  1. Rippin'Line. oh that is one of the top priorities on my list. I am lucky in that I make maple syrup and whatever $ Imake on each given year goes for boat/fishing stuff. Two items that will be purchased is the new Fish Hawk X4 and a new Depthfinder/chartplotter.
  2. yeah that I am. Using the SPRO coastlock swivels. I have 2 sizes, used the larger one in front of the dodger I think it is 60lb..I used I beleive 20 or 30 lb on the leader. I also used the 20 oe 30lb ones attached to my spoons. I think they might be a tad too big though cause my spoon action didnt seem to be ideal
  3. can you elaborate on lake levels? I didnt think that the depth of Lake O fluctuated much?
  4. yeah, He will love it..He will need to help though, he struggles just bringing in the dipsey rods haha
  5. steelfire, yeah I remember another thread where you stated that is your process. seems to be the best. Ok, just curious. Getting differing opinions and just wanted to figure it out myself
  6. I tried using a white 11" plastic flasher over the weekend. Every time that I tried it it twisted all the line up. when using these, do you have to troll slower? It seemed to look fine over the side.
  7. We arrived at Mexico launch around 10:30 am on Friday. At the launch I met Willy C! That was crazy. He actually recognized my description I guess. Headed out into what were supposed to be less than 1 foot waves to find 2-3' at least. Luckily it calmed down later in the afternoon. Headed NW and found the pack of boats and stayed to the outside. 200 FOW or so. I trolled a clean spoon on one DR and a size 0 silver green tape dodger and crinkle green fly on second DR. Cant remember the depths but changed them often. I have no down temp. One wire mag dipsey with froggy SD and green crinkle fly. One mono dipsey with SD and fly. changed out spoons often. Trolled till 6pm no strikes. never moved a rod other than changing spoons and checking lines etc. Went to Selkirk Shores for the night. Sat am we decided to head for Oswego. We pulled the Islander with the RV so breaking down camp isn't any big deal since the boat is left hooked up. Arrived at Wrights Landing 7am. Yeah I know that that is late but my other three fishing partners (Dad, brother and son) don't seem to want to get up early!..Anyways, head NE out of wrights to the pack. Trolled depths from 200 - 500 FOW with same setup as day before. Never moved a rod. Sat was pretty sunny and hot. Son was getting bored so we picked up and headed toward shore to troll for anything that would bite. Nothing doing. Headed back out to the deep water around 3pm. Same setup. Took a nice hit on the DR on the 0 silver dodger green tape and crinkle green fly.. took out line, zipped back and forth and I think must have got caught in the wiredipsey or it just broke the leader cause it went dead and my fly was gone. that was the only hit for the day. Sunday am since it was departure day for us we launched back out of Mexico PT. Headed NW out 7 miles or so. Same setup for the most part. Nice conditions and was cloudy so that was nice. Allot of chatter on Channel 68. Some of it is pretty funny and makes the time pass. 9am took a nice hit on wire mag dipsey 2 setting out 250 feet with froggy SD and an A-Tomik blue & white fly that I picked up on the way back from Oswego at the tackle shop on 104 before getting to Selkirk Shores. The king was ripping out line and I was loving it. After a 10 minute reel my brother missed the first net job and the king started to take more line. Boy was I nervous..Got the King under control if there is such a thing and the second time it was landed successfully..My brother was surprised at the weight lifting it over the gunnel. IT was all high fives! My son (age 9) had the biggest smile on his face. that was priceless! I wish that we could have found more action but being the first time I just didn't have a ton of beginners luck but I got one in the boat. My scale it weighed 23lbs. I was "happy happy happy". Trolled for a few more hours and called it quits. Hated to see it end..Already looking for another down and dirty one day trip whenever I can.
  8. Being new at this and trying to figure out a weekend I can get back to Lake O....how will the trolling be thru say mid September? Mexico and Oswego areas?
  9. One thing I didn't try was meat over the weekend, will have to start looking into that
  10. even on wire line? My dipsey directions say using 20lb mono it will reach 80 feet.. I would think using wire would be deeper?
  11. So here is a question, I know it has been discussed before. Can you honestly release the kings this time of the year, say kinds in the 20lb class? I was chatting with a guy who seems to know his stuff. He told me that after the king fights so hard and coming up into the warmer water etc they are pretty much gonna die. He stated that even if you do let it go and see it swim away, the stress of the fight builds up acids? in its body and it will soon die? Just curious to hear from someone that may know more. On Sunday while trolling in the Mexico Bay area out about 7 miles or so I saw a beautiful king, in the 20lb range floating belly up..
  12. I was told that 250' of wire out on a 1 setting would get me to 100 feet. does this sound correct? Also, do the divers come wit hthe power ring already? I used them the way they came right out of the box minus the settings
  13. CaptSpike you have a pic of that Coho?
  14. thanks mudflat!
  15. When we pike fish thru the ice we use dead ones. do Musky like that?
  16. yeah, you boys nailed it right there. AS I was trailering across the bridge into Northville (Great Sacandaga Lake) I was thinking to myself man I miss Lake O! I had a great trip. Learned allot, already trying to finagle a way to get back there in the next few weeks! My plan of coming a few times a year is gonna change I can tell you that. I am already looking into a safe place to leave the islander on the trailer for the second half of August thru second week of September next year! Already know I am getting a Fish Hawk x4 in the spring, a second wire dipsey setup and a couple doxen more flys and SD/dodgers..I fished with 3 flys and one king unfortunately still has one swimming around in its mouth
  17. good luck spike! go get em
  18. Just got back from my first Lake O of many trips to be made I hope. Hauled the 3.5 hours with the RV and boat at 7MPG. Next trip will most likely be finding someplace to bunk down for the night in the Mex-Oswego areas. Dont need anything fancy, but something clean and ability to park boat in a lot for 2 overnights. any recommedations would be appreciated
  19. I must have been fishing too deep with the rest of the pack.
  20. tat sounds just like my day today. Went out to the pack in the 300ft of water. Long story short, took a 24lb king on my 250 wire mag dipsey froggy SD and blue crinkle atomic fly. my first ever king and it didn't disappoint! Sat we hit Oswego.. Lost a fish I had on my rigger down 250..O dodger green tape creen crinkle fly..broke my leader at the second run. Fished Mexico Friday, Oswego Sat and back to Mexico today..one decent king in the boat. loved every minute of it. was my first time out and learned a ton. Forgot to mention that upon launching out of Mexico I got t omeet Willy C! Funny stuff right there, just backing the islander in the H2O and a guy comes up to me and says "are you Adk1" haha..sure am..hey there, I am Willy C!
  21. See you all on the water\! getting ready to head West! adk1 is callname on chl 68!
  22. I will be there tomorrow around 10 am..will be on channel 68..adk1 is my callname
  23. there are some pretty cool dr videos of spin doctors..I am planning on running one with the tighter loop and one with the wider loop to start out. whichever one produces, will change the other to match.
  24. that would be my plan!
  25. so my plan is to start of running spoons on the riggers at 30' and my sd/flashers at 20'. Does this sound like a good first plan?
