EST ignition

I have a 1992 Mercruiser 3.0 L with Delco EST ignition. My question is : can I use an automotive module or do I have to buy the Mercruiser module? There is a huge difference in price. I can see no external difference in the two modules (auto vs Mercruiser) but the timing advance is determined by the module and I don't want any problems .

usually marine stuff has brass on contacts and springs less prone to corrosion ,napa has some good prices if you know someone with a discount (auto shop) .. they carry or can order most marine parts just call and give part number for merc and its in there computer some of the new guys (at napa)have issues going through catalog.the discount price i get is the same cost as most marine dealers ,i never have to go to marine dealers ,got everything from cables ,flywheel adapters, pump impellers, pistons ,filters, gaskets ...pret-much everything...and its all merccruiser packaged
