Probably repeated a couple things as there were 2 posts added while I was typing. LOL Very helpful people here. Glen

All good accurate info above. The cushion type throwables are Coastguard exceptable and cover the law if they are not damaged. A ring in a smaller boat takes up space. The law requires these devices are EASILY accessible. Can't be in a storage locker. The inflatable pdfs are a bit pricey but very comfortable. If you go with the automatic inflatable it does require some maintanence as you have to keep the triggering system current, every couple years on mine. But should you go overboard and are unable to pull the cord for any reason they will inflate automatically when you hit the water. This might be a good idea if you fish alone at all. As already stated the flares have an exp. dates on them and MUST be current. Probably the best way to store them is in the original package, unopened. Glen

Chowder, A 1500 is a good chioce for a 2nd pump. I just added a 2nd pump this summer after an incident during the Sodus Proam. Rule makes a good pump and I went with a fully automatic pump. You definatley want to go with a 2nd outlet on the boat. It's not that much work just make sure you install it well above the water line. I can tell you from experience, a bad experience, you don't want to take shortcuts here. Heres the best prices I found on them. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=s ... &x=15&y=21 Glen

Well put Rod. I also started to think about what I could do to try and drum up new sponsors after reading Paul and Rays posts. Unfortunatly I just don't have an once of that salesmen kind of stuff in my entire body. LOL. Can't hurt to try I guess. Glen

So they should be pretty strong fish for their size then. Nice. Keep putting up the pictures if you would. Thanks Glen

Nice fish Stan. I'm jealous as all our ponds are frozen solid now. Thanks for the pictures as looking at fish pictures helps get me through the winter. One question. Are those native rainbows out there or are they stocked fish and if stocked how big are they when they put them in? Thanks Glen

Has Been wrote: Question. What do you do with the fish that are in bad shape once the box is full & you are in C&R mode? Well Has Been there just ain't that many days that I fill my box as I am mostly catch and release and keep a few of the rough ones for people at the campground to grill up. Or I'll keep a few if someone fishing with me or at home wants some meat. So that isn't much of an issue on my boat. In fact other than tournaments and a yearly trip out to the Niagara Bar I honestly don't remember the last time I kept a limit of Salmon. I think they taste kinda like swamp but many people that I know love them. Perhaps you should not worry about me and take a look at Has Been. Here is a statement made by you on a post from not so long ago regarding the 3 rod rule. Has Been wrote: When I did have it I ran 4 rods most of the time somtimes 6 on 4 riggers or board s or dipsys or whatever. My best day out with 3 of us was 54 fish on with 36 landed, with 2 kings apro 20, 4 rods. What did YOU do with those fish Has Been? Never mind answereing as I'm not that interested in hot air. Glen

Sure Walleyemagic. Don't take it personal. Just had alot of people disagree with that one idea. Everyones opinion counts. Glen

Thats a shame. Beautiful fish. Have a good winter. Glen

That is a DANDY Paul. Nice job. Did you do a mount? Any pictures you could post? Glen

Geez Rapala, Did you have to list all that? Now I'm depressed. What some people just don't get is if most rec guys are on fish and they are having some action 2 rods is plenty and alot of guys would only have 2 per out there. When the fish are scarce and spread out and you got to cover alot of water to find them is when the additional rods would make a trip more enjoyable. I don't buy this "more dead fish" crap one bit. You can do the same thing with 2 rods per man when you go into catch and release mode after the box is full. And if you know what you are doing you can release most fish in good shape. For us, the ones that are in tough shape are the ones that go into the box no matter how many rods out. Glad I didn't read that out of state thing earlier. LOL Happy fishing. Glen

should i set my dipsy rods up with wire?
spoonfed-1 replied to lakebound88's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Don't know that wire will help your landing percentage but it sure catches fish. Like anything else, the more you use it the better you get. There is a learning curve. Glen -

If questions need to be answered then i suggest we look in our own back yards for the answers first..Obviousley starting in Oswego call Dave Turner..The rule wasn't stuffed down anyone's throat it was inherrited by Oswego as part of the rule which were already in place. Lets all get our facts right before we go spilling false info all over the place..It doesnt seem to be hurting anyone right now nor in the past.. This "Inherited" rule caused a good number of boats to stop fishing the Oswego event. Look at the entry decline since this was "inhereted". In fact, guys that fished it under closed comunications, one of which already posted on the subject, feel it was "stuffed down their throats". Seems like the facts are pretty straight to me. Glen -
I run Okuma Blue Diamond roller rods 8 1/2 footers, Shimano roller rods 8 1/2 footers and Blue Diamond Dipsy rods 10 footers reg. guides for my slide divers with braid. For the wire I prefer the Shimano roller rods. Glen

Shrink tubing over the whole thing will keep you from seeing your knots. If there is a problem you won't know it until it's to late. Glen

Clarke the answere to your question is yes I can mark my weights on the 50 at all depths. The deepest I've run them is about 200 feet. The signal was weaker down there and just showed as a faint line on the screen but I could see them. As the cone angle travels deeper, the coverage area increases which probably compensated for the additional blowback. As a side note I run a thru hull airmar. The thru hull made a huge difference over the transome mount with my Furuno. Glen

I ran the fake bait while there was a GOOD King bite going on. It only produced one fish for me but it was a biggin . All three of the other rods took multiple fish. To be honest, thats the only time I tested it under those conditions and it hasn't seen much time in the water since. I've never run the whole bait but I can attest to cut bait certainly having it's days. Glen

Don't take my word for it, go here. Airmar makes most of the transducers used on fishfinders. http://airmartechnology.com/airmar2005/ ... D=3&NewID= Select product brochures from the technical information section. Then select transducer product guide. Jan, you might find what your looking for there also. If not they probably have a Tech # you could call to answere all your questions. Glen

Gill-T you might have the 50/200 cone thing backwards. I run 50 to show my downrigger weights and 200 won't pick them up. Outside of the cone. 200 gives me better detail at greater depths but narrower cone angle. Glen

It is my understanding that the rule was originally changed becuse it was to easy to cheat with todays technology. Personaly I am against the open comunication rule and don't use it. We like to win, or lose based on our own ability. Not only to catch fish but to cover water, find them and develope a plan for tournament time. Glen -
Guys my buddy told me about this boat but I don't need it. If I did I would have bought it in a second. Glen, here is the boat. It has a 2000 name on the side of it with a 1998 115hp evenrude outbord on it and wants $ 3500 just to get rid of it as she is in Fl. now and doesn't plan on coming back up here. The boat has a top and side curtins and trailer. All for the low price. Runs good !! she paid $7500 a year a go for it !! My buddys name is Fred and his phone # is 315 298 6000. He is a retired mechanic so if he says the boat runs good it does. Heres a picture. Good luck. Glen

Newbie - Buying Rods/Reels/Line for Dispsy
spoonfed-1 replied to smalltauk's topic in Tackle and Techniques
When you say for a dipsy I'm going to assume , and suggest, you want to run wire off it. If thats the case you want to get 1000 feet of a good quality 30 lb test 7 strand wire. I personally like Malin but there are other brands that I guess work equally well. Others will chime in about the different brands I'm sure. The Diawa 47 reel is a good choice for mid range price. You will also want a good quality line for the 8 foot leader off your dipsy. I like 20 lb Fluorocarbon for spoons and plugs and 30 or 40 lb test mono for flashers and flys. For the flourocarbon I like 20lb Stren and for the mono I like Ande. Again the brands are just what consistently works for me but I'm sure there are others that will work just fine. Good quality snap swivels are a must. These fish are mean and the gear takes abuse. To scrimp on quality will result in lost fish and gear. Hope that answeres some of your questions. Glen -
Happy New Year. Glen
