Throttle Control slow speed trolling - 115hp outboard - recommendations?
Prof T replied to Netbender's topic in This Old Boat
The installation is pretty "plug and play". There was an "H" type connector mounted in the wiring about behind my throttle/shift lever. 1 spot to motor, one to the shifter, one to the gauge and the 4th to the paddle switch. The remote switch had an annoyingly short lead, which I spliced to make it long enough to reach where I wanted it. -
Throttle Control slow speed trolling - 115hp outboard - recommendations?

Superhawk, I put a 90 merc 4 stroke on my boat a year ago and added a Smartcraft gauge w/ troll control. I can adjust via the buttons on the gauge from 1000 RPM down to 550 RPM in 10 RPM increments. That's 200 RPM slower than the natural idle of the motor without the troll control feature engaged. For the same reasons I decided to go without a kicker after running with one for 28 yrs. I can easily get down to about 1.6 SOG on open water, and usually need about 650 RPM to get 1 MPH here in the SLR current. I also mounted their remote paddle switch at the rear of my boat so I can adjust speed while messing with riggers. Prof T -
Awesome opportunity to hunt with a couple perfectionists. Worked birds right in to the decoys and called shots when everybody would have a crack (except for Kevin's solo triple). Two great hunts under less than ideal conditions. All birds cleaned, time for a siesta for sure!

Millens Bay/Carleton Island
Prof T replied to Shakemsam's topic in St. Lawrence River Fishing Reports - 1000 Islands Fishing
Esox hit it right on the head. Whether you're trolling or drifting, hug the bottom. Riggers can be deadly, but you've got to learn a spot. Best advice....better to do a small area perfectly than try to cover too much area 6 ft off of the bottom. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Big night for two buddies

Got to love those new four strokes. I'm at 135 hours on my new 90 merc and love it. Can it live up to the 30 years I got out of my 9.9 evinrude? Pretty sure by then my gear will be put away🤢 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Big night for two buddies
Prof T replied to Prof T's topic in St. Lawrence River Fishing Reports - 1000 Islands Fishing
It was always a dream to have a place where I could keep a boat on the water and fish as much as I do. I've met some great people, we swing close to each other and touch base each night, and have become a close community as a result of this site. I use a q tip dabbed in a Teflon lube like Triflow, wipe the inside of the cup and around the post. No mess and it holds up for a long time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Lake Ontario United mobile app

The picture was taken from my house. We fish from Clayton to the Bay, and I can assure you there are fish the whole way. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I've been trying for most of the summer to get two buddies of mine out for the eyes. They're northern fishermen, spend a lot of hours in the boat and usually do ok. Got out night before last for a couple of hours and trolled up a pair of beauties: a 30" @ 11 lb and a 29" @ 10. Got a couple others to keep it interesting. Glad I was able to produce for them. They've had to endure a lot of stories! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Agreed..target deeper spots during the daylight, ambush them as they move up at twilight, and get them feeding in the dark. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Awesome SLR fish. Congrats. Nobody just goes out and catches one. Awesome tribute to hours put in I'm sure. Got a chance to take a TILT tour of the ESF fish research center run by Dr Farrell. The man is possessed with the fish he referred to as the "ultra predator". Depending on forage (i.e. anything that swims ), he said a musky will grow to 40" in 3 years!!! 56? Quite a few more. Real trophy.

The silver lining in this is that this is, at least so far, a very rare occurrence. We fish here 3 to 5 times a week, catch numerous fish of all sizes and, because we keep logs, can say it has shown up in less than a half of a percent of the fish taken. I'm not saying it shouldn't be a concern, but I sure wouldn't let it keep me home if you're planning a trip!

SLR Walleye 2017 I know there's a new SLR section, but we've posted here before and some guys might not follow that thread yet. This year's been interesting, to say the least. The higher water, and thus higher current, have changed things up for those of us who fish the constricted areas of the river. June and July caused us to move off of our traditional runs in search of slacker areas where we could still get down and present lures effectively. Fish weren't stacked up like year's past, and you really had to have a dozen areas to hit to find cooperative fish. We still caught fish, but did a lot of moving and adjusting to do it. New spots here means lots of hangups and lost tackle. I left more gear last month than all of last year. The past couple of weeks have been getting pretty consistent. Fish are showing up and there have been some really decent ones. Interestingly, a couple other guys along with myself have been landing some undersize fish. I got just one all of last year, and I have had four on over the last three outings. Can't be a bad thing. Today's fish included one short, one decent one lost at the boat, a couple low 20's and a 28. Pretty typical of the past 5 or 6 outings. Just wanted to let guys know we're still at it.

Sold / Closed 1986 Sea Nymph 19ft w/2003 90 HP Mercury 4 STROKE SOLD 8/21/17

I own this same boat, rigged with a new 90 merc last fall. If you are looking for an inexpensive, SAFE, towable, very fishable boat at a reasonable price, give this listing a close look. I've owned mine for 30 years, have never replaced a rivet, and only performed the same repairs he has listed as already done. -
Same problem. Going to try some 30 mono on a rigger rod.

Fish are around, but compared to the last couple of years, they're pretty damn stubborn. Fished from 4:30 to 8:30 this morning and moved around a lot to find fish that would hit. Took over an hour and a half on 6 different spots to connect. Then it was all about swapping out lures to finally land on what they would hit today. Fleas suck. Surface weeds suck. Rain sucks. Current sucks. Had to hook 6 fish to land 3. If I had a chance to do it over and sleep in, would I? NO WAY -
x3 .... very sporadic. On one day, cant buy a strike the next.

Water levels?
Prof T replied to John Edward's topic in St. Lawrence River Fishing Reports - 1000 Islands Fishing
Although the speed is reduced near shore, you can still get around and there are many launches open. There are lots of boats out and the amount of debris is reduced since spring. Not saying there isn't any, just be alert. Increased current is a particular problem if you're fishing deep. It's made a mess out of my program.
