200# plus dinosaur on my bucket list, that's worth a lot to me. Am I selfish? Yup...fish on baby!Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. That's interesting the 30" range could be a fish that was either stocked later or a wild spawned fish. Dunno. Lol.. either way there are different age classes out there. And they supposedly eat zebra mussels.. they are going to thrive! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. That was the worst coyote mauling I have ever seen. Must have been 15 to 20 yotes the destruction area was thirty yards in a big circle. Many many piles of coyote scat.. they even ate its face off! We see way too many deer lost to coyotes that we find tracking. I can always tell if yotes are on the track, my dog starts marking (peeing) cause she can smell them filthy animals! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Looked up some more info, sounds positive! http://m.ithaca.com/news/reintroduced-lake-sturgeon-ready-to-spawn-in-cayuga-lake/article_9981f136-a4a6-11e3-9f73-001a4bcf887a.html?mode=jqm Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Was sitting at a diner today and overheard a guy state he had caught two fish over 70 lbs in Cayuga. I had to ask him how he caught them.. well he tells me and I say you know its illegal to even try to fish for them. He says I know the fine is like $750.! now I'm not being a whistle blower, because I would like to see a controlled catch n release for these ancient creatures! Just like to hear some opinions on the subject. Out West it is a huge draw for people to fish for sturgeon. Why not here? I know trolling the lake I have marked fish much too big to be trout. So what do you think, more license sales could put more money into the fishery.. is there a big enough population for it to be a sport fish? what do ya'll think?
