Sandy 6/17 morning
rolmops replied to tenatureboy's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
This morning was great boating weather, but it sucked for fishing. There were hooks and bait around 50 foot down over a hundred feet of water, but no takers. I continued out 280 feet and then back in to 250. At 50 t0 80 down over 250 there was a blank screen and the water temperature was around 47 to 49 between 40 and 90 feet down. Then I turned west because it seemed that there were some break lines on the surface that way. Sure enough the farther west the warmer the water became all the way up to 54 degrees at 70 foot down but no thermocline to speak of. Then within 15 minutes I caught 3 steelies all barely legal so back in the water they went. I was off the water by 1pm. All in all a nice morning. Probably the last one in a while with the weather prophets telling us that it will rain and storm for a while. - Today

I doubt it. The Rochester basin is nothing more than a mud flat around our intake. I am all for the habit restoration too. I just want the juice to be worth the squeeze.

Brian - That's really interesting. I understand they move out mid-fall or so. Unfortunately, every question answered by research raises many more questions. Does the plant's intake also put in a lot of fish eggs? I'm really curious on the follow-up to the USFWS project as they caught a lot of gobies over 8 days on a very small patch of water during spawn period. I'm all in favor of the reef clean-ups.

Interested in hearing reports, albeit useless once everything changes tomorrow. My report is that I watched from my kayak as both a deer and a bear swam across the South end of Hemlock. I'd have been hard pressed to paddle faster than the bear could swim...but I could beat the deer lol. -

Long Pond Water Chestnuts
GAMBLER replied to Smat64's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
When they are done, send them to Braddocks and Round Pond. They are taking over all the ponds. Thanks for doing this! -
Tom, We see a seasonal shift in gobies in our intake at work. Late fall, big gobies become unicorns and we only get 1-3" gobies for the rest of the fall, winter and early spring. It seems like they migrate to deeper waters. If they were to remove a bunch, more would just move in.

I have to monstrous golden retrievers to take care of. That makes it hard for me to get on the water before 8 in the AM. Don't bother with 72. The only reasons I still have one of those radio things on my boat is the weather and the MMSI. And if I am in an evil mood to spread fake news so people will move away from me. -

I'll probably be out there too. It looks like it will be the last fishable day before a few gales will come through to throw what little balance there is into pure upheaval. I'll do something that I have not done for years. I'll be listening on channel 72 -
Thats what i see too Nothing looks simple or conventional One good spot, matching on both sides, to put flush mounts and gimbals but getting to the rods, setting lines etc looks brutal Then the angle of cable in turns and stuff is right in the prop So this may turn into a dipsey boat, no riggers No way i can give up a cup holder for a rod holder..... Its a party boat

IMG_2482.HEICIMG_2483.HEIC It looks like the gimbal mounts on my Hurricane Fun Deck are mounted where you have cup holders on yours. You might be able to remove the cup holders and replaces them with gimbal mounts. If the gimbal mounts don't cover the hole because it may be too large you could use a piece of starboard to cover the hole and then mount the gimbal holder to the starboard? If you do this make sure you get a quality gimbal that is designed to take the stresses a downrigger will put on them. I've seen Hurricanes with riggers mounted on the swim platforms and it is a long reach to set lines.

Best thing you can do is team up with someone out of the port you are at and phone share / text each other to eliminate bad water .
