The use of 2 stroke motors have been outlawed on the Kenai River unless they have "direct fuel injection". This sounds like the end of 2 strokers is coming.

In the early season fishing till the water gets into the 60'sF. I find the surface temperature reading is the most important. I look for the warmest surface water temperatures. The fish will go deep in the cold waters to escape the strong rays of the sun on a blue sky day and when they do their metabolism slows down and they go off the feed in the day time.

The big question on the 2 strokes is " Where does the oil go?" On a 4 stroke you drain and change it, on a 2 stroke where does it go???? Eventually you may not be able to sell your 2 stroker.

I think most engine manufacturers want regular oil used is to seat the rings in the cylinders better. Some engines increase their mileage after a couple thousand miles when the rings wear into the cylinders. A friend of mine used synthetic oil in his new Ford and that car burned oil forever. Ford blamed it on the synthetic oil as it is too good and the rings never "wore in". But today Ford wants you to use their 5W20 oil to increase the corporate average fuel economy.

My Lund Tyee 18' handled the Cannon 2' and 6' booms well for 15 years of use. With 12# balls! I did back them up with a length of 1/2" plywood also.

If you tie a piece of line directly to a split ring and the other end to a solid ring, pull and see which end breaks first. I think the split ring squeezes out and the flat edges cut the string. Luhr Jensen lures when they were out of Oregon always used solid rings because they felt the split rings cut the line. On a copper split ring, I had it straighten out and lost the lure once.

Rivets or welded aluminum? I had a lot of experience with riveted boats and I would choose a welded boat like Crestliner.

All Nissan, Mercury and Tohatsu motors 25 HP and less are made by Tohatsu. Just different paint and decals.

25 years on a 4 Cannons that I picked up used. I replaced 2 plug ends. I have a Scotty and like it also, good speed but I use a Cannon fot the Moor speed and temp at the ball.

The best deck material is a good marine grade carpet. Even in freezing weather it stops slipping. To keep it clean, carry a bottle of laundry detergent and a 5 gallon bucket. Carpet glued to the sole of your waders will stop slipping on the slimiest of rocks.

The most important thing in anchoring is using enough line to hold bottom. When we fish for perch on Lake Erie during the late summer, we are in 80 feet of water. You need 250 of rope to hold bottom if it is not blowing too bad. I use 3/8 inch polypropeline which is light and doesn't take up much space in my boat.

I know of one Charter Operator that uses braid and 30# flourocarbon leaders. He claims there is no dropoff in catch rates. He also did not lose one lure or fish to breakoffs. The same system he uses on Lake Erie for walleye and he wins a lot of contests there also. It is claimed that flourocarbon is invisible in water so size doesn't matter.

My 10 HP Honda trolls nice and it brought me in at 7 MPH when I had a problem with my main engine. You have to connect it with an EZ Steer rod and both engines have to be in the water to steer to port safely. The other engines lower unit acts like a rudder. I put a bungee cord on the EZ Steer rod to keep it from separating.

Also use larger washers called "fender washers" to help stiffen the mounts.
