  1. Make sure you have a solid 12 volts coming into the rigger, well charged battery, good connections, no corrosion, or undergage wire. You should have at least 12 gage wire, bigger is better. Also make sure the pulleys move freely & are lubricated at the axels. If all of this is OK you may need a new motor.
  2. Used to fish this area frequently in the early 90's. Picked up several > 40" muskies trolling along the North side of Carelton Island from the West end of the island green bouy past Iron man to the East end of the island. Cought an 11.8 Lb eye where the ferry crosses from Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island in the middle of the river. This fish hit a stacker 50' down. Also used boards with deep divers from the ferry crossing area down to Carelton with some good days on eyes. You have to be aware of the river current, you will really have to pick up your speed going with the current & do the opposite going against the current. Watch out for the reef that starts at the Green bouy just off of the Cape Vincent launch, it is just under the surface almost all the way to Carelton Island. It also gets very tight at the West end of Carelton when a freighter comes along (their air horns are loud).
  3. Big jon brutes, they make fishing deep easy with 20 lb sharks!
  4. I have the transducers split one on each side of the transom (sonar & FH), to prevent possible interference. My FH (840 with the new probe) reads down to 300', requires no coated cable to continuially be damaged each & every time you operate the rigger, or fail in the middle of an improtant trip. Coated cable contributes to blow back because it is so much thicker, & it is pricey & not available everywhere!!! DR's are OK if you like to have limitations in the use of the DS & DT unit.
  5. Tying a swivel minus the snap is the way the Fish Doctor taught us to do it. The overhand loop works, but the mono becomes distressed after a few big fish, and weakens too much.
  6. Lock & load!!!! Fire in the hole!!!!
  7. HERE IS HIS RESPONSE WHEN HE BACKED OFF FROM HIS DECISION TO LET THE MILITARY PAY FOR THEIR WAR INJURIES (Obama). Bad press, including major mockery of the plan by comedian Jon Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540 million annual cost to the federal government of treatment for injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty. The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal. "Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained. "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute.." "I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country, "Obama continued. "I wasn't asking for blood, just money. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I'd have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help reduce the nation's deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans." Please pass this on to every one including every vet and their families whom you know. How in the world did a person with this mindset become our leader? This guy can blow trillions of $$$ on businesses that should have been allowed to go out of business & wants to screw our Vets over what amounts to chunk change!!! Three years & four months till the madness is over!!!! REMEMBER THIS STATEMENT... "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? " If this @$$ thinks he will ever get another vote from an Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard service member or veteran of a military service he ought to think it over. If you or a family member is or has served their country please pass this to them. Please pass this to everyone. I'm guessing that other than the 20-25 percent hardcore liberals in the US will agree that this is just another example why this is the worst president in American history. Remind everyone over and over how this man thinks, while he bows to the Saudi Arabian king.
  8. Snagger; Any pictures of the fish??? Please post them if you have them. Might be on Oneida this weekend.
  9. everett; I use a Fishawk X-4 & for spoon programs I run 2.8 +/-.2 mph down speed, for flasher flys, I run 2.6 +/- .2 mph down speed. This is on lake Ontario for Kings, Steelies, & Coho's. Usually park my lowest rigger at 42 to 48 degrees F & put the rest of the set above that, use free sliders too! I think you should bump up your down speed. The speed you are trolling < or = to 2 mph would be good for lakers or running cut bait. Your lures are probably not moving around enough. Try running faster & let us know if it helps. We are fishing the same area, as I fish from Sodus to the Big Salmon River. Good luck!
  10. Do you have a down temp & speed unit?? If not, you need to vary your speed enough to find what the fish want that trip.
  11. Great looking dog! I am sure that no one messes around outside your house without his/her permission!!!
  12. I have this cable on my 21' Lund with 175 HP Yamaha V-6 outboard & a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke kicker. The kicker is connected to the big motor while trolling. The NFB system eliminates the torque steer from the big motor completely. You do not have to hold the wheel tightly while on plane. I find the the wheel easy to turn under full power on plane. It is also is no problem steering the kicker either. I have not noticed any issues turning the engine while docking at slow speed. This cable has performed flawlessly for the last 6 years. I say go for it, you won't be dissapointed. Good Luck!
  13. Is the filtering turned of for the surface & down signal? These need to be set to off or on the lowest setting to get maximum sonar performance. You also need to have the sensitivity at at least 75% of the scale or higher to get a strong enough signal. What sonar unit do you have?
  14. It is good people like you & me & others on this board that get taken advantage of by the schemers! Most people keep their word & luckily only a few are like that though! It spoils it for the rest of us! Kinda reminds me of the current US government! They are asking us to trust them, while they are planning to clean out our wallets & give it to people who don't contribute to the system.
  15. Love my 20lb sharks, almost no blow back & I can see them on the soanr as deep as 300'. I agree with Yankee to go deep, where the fish are in Mexico bay, you need to have heavy balls!
  16. My Lowrance Dual Frequency sonar marks my 20 lb sharks down to 300' with no problem. You need the 50khz frequency wide cone angle to see the weights.
  17. Nice job & good story!! Congrarts!!!! Interesting how Sodus accounted for so many of the palces in the salmon division.
  18. I am not surprised with all of the South wind we have had over the last few days. Thanks for the info!!!! Good Luck!!!!
  19. Just get a manual impact driver with a screw driver tip that fits tightly into the slot & give it a rap on the end with a hammer (or several raps), & it should come out easily. The manual impact driver turns when hit with a hammer. They are typically used to remove motorcycle case screws which are normally Phillips heads, but they work just the same on slotted screws. The hammer strike causes very good lockup in the screw head while the bit is forced to turn by the spiral grooves in the impact driver. If the screw driver slot on the drain plug is damaged, be sure to replace it. You could use some never seize on the drain plug when you replace it to prevent future problems. Good luck!
  20. In 200 to 300' feet of water off of Fairhaven 7-19-09, we had 42 degrees 150' down. Stayed 64 degrees to 100'. Your unit may be not reading correctly in deep water. Were you fishing out I-Bay?
