  1. HB - you are correct. I was being facitious & should of said that. Bottom line if the 21 & 16 are correct you'd actually use up more pure gas with the mix. That 210 mile trip would require 13.1 gallons of the mix and 11.8 gal (90%) of the mix would be pure gas. At 21 mpg, you'd only use 10 gal of the pure gas. Point being that you'd conserve gas if the gas was made more powerful rather than less powerful as it is with the ethanol added. Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. BINGO! And the people (gas companies) that put it into the gas. All 3 get subsidies. Corn used to be the #1 export of the US. In 2011 our #1 export was Gas. HB - Obviously you're confused - Look at you example this way: With 10 gal of gas at 21 gpm, your car would take you 210 miles. In order to travel the same 210 mile trip at 16 gpm would require you to use 13.1 gal of the mix. (210 divided by 16 = 13.1) However the 10% mix is actually 90% gas and that 13.1 gallons of mix actually contained 11.8 gal of gas. In other words, the 210 mile trip that used to require 10 gal of gas now requires you to use 11.8 gal of gas. Tom B. (LongLine)

  9. Thanx guys. I'm out in "beautiful" St Louis, Mo, right now. Mid to hi 50's & sunny right now. I'll try to send it your way. (Except for you ice fishermen...) Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. I don't what you consider "too far". Check out Nautical topo maps. 150 FOW is much closer to shore off Oak Orchard than it is off Rochester. But regardless July has the years smallest monthly average wave height. Generally like a mill pond early, then winds start to change/pick up around 9:30-10:00am unless a storm is brewing. (but weather sites will generally tell you that) Tom B. (LongLine) p.s. don't forget any of the safety gear and radio is a great thing to have.

  12. According to DEC website: You ARE allowed 3 lines + five tip-ups when ice fishing unless there is an area/specific water restriction. http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/79461.html Tom B. (LongLine)

  14. Obviously anyone answering this poll is using "electronics.... but as for being a "million dollar elect' capt"...no way. I wouldn't classify a $500 fish finder, a $400 Sub-T & a $100 radio as in the million dollar club. (riggr's are manual) My tackle box & reels are worth a lot more. Tom B. (LongLine)

  23. I'm guessing hooks are generally downward because there's more surface area in a fishes bottom part of the mouth than on the roof of it's mouth. (like most animals) Also, it'd change/fight the natural flutter of the spoon if installed away from the cup. Being attached with a ring will not allow hook to rotate the full 360 deg. If you really curious, try attaching it with a barrel/bearing snap & observe how the hook rides behind the spoon. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. Neo, I don't think I've ever seen a single barb "factory" spoon that didn't have the hook pointing towards the cupped surface. The great majority of fish I catch are hooked in lower jaw yet somehow every once in a while a little one with get "brain-hooked." I have a feeling those that were "brain-hooked' were becasue I was trolling a little fast. Tom B. (LongLine)
