  1. I agree. Jigging is fun = You catch the fish, the boat just keeps you dry while doing it. Now I can troll for pike and walleye, while holding te rod. But I am in a 14 or 16 foot boat. And casting is fun too......jk
  2. How about now? Hay what happened to this message board, is everyone using something else?
  3. Do you slice the hide and get the guts open up. We make cuts all over the deer and once that side is eaten roll it over for their last dinner (hopefully)....jk
  4. How about now 2026? Good ice?
  5. That is now it's official name now. and Happy Holidays guys. Trappin season is here waiting for the ice to form somewhere close......jk
  6. Great informative post and especially you "rolmops" Thanks, a lot to think of......jk
  7. I have not used my own boat in a year there "trailer trash". Been with a friend in his boat, a old bass tracker with a 40 hp jet motor. Went ocean fishing last week instead on Friday-rough and no fish for our group. Be up next week I hope-weather permitting......jk
  8. I confess, I am a jigger!!!!
  9. Try the vinegar mix first. 50 50 with water, let it sit for 10 minutes.....jk
  10. Never was aware of any in Keyuka, but maybe they do not mess you up when you are jigging. that is all we do-jigging and it is fun......jk
  11. At a cabin in Chibougamau, Quebec, Canada there was a poster about the growth rate for walleye saying that 15 inches at 8 years old. Here in Pa I have read some where that the 15inch fish (I think I remember that as correct) were 3 years old. Big difference in Longitude and length of summer and food supply too......jk
  12. You might be right but someone said that as a joke and it stuck. Several friends now call it that. Haven't seen you in a while, was nice being around someone you know, just in case. They are biting more than ever before just small and some are very shallow, have caught some casting plugs in 20 feet of water. Good luck to you.....jk
  13. Could you or they give a quick answer to what happened to the alewives in Keyuka. We had tons of the until two years of full thick ice coverage and then that flood with the dirty water lasting for weeks. Not quite on the subject but if it could happen there could it happen in Lake Ontario.......jk
  14. My boat is smaller (14 with a 9.9) and GUFF who used to be here called it "Trailer Trash" We now frequently are in a old bass tracker with a 30 hp Merc. But still stay close to the bluffs, up either side for a miles or so......jk
  15. The fish are not big as they used to be. 25-30 years ago this was the big fish lake with lots of smelt around for food. Then it changed to alewives, fish grew fast but topped out at 30 inches and the alwives died off half a dozen years ago and now perch are the main food and the size shrunk again, with 22 inches being big now. there are stray monsters in there I think eating these little guys but you can't prove it by our success. You will not be skunked, just the opposite and there will be some under the 15 inch size limit......jk
  16. He uses awful heavy tackle for jigging. We have caught trout up to 15 pounds (our biggest) on 10 and I use 6 in Keyuka, just to get down fast. Most anything works that you see on U-tube, you just have to have faith in you tackle. I like the white fireline so we can see our lines above the waterline and not get messed up with each other. I then tie on 8-10 feet of Berkley XT or XL just to hide the line form the fish. I use a snap at the end because I am always changing and trying some thing new. If you want to match the hatch it is perch up to 2 inches but they are not fussy. Paddle tails swim bait blade bait jigging spoons all work. Use one ounce if you are over 100 feet and 1/2 if less. and yes you will frequently be over 100 feet down. Oh use a rubber net as they will roll, but they do taste good, not walleye good but good enough. don't worry about snagging bottom we have not, but I have had several cut off over the years up there.......jk
  17. Keyuka is hot but the fish are real small.....jk
  18. Yea for Grandmas. I have lost a lot of them over the years = great lure for both pike and walleye!!!......jk
  19. Thank you for your report. It does match our trip there, except you saw way more bait than we do. We only have a small boat and stay within a mile and a half of the point. We have caught some of those thin ones but not too many like last year. All the fish have been throwing up small one to 1 1/2 inch perch. Have not seen a rainbow there in many years, or any other species of fish. What is going to happen when they knock down the population of perch in a few months???? Depth does not seem to matter much so far to us and the fish have been off the bottom 3/4 way down......jk
  20. Of course we were up last week too and got an easy limit BUT small of course. Going up tomorrow. Largest just made 22 inches and they spit out little 1 inch perch even the ones form 100 feet of water. Oh we did see a few schools of bait up high 20 feet down. Can these be perch or what are they? Small schools that do not cover the width of the depth finders screen......jk
  21. Nice fish on a jig!!!! I am jealous, great fight I bet. I am stuck going to Keyuka and baby fishing......jk
  22. HOP, I had one of those in the '50s. At first with 18 hp (the biggest made then) And later on got the super duper 25. Long time ago!!! Neat photo thanks for posting that.......jk
  23. A 22 there is now a big fish. Easy to get limit but they are small and 25% are under the limit size. they do taste good though......jk
  24. So how long will this last? what a summer of weird weather. the last few days have been relatively nice, not overly hot......k
  25. Surprised you did not get one smaller, we always do and I mean small 12,14, 15 inchers......jk
