  1. I just ran accross a similar article in The Kingston , Ont. newspaper . I hope our lawmakers take note . http://thewhig.com/articledisplay.aspx?e=2974948
  2. I am so sorry to hear of Duanes passing. I never met him in person , but had the pleasure of many IM 's . A couple of years ago when cut bait was hard to come by on the Eastern Shore of LO , Duane sent me a dozen packs of Fish On salted cut bait and never asked for or would take a cent in payment. This man was a class act and I am truly sorry I never got to meet him in person. My sincerest condolences go out to his family . RIP ,Duane.
  3. Just got a PM on the LOU website from m_ab asking for help in Sierra Leone. The name she uses is marriam abdullah , I guess she thought this is a phishing website , not a fishing site. LOL. Anyone else getting these PM's ?
  4. This is good news. I have been advocating this move for years. There are people on our lakes who should not even be operating a rowboat, let alone a power craft capable of high speeds. You can't make people follow the rules if they don't want or care to, but at least they will know what the rules are . And that port is not just a wine. And bow is not something to shoot arrows. This measure should make boating more enjoyable and safer for us all.
  5. I just saw a trailer on tv for a National Geographic Channel documentary on the Asian Carp (Flying Carp) which is going to air on Sunday , July 18th , at 10:00 PM EDT . The preview showed people standing in the bow of a boat catching these critters with landing nets as they jumped. Looked like a good way to break an arm or fall overboard if one of these brutes hits you. Maybe we can get a handle on what these fish are all about. Looks like their entry into the great lakes is inevitable .
  6. bottom feeder, the web address is : http://www.hendersonharborny.com/waterf ... stival.htm kingslamon22, I would love to fish the derby with you. As soon as i get my schedule together I will shoot you a PM. I will probably be at S Sandy pond at that time.
  7. I would like to enter the Salmon Spectacular but I find that at that particular time I would be fishing solo. I checked the rules and find no reference to fishing solo. I have issues with the LOC derby over this , and would like clarification from Henderson Harbor on the question. I have emailed the derby but so far have not received a response. Does anyone have any info on the subject ? If I hear from derby headquarters I will post their response.
  8. I got my old schematics out and ,yes ,the pulley is held on by a 5/16 X 1" set screw. On the Unitroll HP you have to remove the pully inserts which are held onto the main pulley with phillips screws (4) ,to get to the set screw. Once you remove the set screw the shaft pulls right out. There are white plastic bushings between the shaft and pulley. You may want to replace them when you have it apart . I got drag washers and bushings from Capt. Gary's , nothing very expensive involved.
  9. My bad ,you have the other side off . I believe there is an allen screw that you have to remove to get the shaft out of the pully.
  10. Take the cover on the other side off (4 Phillips screws). The clutch and pawl are under there and the shaft comes out from that side . Check the drag washer (probably needs to be replaced ) and be sure to check the faces of the cluth washers for scoring. Pretty easy to dissasemble and put back together. Do one at a time so you have one for reference.
  11. Cost me $150.00 in T of New Haven in 2006.
  12. Are these batts. deep cycle or deep cycle/starting (dual purpose) ? I am under the impression deep cycle batts. are not good for use as starting batt. , they are made to be almost totally discharged over time ,as in electric trolling motors, before being recharged . The sudden amp demand for starting shortens their life. I have one of the Auto Zone dual purpose marine batts. , going strong into it's 4th year.
  13. Anyone have any info on the availability of cut bait (herring) on LO for this season ? Is Fish On Bait Co. still around ?
  14. Hey lostkause, any update on the Alpha 1 ? Did you get it diagnosed /
  15. I can highly recommend Magee Canvas. They are in Brewerton, which is on Onieda Lake, but they have several mobile units which visit local marinas on a regular basis. I have had several mooring covers and top/side curtins made by this company over the years and the quality is unsurpassed. Their web address is www.mageecanvas.com . If you ask around at the pond you will find nothing but good things said about this company.
  16. I'll second that. I am on my third year with an SEI replacement for my Alpha 1 GenII . It has performed as good or better than the original. With SEI you get new ,not rebuilt and a three year no questions asked warranty. You will have to determine if you need upper or lower or both. Here's the address : http://www.sterndrive.cc/index.htm
  17. Anyone who uses the Stoney Creek launch will recognize this view. The water is so low the pilings are out of the water.
  18. You should have seen the river and the village of Pulaski when snagging was permitted. It was a free for all.
  19. I fished on the St. Lawrence River last Wednesday out of Clayton . The river is at least 2' low. The marina at French Creek has 2' under the boat , it usually is 4' deep in the marina . The water marks are evident on all the docks and rocks all along the river. This is a bad situation as this is the time of year when the water is usually the highest. The marinas will be high and dry by August if we don't get some serious rain.
  20. here's another article . It seems the NYPA is still trying . They will be in Rochester on Monday to make their pitch. Hope the people there are on board the No Turbine boat . http://www.democratandchronicle.com/art ... ir-in-area
  21. I have found over the years that spring browns in shallow water are very line shy. I have flatlined with 6# line on my rods , using stickbaits and spoons, for years and landed many 10 # browns without losing gear. Light drags are a must ! For in line boards I use 12 # mainline connected to 8# floro leaders using clear plastic trolling rudders for the connection. The trolling rudders also stop the board from hitting the fish/lure. This setup works for me.
  22. I'm with spoonfed . Had many a trip ruined by 2-3 ft. forecast that ended up being honest 3-5 footers. Best way is to find a buddy with a camp on the lake and call before you go.
  23. It looks like the south and east shore of LO have been spared . Now the west end has to fight the battle. We can't let down our guard . This wind turbine push is not likely to go away. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/ ... hears.html
