  1. IMO the coppers are a little more complicated then dipseys. Great to have but boy they can cause havoc! Lol. I’m guessing your putting them out on boards?
  2. Ive tried both ways and Ive had similar results. Normally when I’m fishing early season(walleye, brown) my rigger lines are 50ish ft behind the ball so Thts what my leader was cause I was told attachin the heavy line to rigger release can effect the action to spoon or stickbait. So I ran 50ish ft leaders. I eventually gave up on the long lead and went to 6-8ft and still caught fish. I’m only fishin the lake 4 years so still a rookie with alot to learn
  3. My first year I didn’t want to get overwhelmed with rigger, diver, copper, leadcore, boards etc. so I stuck with 4 rods on the riggers. After introducing divers my second year I laughed at how easy they were and kicked myself for not using them my first year. Theres days most fish come on divers and days most come on riggers. I couldn’t believe how simple they were to use and how many more fish hit the deck my second year.
  4. Welcome to the site. Great guys here with lots of knowledge always willing to Help. There is a category called “Lake Ontario Ports O Call” on the forum where people post open seats tryin to save on fuel and what not. Great way to meet members and get on the lake without owning a boat.
  5. my first year on LOU and on the lake I started with ONLY downriggers my first year. Primarily for the reason I wanted to learn the ins and outs and not get overwhelmed with dipseys, copper, leadcore, planer boards, etc. Also $$$$$$. Just bought a boat and had to buy gear to get started. If I could repeat my first year 100% I would have put at least 2 dipsey setups in the mix. I bought new 4pk Okuma magda 45’s combo on ebay for riggers cheap. spooled with 40lb big game (went thick for fleas in summer) and changed leaders pending species I’m fishing. Fish walleye with them on my local lake. Fish browns in spring. Kings in the summer. They worked for all. Yes, maybe I’d catch more If I had rods dedicated to each species but its what I could afford. 4 years later I still use them.
  6. When I was young fishin with my grandfather he always launched his 14ft there and that was the only launch I knew. Got my 25ft trophy and launched it there for the first time. Big mistake couldn’t put my outdrive down (to shallow) and wound up in the weeds. After cutting the grass for 45 min I was on my way. Mexico is 10min away and so much easier.
  7. I never thought of it that way. Definitely makes me think thou. On the handfull of calm days I throw my big boards out durrin summer with 450 on outside 350 inside and outside went off and got him to the shoot without a mess. Maybe I should switch them around.
  8. Nice work. Yea I dont believe what I hear or read when it comes to the weather up there. Anytime I’m goin out I stop at the Launch and look at the lake, Then proceed to the boat. That dictates if I go out fishing or just sit on the dock and shine some spoons. Lol I thought the purpose of shutting the one lane down was to encourage people to launch one at a time. It was kinda hectic there last weekend when I was passing trou.
  9. Thats pretty cool. Hopefully it goes to someone who fits the criteria and not just someone bein greedy.
  10. Lol. Thats what I did. Traded one addiction for another. At least I don’t think a salmon addiction has killed anyone. Althou I almost had a few heart attacks durrin some firedrills.
  11. Absolutely ridiculous!!! Lol. Are you booked this year for charters? Think I’m gonna be in the market for some schooling after things cool down. Nice work some great lookin fish
  12. Thank you buddy. I already checked them out after your comment. My thought was running that led rope light in my fridge and just load it up with flashers and spoons and leave the light on them while I’m fishin this way there always charged. Them rapala flash bulbs look much easier then what i was gonna do.
  13. Last friday night while sleeping in my boat I had a couple new carbon 14’s in the package under the light in the cuddy. Then shut the light off to go to sleep and they were glowing like the light was still on. Thats when the lightbulb in my head turned on. Lol
  14. Just wondering if anyone charges there uv spoons/flashers before sending them down and if you pull them out of the water to recharge after a little while. I have a small box for my uv jigs for Ice fishing and they charge and I’m constantly changin jigs out and seems to help produce more fish. Ive been lookin into spoon boxes with lights to charge them but can’t find any big enough. Also seen on Utube guys makin there own chargin stations. My next trip up to my boat I’m thinkin of turning my mini fridge on my boat into a chargin station for my spoons and flashers. I’m always buyin uv ,super uv flashers and spoons and runnin them not charged. Think I’m wasting my time? Or is this something I should have been doin over the past 4 years? thanks for any advice.
  15. Wow. That’s something special there. Love to have that for the 500copper.
  16. I didn’t know captain Joe. Wish I did. Really don’t know anyone on the lake other then LOU. This past Saturday as I was coming out of little salmon river Thunderstruck came on right before I started motoring west towards the plant. 5:30am I had no choice but to crank it up, and made me think of this post. (Really is a great song to hear on your way to do battle with kings) I didn't know him, yet I thought of him and the stories you shared. You fellas are great friends to keep his memories alive. I’m sorry for your loss.
  17. Nice work. Awesome video. Love the drone footage.
  18. Thursday morning I hit a patch in dirty water 20FOW loaded with fish. Never seen so many marks on the screen. Ran trou it 4 times couldnt get a hit. Maybe I should have stopped and tried casting. Never thought of that.
  19. I just checked the time of a pic I took at the launch when I passed trou. I took it at 10:39am and they must of had it moved by then cause guys were launching. But that explains alot now.
  20. Low baller ur post really hit home. 18 years ago I lost my way. Gave up everything I love family, friends, fishing, etc for addiction. I was just like your son. 7 years state prison, Multiple OD’s, and a father with swords up whenever I came around. Never give up. Addiction is a struggle that others can’t imagine if they haven’t lived it. came home in 2013 and stayed clean since. Life is great now. Good job, I own a house on 12acres in the country, own two boats, 2 cummins, just got married and workin on a family of my own. But most importantly my relationship with my father and my brothers are better then ever. I hope you and your son the best. If I can help anyway with my experiences don’t be afraid to PM me.
