  1. Time for some porterhouse. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I buy the cheapest cameras I can get. Usually about $40 each. I cannot afford to have people steal expensive cameras because I hunt on public land. It is sad there are scum among us that will steal from their fellow hunters. I have two wildlife innovation cameras that work great. I also have a primos camera. Again each costed about 40$. 3. I installed the lowrance outboard autopilot in my boat last year. Works great. I had to buy the HDS to control it. My Elite 4 chirp apparently would not work. So I would be careful and make sure. My only concern is if either ever break down, I hear lowrance has no repair. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I'm not the OP but this is the best way. You need the Big motor in the water for it's additional rudder action. Otherwise, in rough water you will not have adequate control. From experience. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. As an FAA Aviation Safety inspector I can tell you most aircraft accidents are a result of a number of things that line up to create the accident. I assume boating accidents are the same. Weather is a factor in many. But it could also include equipment failure, inexperience or lack of skill, or possibly a catastrophic failure. We look at the Man, the Machine, and the Environment. I hope we can be provided with conclusion of the investigation results for this one as well as last year's tragic loss where apparently the boater was trapped while trying to get life jackets as his boat quickly sank. Knowing what happened is important for prevention. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. We went out to 375 fow. Trolled for an hour, turned north until we hit about 450. Nothing. Pulled up, went in 400. Set down again, took an 14 lb king, my nephew's first. Wondered if they were in shallow so we went in to 250 and two smaller Kings. 7 pm by then so we had to quit. Glad they were able to get a few because I thought we were going to be skunked after 2 hours of nothing. Still wondering what I should have done to get into them better, but that's fishing. 7. Going today for first time in 2 weeks. Taking two folks who never fished. Last time out we fished 400 FOW. But saw fish on screen in 80 to 100. Maybe staging now? To be honest I have had ZERO luck on staging fish. So, can I still go out deep and get the younger salmon? Or are the shallow fish biting? Thanks. I will post a report as always. Nobody on the boat is tournament fishing. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. My phone app (droid) has been very slow last month or so. Also for the LEU site. It's probably my phone, but this is a recent issue, do I don't know. Also, on my home computer, again, a problem only starting the last couple months, when I type comments it is very sketchy, doesn't register the key strokes. Have to keep clicking the mouse back on the text box, and restriking keys again and again. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Yes, the site's labeling is confusing. Also, when I receive my flies, all they have is a number, so I have no idea what they are. Frankly, I don't want to go back online to find out when I have the fly right in hand, and all I have is a number that means nothing. On the other hand, I always end up with flies and lures out of the package and I have no idea what they are anyways, do I guess it doesn't matter! 10. We fished off Olcott towards Wilson 7/23 to 7/29. Had a real good week. We spent all our time from 350 to 500 FOW. Best was about 400 to 440 for us. Temps and currents were crazy all week. There some fish inside at 80 to 100 fow in that warm water, we discovered on our last day. But we didn't fish them. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. 7/23, fishing was great in 350-380 FOW. Got 5 beauties. Went back today, same place and fishing was slow. Landed 2 kings, 2 Steel, but lost about 8 fish today. Could not hold them. Water temps today were weird....seemed warm out where we were. surface 69, and way down at 80 or 90 was 50-55 as I recall. Back at it tomorrow.
  12. I called the marina and they said for a Boat my size 22ft, a temp dock would be no problem if we need to get off the lake. I called 778 5462. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Thanks. I picked the wrong week for my friend to come from Idaho to fish, but we'll be fishing in the rain dodging thunderstorm's. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Best thing I ever Bought was an autopilot! Had a raymarine st 1000 tiller autopilot I made to work on my old boat with push pull steering, less than $300! worked perfectly. There is a thread under this old boat. Now with my "new" boat with hydraulic steering I bought the lowrance outboard AP and it works great! it costs $999. But you need and HDS 3 Fissfinder (maybe an HDS 2 with the right software) to control it.
  15. It may not be workable with hyd steering. Probably not. Mine had a push pull cable I had to disconnect, then connect the AP. It worked great, gave me heading steering which is all I needed. For $200 some bucks, couldn't beat it. Now I have a different boat, got last summer, with hyd steering. I got the Lowrance Outboard AP for it. Love it. But way more money at $1000. Plus you need an HDS 3, or maybe a HDS 2 with correct software. I worry the Fishfinder will go out, then I have no AP control. From what I hear the Lowrance are throw aways when they fail, no repairs. But, it works flawlessly. so far. I searched Raymarine ST 1000 in this old baot. 3rd page I think. here is link if it works:
  16. thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, looks like I will have no choice but to fish an east wind component while my friend is here., at least some of the days. Looks like out of olcott, sat and sunday are already no-goes.
  17. I put a raymarine tiller steer autopilot when I had my 17 foot caravelle, it worked great. I forget what it cost but it was around $275 or 300. I made a post on this site with a video. You have to make a bracket. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Not good to hear. I just bought one. Drag seemed weak, or not much adjustment, so I made it a 5 color Walleye rod. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Thanks for the report! Thinking about tomorrow but concerned about the waves. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. WOW where do I find this product on the NOAA site?
  21. I have written off tomorrow (Saturday) as being too rough for enjoyable fishing. Based on weather underground (link from the LOTSA website) and NOAA Marine forecasts. 15 to 20 MPH seems questionable. Theres only 2 buoys I know of, one near niagara river and one 20 miles ssw of rochester.......does anyone have a link to more buoys? Thanks.
  22. Hello all, Does anyone know if Olcott has a temporary Dock, where one could leave the boat to go have lunch and then come back and go out fishing again? I'm going to be fishing every day this coming week, and usually quit at noon and go home. But, since weather may be iffy, there may be a day or two we want to make a full day of it. I don't know what phone number to call and inquire about it. Thanks, Garry.
  23. Hello all. My Buddy is coming from Idaho to fish the 21st through 29th. Looks like we may have to fish some rough water. I Never had much luck with anything over 2 footers, although I try. Don't know why. It seems really hard to fish divers when its rough, I do know that. Any tips you can provide will be appreciated. I think it kills the bite, or he presentation of my lures. Thanks.
  24. I tinted my windshields with the film I bought at Walmart. I took the plastic sides off and installed the bug net ones. Boat came with both. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I'm going to try this next week. I have some I salted. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
