How do you splice wire on diver rods?

I have a kinked section I want to cut out of the middle. Also would like to add 50 ft of mono to another to do  a wire to mono slide diver. Any suggestions?

I think Fish Doctors used to have a video explaining how to splice wire, but I can't locate it.  At the risk of embarrassing myself with poor art skills, here is a diagram showing how to splice wire.  It works very well.  The wire on the right goes through the loop you create with the wire on the left and then wraps around it a few times before being brought back through the loop in the opposite direction.  Hope you can make sense of this.
