  1. Our second option to fish Saturday after conceding a blow off at Fairhaven on Ontario, was Oneida lake. Picked up a 3 man limit of nice Eyes in about four hours trolling 40 foot water on the east end of the lake. Trolling speed was 2.3 to 2.5 on the GPS. Took fish on riggers, dipseys, & in line boards all pulling stickbaits. Board baits were weighted w/3/4 oz rubbercore sinkers 3 feet above the deep diver. They liked gold/black/orange 2 hook baits best. Threw back some short eyes, silver bass & sheepies. The fish range from 16" to 21". One perch too.
  2. Mexico Bay 7-10-09 is loaded with fleas, had to clean off my 30lb big game every 20 to 30 minutes to stay in the game.
  3. I am using standard 150# test cable.
  4. Fish Hawk as Billy says just set it & forget it (that was Billy, wasn't it?).
  5. Beckmans are probably the best built, but they are too heavy for me to use when I fish solo or have my wife doing the netting. I use the biggest Ranger extendable handle net. You cannot lift a big salmon from the end of the handle without bending it though, so you have to slide your hands up the handle to the joint then lift the salmon into the boat. Plus these only cost $50 plus tax. New handles are also available if you bend yours. Good luck!!
  6. Just keep drinking the Koolaide fishman08, the government loves people like you who want them to run & control our lives, frankly they have too much to say right now!!! We are being taxed to death in support of stupid efforts like dry water. They cut the funding for cormorant control, but increase the on water harrassment patrols, how can that make more sense? NYS government is broken, & every politician in office now needs to be gone in the next election!!! It is people like you who keep these animals in power, to quote a famous person " people who give up any freedom for an ideal deserve none! I am sick & tired of being ripped off by a bloated NYS government that refuses to realize that they have gone too far!
  7. skipper19 Having the cops on the water is not much of a deterrent, for sure, & they probably are on OT as well. There are soooo many more people being shot, stabbed, (new record last week in Syracuse), robbed, asulted. This on the water harrasment of boaters is nothing more than a money grab for the local townships! This is a total waste of effort, as these cops should be after the hardened criminals, but don't hold your breath waiting for them to be redeployed, you will run out of air. The cost versus benefit of this activity is sooo bad, wasted salary & expensive equipment money for sure. Just a total waste of NYS taxpayers $$!!!!
  8. This is just another example of too many cops on the payroll. They are on vacation on the water, & enjoy being a pain to us all. If they are going to continue to have this many around they should be looking for real criminals, but noooo that is too dangerous, & requires real work.
  9. Bigjon brutes can handle a lot more than 20 lbs. The factory told me that they had to go up over to forty pounds to start to slow the rigger down with the 4' boom. I ran my 20 lb sharks in 4 foot waves with no boom problems, the only problem I had was controling the weights in the rough waves moving the boat around so much.
  10. I love my Shark 20lb'ers, almost no blowback down to 200'!
  11. Does she always have a fly rod in her hands????
  12. There is a cleaning station West of Golden Hill at the Newfane Town Marina, $1 per fish for carcas disposal. It is pretty nice, but can get crowded at the end of the day.
  13. Bass commit suicide for anyone all the time, why would you need book to tell you how to catch them, let alone a book costing that much?
  14. Procure an 8lb sledge hammer & a good pair of safety glasses, place the rigger on a hard surfac (I.E. driveway), & deliver overhead blows with the sledge till all parts are reduced to no bigger than a baseball. Task complete, & you are welcome!!!
  15. Red Sucks, Red Sucks, Goooooo Red Sucks
  16. Thanks for the response Tim. I put a set of BigJon Brutes on the back of my boat with two 20lb sharks, & picked a number of kings down 180 to 200' during the Spring LOC out of Olcott. My X-4 worked well at this depth & the big sharks kept the blow back to a minimum. Am looking forward to chasing the way deep kings in Mexio bay this summer with this set up, as I have 400' feet of cable on the Brutes. Good luck to all!
  17. Tim; What maximum depth is your speed & temp unit supposed to work to by it's factory specification? How many feet deep can you go with your down speed & temp unit in your actual experience using it? Thanks; John
  18. Irish 56 Dan: They may be the same to you, but there is no denying that you have an antenna at the rigger (electrical connection) that can be damaged or be troublesome & coated cable that if it becomes tangled with another rigger cable, will be compromised as the coating is peeled off. The coated cable is expensive & is thicker which causes a lot more blowback at depths over 100'. I have used my Fish Hawk to depths of 300' with no signal problems, & I don't think you can get coated cable that long or if the unit will even function with that much cable. The Fish Hawk X-4 has none of these problems. Just my two cents! John
  19. Get a Fish Hawk X-4, it works down to 300+ feet! All the rest are not as good, especially when you damage the coated cable!
  20. As we all know California is the land of Fruits & Nuts, ya think?
  21. CBish: Thanks for taking the time to inform us!!!! Maybe the Kings will come over to the US side sooner & in greater numbers due to the lack of super cold water from the Niagara River stopping their Eastward movement.
  22. They tax us more & give us less service & fewer options. They passed a budget 10% larger than last year, now that is the definition of stupid in these hard times. We pay for too many people who do not work & suck up free bennies from the NYS Govt. We need term limits & and a goverment structure 50% of where it is now! I have not voted for an incumbent in recent years, because they all suck!
  23. If you replace the cable, make sure it is a "No or zero Feedback" type. When under power, you can let go of the wheel & the boat maintains course. Not true with the others.
