lower unit bearings

I just had the boat winterized and when I picked it up they told me that either the u-joint or the gimbel bearing would need some work. My question is how much would these repairs be? I have an alpha one outdrive. I am going to get it done just depends on cost as to when.

If the gimbal bearing or u-joints are in question there's usually a reason for it ( IE: leaking bellows or engine alignment ). If a gimbal bearing is greased and the outdrive serviced at regular intervals they normally don't go bad with out a reason behind it. That being said it expense to repair it would be a guess until the drive is pulled.

Thanks Guys Hank from what I have read about it you are dead on, it all depends what is inside. The boat sat for 2 years before I bought it and I did have a slight leak that was controlled with the auto pump while in the water so I am betting the boot has a hole. I just have to hope that the housing is not ruined that seems to be the most expensive part about it. PJ
