  1. Do some research on this Chowder. Some are designed to keep your head above water should you lose conciousness or hit your head going over and get knocked out or injured and some aren't. All depends on what you are looking for but there are a variety of different applications for each type and I don't remember the specifics off hand. Stearns is a pretty good name with a good reputation. I believe I went to the Stearns websight to read about all that stuff when I bought mine. Glen
  2. LOL Two rods out of that big ole boat you got. I don't know if you'd be able to find um. FISH ON.... Wheres the rod.... You got lots of room for tackle to.
  3. Larry Thats all good info that I was not aware of. Just for my own education could you elaborate a little more on the actual success of that Coho planting in the last 42 years. And if that success was as hoped would you still be against the 3 rod rule? As far as the boats fishing from the first bridge isn't there laws regarding blocking a water way used for navigation already in place? Thanks for your input. Glen
  4. Scott, How did you like the open division other than the websight thing? Have you tried clicking on the photo show on the websight? LOL Didn't do much unless I'm missing something. Glen
  5. Are you saying there are 5360 members against the 3 rod rule? What would your position be? That IS what the topic is about if you care to discuss it. I'm all for it and believe it will do a lot more good than harm to the fishery. The 2 rod rule is now in place and it is a fact the number of people fishing the lake along with the money they bring to the fishery as well as the local econmies are on a decline. Thats doesn't seem to be good at all for the fishery because it is money that maintains the fishery as it is. Somethings got to be done to reverse this trend or the fishery as we know it will eventually be gone. Alot of guys that fish the lake do it to catch fish. If they catch a few fish they are happy and are much more likely to return particularly if they have to travel a distance to do it. A couple of trips with no fish they might not return. Not everybody on the water has the experience and ability to be able to beat up on these fish. There is also an awful lot of water for those fish to be in. Glen
  6. Probably repeated a couple things as there were 2 posts added while I was typing. LOL Very helpful people here. Glen
  7. All good accurate info above. The cushion type throwables are Coastguard exceptable and cover the law if they are not damaged. A ring in a smaller boat takes up space. The law requires these devices are EASILY accessible. Can't be in a storage locker. The inflatable pdfs are a bit pricey but very comfortable. If you go with the automatic inflatable it does require some maintanence as you have to keep the triggering system current, every couple years on mine. But should you go overboard and are unable to pull the cord for any reason they will inflate automatically when you hit the water. This might be a good idea if you fish alone at all. As already stated the flares have an exp. dates on them and MUST be current. Probably the best way to store them is in the original package, unopened. Glen
  8. Chowder, A 1500 is a good chioce for a 2nd pump. I just added a 2nd pump this summer after an incident during the Sodus Proam. Rule makes a good pump and I went with a fully automatic pump. You definatley want to go with a 2nd outlet on the boat. It's not that much work just make sure you install it well above the water line. I can tell you from experience, a bad experience, you don't want to take shortcuts here. Heres the best prices I found on them. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=s ... &x=15&y=21 Glen
  9. Well put Rod. I also started to think about what I could do to try and drum up new sponsors after reading Paul and Rays posts. Unfortunatly I just don't have an once of that salesmen kind of stuff in my entire body. LOL. Can't hurt to try I guess. Glen
  10. So they should be pretty strong fish for their size then. Nice. Keep putting up the pictures if you would. Thanks Glen
  11. Nice fish Stan. I'm jealous as all our ponds are frozen solid now. Thanks for the pictures as looking at fish pictures helps get me through the winter. One question. Are those native rainbows out there or are they stocked fish and if stocked how big are they when they put them in? Thanks Glen
  12. Has Been wrote: Question. What do you do with the fish that are in bad shape once the box is full & you are in C&R mode? Well Has Been there just ain't that many days that I fill my box as I am mostly catch and release and keep a few of the rough ones for people at the campground to grill up. Or I'll keep a few if someone fishing with me or at home wants some meat. So that isn't much of an issue on my boat. In fact other than tournaments and a yearly trip out to the Niagara Bar I honestly don't remember the last time I kept a limit of Salmon. I think they taste kinda like swamp but many people that I know love them. Perhaps you should not worry about me and take a look at Has Been. Here is a statement made by you on a post from not so long ago regarding the 3 rod rule. Has Been wrote: When I did have it I ran 4 rods most of the time somtimes 6 on 4 riggers or board s or dipsys or whatever. My best day out with 3 of us was 54 fish on with 36 landed, with 2 kings apro 20, 4 rods. What did YOU do with those fish Has Been? Never mind answereing as I'm not that interested in hot air. Glen
  13. Sure Walleyemagic. Don't take it personal. Just had alot of people disagree with that one idea. Everyones opinion counts. Glen
  14. Thats a shame. Beautiful fish. Have a good winter. Glen
  15. That is a DANDY Paul. Nice job. Did you do a mount? Any pictures you could post? Glen
  16. Geez Rapala, Did you have to list all that? Now I'm depressed. What some people just don't get is if most rec guys are on fish and they are having some action 2 rods is plenty and alot of guys would only have 2 per out there. When the fish are scarce and spread out and you got to cover alot of water to find them is when the additional rods would make a trip more enjoyable. I don't buy this "more dead fish" crap one bit. You can do the same thing with 2 rods per man when you go into catch and release mode after the box is full. And if you know what you are doing you can release most fish in good shape. For us, the ones that are in tough shape are the ones that go into the box no matter how many rods out. Glad I didn't read that out of state thing earlier. LOL Happy fishing. Glen
  17. Don't know that wire will help your landing percentage but it sure catches fish. Like anything else, the more you use it the better you get. There is a learning curve. Glen
  18. If questions need to be answered then i suggest we look in our own back yards for the answers first..Obviousley starting in Oswego call Dave Turner..The rule wasn't stuffed down anyone's throat it was inherrited by Oswego as part of the rule which were already in place. Lets all get our facts right before we go spilling false info all over the place..It doesnt seem to be hurting anyone right now nor in the past.. This "Inherited" rule caused a good number of boats to stop fishing the Oswego event. Look at the entry decline since this was "inhereted". In fact, guys that fished it under closed comunications, one of which already posted on the subject, feel it was "stuffed down their throats". Seems like the facts are pretty straight to me. Glen
  19. I run Okuma Blue Diamond roller rods 8 1/2 footers, Shimano roller rods 8 1/2 footers and Blue Diamond Dipsy rods 10 footers reg. guides for my slide divers with braid. For the wire I prefer the Shimano roller rods. Glen
  20. Shrink tubing over the whole thing will keep you from seeing your knots. If there is a problem you won't know it until it's to late. Glen
  21. Clarke the answere to your question is yes I can mark my weights on the 50 at all depths. The deepest I've run them is about 200 feet. The signal was weaker down there and just showed as a faint line on the screen but I could see them. As the cone angle travels deeper, the coverage area increases which probably compensated for the additional blowback. As a side note I run a thru hull airmar. The thru hull made a huge difference over the transome mount with my Furuno. Glen
  22. I ran the fake bait while there was a GOOD King bite going on. It only produced one fish for me but it was a biggin . All three of the other rods took multiple fish. To be honest, thats the only time I tested it under those conditions and it hasn't seen much time in the water since. I've never run the whole bait but I can attest to cut bait certainly having it's days. Glen
  23. Don't take my word for it, go here. Airmar makes most of the transducers used on fishfinders. http://airmartechnology.com/airmar2005/ ... D=3&NewID= Select product brochures from the technical information section. Then select transducer product guide. Jan, you might find what your looking for there also. If not they probably have a Tech # you could call to answere all your questions. Glen
