  1. I got my old schematics out and ,yes ,the pulley is held on by a 5/16 X 1" set screw. On the Unitroll HP you have to remove the pully inserts which are held onto the main pulley with phillips screws (4) ,to get to the set screw. Once you remove the set screw the shaft pulls right out. There are white plastic bushings between the shaft and pulley. You may want to replace them when you have it apart . I got drag washers and bushings from Capt. Gary's , nothing very expensive involved.
  2. My bad ,you have the other side off . I believe there is an allen screw that you have to remove to get the shaft out of the pully.
  3. Take the cover on the other side off (4 Phillips screws). The clutch and pawl are under there and the shaft comes out from that side . Check the drag washer (probably needs to be replaced ) and be sure to check the faces of the cluth washers for scoring. Pretty easy to dissasemble and put back together. Do one at a time so you have one for reference.
  4. Cost me $150.00 in T of New Haven in 2006.
  5. Are these batts. deep cycle or deep cycle/starting (dual purpose) ? I am under the impression deep cycle batts. are not good for use as starting batt. , they are made to be almost totally discharged over time ,as in electric trolling motors, before being recharged . The sudden amp demand for starting shortens their life. I have one of the Auto Zone dual purpose marine batts. , going strong into it's 4th year.
  6. Anyone have any info on the availability of cut bait (herring) on LO for this season ? Is Fish On Bait Co. still around ?
  7. Hey lostkause, any update on the Alpha 1 ? Did you get it diagnosed /
  8. I can highly recommend Magee Canvas. They are in Brewerton, which is on Onieda Lake, but they have several mobile units which visit local marinas on a regular basis. I have had several mooring covers and top/side curtins made by this company over the years and the quality is unsurpassed. Their web address is www.mageecanvas.com . If you ask around at the pond you will find nothing but good things said about this company.
  9. I'll second that. I am on my third year with an SEI replacement for my Alpha 1 GenII . It has performed as good or better than the original. With SEI you get new ,not rebuilt and a three year no questions asked warranty. You will have to determine if you need upper or lower or both. Here's the address : http://www.sterndrive.cc/index.htm
  10. Anyone who uses the Stoney Creek launch will recognize this view. The water is so low the pilings are out of the water.
  11. You should have seen the river and the village of Pulaski when snagging was permitted. It was a free for all.
  12. I fished on the St. Lawrence River last Wednesday out of Clayton . The river is at least 2' low. The marina at French Creek has 2' under the boat , it usually is 4' deep in the marina . The water marks are evident on all the docks and rocks all along the river. This is a bad situation as this is the time of year when the water is usually the highest. The marinas will be high and dry by August if we don't get some serious rain.
  13. here's another article . It seems the NYPA is still trying . They will be in Rochester on Monday to make their pitch. Hope the people there are on board the No Turbine boat . http://www.democratandchronicle.com/art ... ir-in-area
  14. I have found over the years that spring browns in shallow water are very line shy. I have flatlined with 6# line on my rods , using stickbaits and spoons, for years and landed many 10 # browns without losing gear. Light drags are a must ! For in line boards I use 12 # mainline connected to 8# floro leaders using clear plastic trolling rudders for the connection. The trolling rudders also stop the board from hitting the fish/lure. This setup works for me.
  15. I'm with spoonfed . Had many a trip ruined by 2-3 ft. forecast that ended up being honest 3-5 footers. Best way is to find a buddy with a camp on the lake and call before you go.
  16. It looks like the south and east shore of LO have been spared . Now the west end has to fight the battle. We can't let down our guard . This wind turbine push is not likely to go away. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/ ... hears.html
  17. This is very troubling . $450 million in Obama's stimulus money will go to a Chinese company to build wind turbines that will be used in the great lakes. This is just wrong ! The stimulus money is OUR money, donated by you and I in the form of taxes. To think that the money will be used to put chinese to work goes against the grain. This is a result of the panic that the power authorities are generating to get their agenda passed without a lot of scrutiny. We need a time out and slow things down so that all the options are on the table. Ther is NO reason that wind turbine's cannot be built in the US. Let the Chinese build plants in America to build turbines used in the states. I am still very much opposed to putting a wind farm on or in any of the Great Lakes, but I am afraid that alternative energy is needed and will be a fact of life in the future. We need to keep our collective eye on the progress of this change and fight for what we know is right.
  18. It is my understanding that a license has already been granted to build a fourth nuclear reactor at Nine Mile Point. The only reason that I can see to build a windfarm on Lake O is to supply power downstate. The folks on the south shore of Long Island defeated a proposed off shore wind farm . They want the power without the turbines . Let us deal with the pollution both visual and material.
  19. I really can't understand how the politicians can allow a Spanish company (Iberdrola) to own power generation facilities in America . I have been told that National Grid's headquarters are in Great Britain . I would think power generation and delivery would come under national security and be looked after by homeland security. I guess the headlines I have been reading are true . The United States really is FOR SALE .
  20. I found a good source for 150# coated cable at Stamina.com. I replaced the 135 # cable that came with my SNT with it 3 years ago and it's still going strong .
  21. It appears that the Galoo Island wind farm is not a done deal after all . the town of Henderson is suing the town of Hounsfield to stop the project. Here is the news item: http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/83717322.html
  22. Skipper, The MY on the poll is still a mystery. I contacted Newzjunky about the link and was not furnished with any information about the author, only the fact that the poll has been removed. Maybe it was a scam or phishing trip , the syntax and spelling led me to believe the author did not use english as their first language. It may have been the developer , it is my understanding they are not American. There is a link on the site that states that the PILOT is going to the full legislature and lists the politicians by name that either favor or oppose the project.
  23. I just found a forum on a news website in Watertown that is asking for support for the Galoo island windfarm complete with false claims. Please go to http://www.newzjunky.com and scroll down to the link . You are able to vote for or against the project and add your comments. My comments will probably not go on any public forum anytime soon !! Please log on and VOTE Against this before it gets public support. There are a lot of people that read these lies and don't even have an idea where or what Galoo Island is. The link says "support Galoo Island windfarm" . Just a little P.S. I went back and read this pack of lies through a couple of times and the author really needs to learn how to spell . I will try and find out who is behind this item by contacting newzjunky . I am contacting any and all the folks I know who winter away from the lake to get them to vote.
  24. LongLine, An awesome letter. Very well written and researched . I am glad we have you on our side!!
