  1. i've been using my cannon single axis for about 12 yrs now with no trouble from any of them. i just hate leaning out over the side of the boat and pulling a rod from the holder with a fish on the line. just grad and lift on the cannon single axis and it ratchets to the upright position then i lift the rod up out of the holder.
  2. that pin is for the up down pivot not the left right pivot. all the ratcheting holders has to have a hinge pin for the up down motion. i was referring to the pin in the double axis that's used for adjusting the left right motion. this pin will let you move the holder from one pin hole to the next which might be to far or not far enough and this pin fails where as the up and down pin doesn't seem to be a problem on the single axis holders. just loosen the base and adjust as much or as little as you want then tighten it down on the single axis.
  3. you can get the single axis (no pins to worry about) holders at hodgesmarine.com for 76.16 each with free shipping to the lower 48. these are a much better holder than the double axis in my opinion.
  4. the biggest difference is in the base. the duel axis is square and adjusts left/right from pin hole to pin hole which at times can be to far or not enough. the single axis has an oval base and can be adjusted left/right as little or as much as you want up to 70 degrees. just get the holder where you want it and tighten it down. if you need to go 1/16" just loosen a little adjust and tighten back down. i've had both and like the single axis the best. i have the single axis. if you want to know where i got them on the cheap just message me and i'll try to save you a little money.. i would just post it but i dont remember off hand and i'm not on the server that has my favorites listed. ,
  5. the answer to all your problems is the med action 9' ugly stik gx2 rod. its light action but has enough backbone to hold up to 30# braid in salt water. dont lets its durability fool you its rated from 4# to 20#. so it light enough for crappin but will handle saltwater reds.
  6. rods found please close thread. thank you lou.
  7. bump to the top. still need rods as of now.
  8. i don't have any need for the 9'6" rods. i want 4 of the same size. if i could use them i would take them. actually i would rather have 7'6" or 7' but i'll go with 8'6" if i can get them.
  9. i'll pay 65.00 each for the 8'6" plus shipping. these rods are 89.00 each at fishusa.com with free shipping.
  10. i will take 2 rods but will take up to 4.
  11. back to the top.
  12. i need up to 4 roller rods 7' to 8'6" full roller or roller tipped. will pay fair price plus shipping. tell me what you got and price.
  13. where would a person get a mounting base?
  14. all the ratchet holders ratchet up the same. what makes the cannon better is the one handed lowering of the holder. on the traxstech you have to pull the pin with one hand while lowering the holder with the other. on the cannon you just squeeze and lower with one hand. however i do like the 17 adjustments up and down on the traxstech holders.
  15. i've used both the single and dual axis and i like the single axis best. they both are great for running divers. no more leaning out over the side of the boat to get your rod out of the holder. just grab the rod and lift and the holder ratchets up then just lift the rod out.
  16. cannon is the best way to go. just squeeze the holder with one hand to set it down. its really nice when you have a rod in your other hand. i almost switched to traxstech because it has 17 adjustments. but it takes both hands to set it down and the price is 50.00 more than the single axis cannons.
  17. i would guess with auto stop and adjustable booms there newer than 2006. but you can go to cannondownriggers.com and go to support then click on contact for there phone number or send them an email. it would be best if you have the serial numbers. i would just give them a quick call. that way your talking to someone.
  18. i just use a uni to uni knot for connecting all my lines, never had one fail. if you don't know how to tie a uni to uni go to youtube or just google it. a crimp could and probably would weaken your line. the only time i've seen a crimp was where heavy line was used that wasn't practical to tie a knot.
  19. you can contact cannon and ask them. i was using 13# on my big jon's and the breaker would kick out at times. called big jon and he said they was rated at 12#. but send it in for repair that it shouldn't be having a problem with 13#. but i switched to 12# and it hasn't happened again. i would say you wont have a problem at all with 12#. probably rated at least 15# anyway.
  20. 6 mph is idling way to fast. i would try idling it down to about 3.5 then try the bags. i have a 21' glass boat with a 350 mercruiser. idling at 650 rpm's runs me at 3.0 mph. what rpms are you idling?
  21. beckman make a wide assortment of nets.
  22. i used the 107 for awhile and liked them much better than a dipsy. but now i use the lite bite slide diver rigged like a dipsy. the lite bite is great for smaller fish on Erie.
  23. i've got a 17p high 5 that should work beautiful for you. it takes the flo torq hub kit. its in great shape. 225.00 shipped to your door. better hole shot, better lift, more boat control, than any 3 blade prop. message me if your interested.
  24. Beckman all the way for a great salmon net. we went up to Manistee last fall without a net. found the Beckman in a bait shop in Ludington mi. it was like 139.00 in the bait shop but well worth the money.
  25. i walleye fish Erie and use convector reels on my riggers.
