9 inches is kind of big for any of the sculpins which are normally 3-6". Gobies may approach that length. Tom B. (LongLine)

rolmops - Richie Kessel's pet program has been promoting the "Recharge NY" program. Cuomo signed it into law on April 13th but Kessel wasn't reported in attendance at ceremony. hmmmm...makes one wonder. NY Inspector General has opened another investigation into "possible irreguarities at L.I.P.A." including "donnations" to groups favoring "sustainability" in last 10 years as well as possible "bid rigging". (Kessel used to run LIPA before he went to NYPA 2 1/2 yrs ago) hmmmm...makes one wonder. Cuomo has returned Ex-chairman John Dyson to NYPA board of trusties & it's rumored that he'll become chairman. hmmmm...makes one wonder. Tom B. (LongLine)

So I was thinking about a new engine this summer. Guess what...It won't be a Yammy! What kind of fools do they have running their Marketing???? I mean here you have a guy who charters a few times a year & his clients can't help but notice that their professional guide proudly displays the Yamaha name on the back of his boat. Talk about a free plug everytime he goes out on the water & they won't support it at all! Free advertising means nothing to them? Maybe they'll wake up when more Yahama name cowls are proudly displayed in the junkyard. Kind of makes me believe the E-rude video where the Yahama looses the motor pull and gets dunked. Good luck with it. I'd definitely be talking to BBB & AG about it. I'd also be googling some names/email addresses of some executives at Yamaha and tell them about the "Yammy Whammy". Tom B. If truely out of the SE, it'll be calm lake side, but don't count on any warm water in there. (launch may be a little sporty though) Best to check the forcast about an hour before you launch. NOAA weather radio generally very good. Tom B. (LongLine)

Can I rebuild the carburator on an old Evenrude 65 hp O/B?

An important thing with compression is that they're all close. Getting 100-teens is very good for that engine. Tom B. (LongLine) -

I'd be all in favor of this if it's priority was to dredge places like Braddocks, Sandy, the Oak, Port Bay etc, however, they're not federally recognized harbors. On the other hand, Buffalo, Rochester & Oswego are, but they're plenty deep for fishermen & sailboaters. - pardon my suspicion, but one word in that quote bothers me - "sustainable." My personnal opinion is that turbine boats should chip in considerably towards dredging any harbor they're going to use. Tom B. (LongLine) -

idn - Those e'rudes are real workhorses. (I'd check fuel 1st - may have a lot of water in it.) Good luck with it. Kappy - It's about a ft & 1/2 diameter on the left & 8" on the right & about 25 ft long. Guaranteed to do some serious damage to your lower unit. Saw 3 of them about the same size. (logs) Gill - we'll need radar to spot asian carp not sonar. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Fishing Report LongLine Man, it’s been a long winter.... Got a new battery, fired her up in the driveway last night and put all the stuff in it. Got gas on the way to the launch & arrived about 6:30. Maybe 6 trailers in the lot. Gosh darn, I love shakedowns.... Two guys there getting ready, 3rd tied up to ramp #3 with problems starting. Outer ramps each had 2 ft pile of branches but, hey… I can wait. 1st guy launches right down the middle of 2 & 3, closer to the boat tied up than the empty dock. Ok…just a little “rusty†from last year I guess. 2nd guy gets it in on 2nd ramp & parks. So I pull into #2 & un-strap. #2 boat then rearranges gear & cranks his kicker… & cranks, & cranks, & cranks & cranks some more. Boat at #3 gets it started so I back over to ramp 3 while #2 is still cranking. Boat #3 dies. Boat #2 fires up his main plant & takes off, so over to #3 ramp I go. In she goes & I park. Boat #3 gets it going & takes off. No one in line, so I put my weights on, put rods in holders, put my life jacket on & away I go at 7:10. (40 minutes for 2 boats at a 4 lane launch…..guess I'll throw a rake in the truck for next weekend) Anyways…Clear sky, very slight south wind. River temp 43.5F. Just at the CG station Boat #3 has his electric motor in & heading back to the launch. Hey you want me to tow you back? No thanks… er, okay… have a nice day. Of course with the reports off the east side of the river this week, I go west over towards Russell. No one over there. (No fish either.) Surface generally 38.5 but up to 41F in a couple places. Small flocks of birds scattered in 15 to 35 FOW. Some interesting down currents. Only saw one other boat that way. If he’d of come a little closer, I would of told him about these: If he’d of thrown a little bigger wake, I’d of been tempted to “bust his rodâ€. Nice to know my little boat can still roll over 3 ft’rs pretty well. Worked back towards the river in 8-10 FOW. No screen activity till out in front of Summerville pier. Working the mudline, I saw the mother-load: With some quick thinking, I put on my special org/gld NBK DWSS; lowered it to 25 Ft and within a couple minutes, I had my very first “Genesee Brownie†at 9 ½ Lbs. You got’ta be kidding me….. Gosh darn, I love shakedowns…. Blue water at 50 FOW. Off at 11:45. At least the boat ran well. Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine)

Atlantics for NYS stocking are raised at the Adirondack Hatchery. At the State of the Lake meeting a couple weeks ago, DEC lake unit mentioned that Adirondack got hit the hardest of all hatcheries re staffing by retirements & budget cuts. They said it wouldn't affect stocking levels throughout the state this year, but it would the following year. So a word to the wise, if you're not going to eat it, learn how to release it so it lives. Tom B. (LongLine)

Can I rebuild the carburator on an old Evenrude 65 hp O/B?
LongLine replied to CatFisher's topic in This Old Boat
Fuel pump is a piece of cake. One thing I'd recomend for anyone working on an outboard, if it isn't your livelihood...take a picture or two or three as you disassemble things. Digital is cheap. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Please remember that small boats must have an "alternate means of propulsion" in NYS. That means a paddle or a set of oars. Tom B. (LongLine)

You've obviously got a direct short someplace. I'd suspect the vehicle however without testing with a volt/ohmmeter in, very hard to tell. Could be a short in the vehicle harness gizmo. Did it happen last year/different vehicle? Got a friend who's willing to hook his vehicle up to your trailer? Tom B. (LongLine)

Here's some of Iberdrola's that lost their pin wheels in last couple weeks. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/a ... /homepage/ http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-2 ... round.html I can somewhat understand "new technology" having failures due to electronics/programing/computer glitches but with something as simple as mechanical fasteners???? Guess they'd rather "screw" us than screw in the blades properly. Tom B. (LongLine)
