My crew smells bad enough. Don't need it. Glen

Soon as you can get the boat in is the best time to start. Spoons and stickbaits right along the shoreline. Light line and slow trolling when the water is cold. Glen

Otter Boats. Just plain run good and handle bumpy water very well. Glen

Sorry for your loss Tom. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Glen and Kelly

In the market for four stroke Yamaha kicker - need advice
spoonfed-1 replied to lavarock64's topic in This Old Boat
Just for starters I would think the weight factor would be the 1st thing to consider on an 18 foot aluminum. You got to look at what you already have on there for main power and how the boat will ride with the additional weight of the kicker plus a couple guys standing back there playing and netting fish. I know guys that push 21+ ft glass boats with the yami 8's. Next thing that I would look at is the charging capability of the kicker. What do you need to keep the batterys (battery) going. That will help you make a decision on your kicker selection. If you can get away with the 8 over the 6 then thats what I would go with as I've never heard of anybody complain about being overpowered when the wind kicks up and wants to blow the boat all over the lake. I know quite a few guys running the Yamis and there a good motor. I run a Honda and I am happy with it as well but it's nice to have a matched set on the back of the boat. Can't help you with the prop question. Good luck with your decision. Glen -

I doubt fuel prices will come down in the future. I would guess theres alot better chance of them going up. You got to decide if it's worth it to buy that boat or not. As far as alternative fuels, when we get to that point there will always be the option to repower. When I bought my first computer I kept putting it off because technology in that field was growing by leaps and bounds. I ended up going 2 or 3 years without a computer and when I did buy one it was old technology in about a year anyway. LOL Who knows were we will be in a decade. Might be spending Yuan unless this Government wises up. Good luck with your decision. Glen

"Were you told you could not deduct things like entry fees, dockage, and gas against your winnings?" That is correct. I was told they are entertainment expendetures and could not claim them. After being told that, I double checked with the accountant at work and was told the same thing. It's like if you go to a casino in Vegas and win a few bucks. You get to pay taxes on your winnings but the cost of the flight and Hotel fees and stuff like that your on your own. Glen

Little side note to that video I just watched. It stated to pack the bearings with grease. Shimano recommends ONE drop of very light oil for each bearing set. Any more than that and it could effect your drags operation. Guess you got to make that call. I went with the oil. Glen

I don't beleive you can claim those expenses incured to keep or maintain the boat unless you are using it for a business. Thats what I was told buy my tax guy a few years ago anyway. Also couldn't claim any expenses incured fishing the proams as an amature fishermen because they for entertainment. Just the winnings over $600.00 I had to claim Glen

Sounds like I'll have to call my boss and tell him I'll be out for a couple weeks researching and preparing a petition for the 3 rod rule. LOL Thanks for your feedback. Glen

I ordered the Shimano drag washer grease directly from Shimano parts dept. 1 oz will last you along time. The job isn't that difficult but there is a little metal spring loaded pin on the reel handle shaft that you need to pay attention to. As you are unscrewing the star drag adjuster off the shaft watch for that little pin to fall out. It is the clicker mechanism on the star drag adjuster. Glen

Sounds all well and good but sorry, we are for the most part just a bunch of fishermen here. We do not have experience or education in survey research but what we do have is an awful lot of combined hours fishing Lake Ontario. And I can tell you the majority of those that gave their opinions are people that care about the well being of the fishery as well as pay to support it. We are not scientists or polititions and discuss these matters on a message board that is being run for just that purpose. SO WHATS THE PROBLEM? You wrote: As for the ‘poll’ I would NOT put any credence in any passive polls put up on a site like this. Totally skewed result. I will leave it at that. How could you not put any credence in a poll that is being conducted and discussed here by some of the worlds leading experts on the subject? The guys that fish Lake Ontario. Glen

Just a friendly reminder. After pulling my Shimano Tekotas apart and cleaning and greasing the drag washers I figured I would put out a little reminder about doing it as a couple of my wire reels were in desperate need. These drag systems take alot of abuse from those big ole mean sprited Kings and need to be maintained. For the 20 minutes it takes it is well worth it to be in good shape to fish all these new derbys that are hittng the lake this season. A clean and lubricated drag system is a happy drag system. Glen

Small boat and motor...Where can I fish???
spoonfed-1 replied to woodschurch's topic in Open Lake Discussion
You can fish out of any port on the lake in a 16 footer. You just got to pick your days and stay relativley close to port with the 10 hp. Things can change in a hurry out there. Spring Browns close to shore is a good bet. Mexico, Oswego, Fairhaven and Sodus are all good for spring Browns. There are many more I'm sure but those are the ones I'm most familiar with. If you want to go west for salmon and lakers the Niagara Bar is a good choice in the spring. I fished that area out of a 17 1/2 footer many times with no problems. I ran a 90 hp on it though but once the fish move up onto the Bar you don't have to go far to get on them. Just use common sense and pick your days. No fish is worth risking your saftey over. Glen -

Yup, Happy B day Glen -
Sooooo, that would mean there are at least two pinheads in the State of NY. Big Deal. It will go thru legislation if there is enough people asking for it. DEC has claimed a neutral position on this previously and I'm sure your post will get the troops inspired. Glen
