  1. I stopped by the marina Saturday morning and met the gentleman the town has hired to get the renovation ball rolling. He spoke of a number of improvements coming to the marina over the next few years. As of today, the marina is back open, business as usual, $8.00 launch fee, leave the cash in the mail slot in the office door if you launch before they open in the morning. Jim S.
  2. Running a 17ft. Starcraft here since 1996, and a 16ft. Crestliner side console before that. Waves 3 foot or less.... good to go.
  3. I stopped by the marina on E. Manitou Rd this morning after breakfast. The road is blocked off at the main gate... as of now, the marina is closed to the public. The car top launch area is still open. Wanted to post this info. so someone doesn't drag their rig down only to get turned away. I live a mile from the marina and will check things out a few times each week and report any changes or activity here. Jim S.
  4. If it's in your budget, the best method is to mount a section of track. This allows movement of riggers and rod holders as the setups change during the fishing season. I use different rod holder positions in the spring for shallow board fishing than I do for riggers and wire divers later in the season. Nothing worse than mounting riggers and rod holders to the boat, only to find out later they are not in the right location. Tracks offer infinite changes to the setup without drilling a ton of holes.......... ask me how I know..... Just my $.02
  5. I'm the guy ERABBIT is talking about. PM me your email address and I will send you a copy of the post I put together a few years back. I also fish alone most trips, and only run Slide Divers with my wire. Jim
  6. Braddocks will be dredged, and new barrier beaches installed by the Army Core of Engineers starting this spring. Word on the street.... the marina off E.Manitou Rd. is to receive major upgrades. I'm hoping someone else can add some info on the marina, as the docks are taped off, and the office is empty. http://www.lrb.usace.army.mil/Missions/CivilWorks/DistrictProjects/BraddockBay.aspx
  7. I stopped by the marina today (Sunday). All docks were blocked off, ramp was a mess with logs and debris. Looked in the office window and everything is gone..... just an empty room. Hopefully it will return to a full service marina when the new channel is dredged open.
  8. How was the water level? Braddocks is my home port, but I'm nervous about the old trolley pilings that would be just below the water lever about now. Hitting one of them with my tin boat doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. The channel won't be marked until the end of the month. Could you get a visual on the pilings when leaving the bay?
  9. Slide Divers for me the past 10 seasons. Wire all year long, a longer mono leader in the spring
  10. Turning with the big boards out has to be a slow, wide turn, or you end up with the problems you describe. I've used the old "Jolly Releases" for years with no problems, but they seem to have gone out of business. I changed over to the Scotty mini releases and they seem to be no problem if they end up in the water for a bit.
  11. I'm a precision grinder / mold maker at a larger shop here in Rochester.... lots of "custom" goodies on my boat.... trust me..
  12. I use Sterns, West Marine, and an Onyx belt pack when it's hot out. Also had one deploy in a hot, wet storage locker. I fish mostly alone and never ever leave the dock without using one. I agree the best thing to do is try a few on at the store and fid the one that fits you best. They are pricey, but how much is your life worth?? We spend thousands on fishing equipment, then complain about the price of life jackets....... At least wear a belt pack if you don't like the vest style. Here's a video of the belt pack I use when it's too warm to use a vest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB1K2wJC8Vc
  13. I also have a Sport PIlot, installed it myself in a few hours.... so far, 9 seasons of flawless service
  14. Congrats!! 'Tis the season for big browns.... I took my largest brown ever 4 years ago on March 19th, in 8 feet of water off the Greece ponds.
  15. Last I heard, the small Tohatsu, Mercury and Nissans where all the same. I had a 3HP Tohatsu for years... it ran like a top.
  16. Make your own..... $20 for materials at the local home center.
  17. Construction crews are connecting the new marina with the river as of last Monday. I was asked to leave the area as shovels and payloaders moved boulders around, and dug out the entrance channel. I don't think they work on weekends so you should be good to go. Jim S.
  18. NK spoons suck and do not catch fish, that's why they are no longer in business. PM me with your address and i will be right over to collect and dispose of those spoons in the proper manor.... free of charge..  You've got some nice patterns there..... I've been running NK's since i started trolling in 1989
  19. I'm fishing out of a 16' 8" Starcraft aluminum.... 20th season on the lake with this boat starts in a few weeks..
