  3. That's Schneiders 'lil salmon inn Right Cross from Mike's marina on 104B Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. How about Schneider's on 104B ,right by the launch . Great breakfast when we get blown off . And pub menu for lunch and dinner .
  5. I almost forgot about our first sortie into high tech The "Combinator " first temp probe we heard of came from a company in NC . Even worked sometimes . But what a pain in the azz .Fredon's brought back memories , bought my first rivieras from them ,great tackle shop . We would fish the "boil" at Nine Mile in the very early spring (March) ,Slide a 16 ft aluminum boat down the ice covered ramp at Wright's landing and run down to the nuke plant . Back then you could run right tight to shore at Nine mile , no exclusion bouys and no terrorists . We always caught fish flatlining through the outfalls at NM1 and Fitzpatrick . On a side note , anybody remember duck hunting in Oswego Harbor ? We used to hunt for divers the second half of duck season. Bluebills ,Whistlers , lots of mergansers , even shot a Woodie off the West wall one day . Coasties used to have a heart attack , we were out there in -10 degree weather in a 14 ft mirrocraft with a 7 1/2 horse Honda motor . Ah ,the good old days .
  6. I remember the day .Started chasing salmon and browns in the late 70's LOL We had Riviera downriggers ( not exactly state of the art ) ,Used mostly Luhr jensen dodgers with squid . No line counter reels or downrigger rods . Had a 21 ' Starcraft Mariner with 175 horse Evinrude on the back ,wish I still owned that boat .I agree that bigger (and better numbers ) seemed to be the norm in the 80's .There were also 3 times as many fishermen . and combat fishing was the norm .I've seen many battles fought over perceived transgressions .We also had a Lowrance paper graph ,which replaced the flasher .Replacing paper and stylus was a full time job, lol . I still have a supply of Northport nailers , the go to spoon . Little cleos were also very much in use . Snagging was legal and the banks of the Salmon River were shoulder to shoulder with " fishermen " throwing 2/0 weighted trebles . That was something to watch LOL . The salmon did a great job of cleaning up the mooneyes (alewives) which would wash up on the beach after the annual die off and be 6 inches deep .They also cleaned up the Smelt ,we could go to Selkirk during the run and fill the back a pickup with great eating fish .No more . Lake O has seen many changes over the years , Some good and some not so good . I still love chasing the salmon and hope the fishery is still there for my son .
  7. Make sure you get the biting fly formula from Buggspray . Only thing I have found that works on the stable flies . I don't know how anything so small can bite so hard .
  8. thanks Sk8man , Glass factory was going to be my first stop . Hope to hook up with a few slob perch . Fishing at Henderson has been poor to non existent lately . We hit them on the St. Lawrence a couple of weeks ago , but it's getting late up there .
  9. I would like to bring my 83 year old buddy down to fish for perch (his favorite fish ) . We are coming from Watertown on July 6th or 7th , and would appreciate any info that you could provide . I have fished the LT derby many times but never chased the big perch . We will buy bait and launch at Roy's . Thanks in advance for your help . Mark
  10. Always a radio check as soon as I'm on the lake . But ,never on channel 16 ,which is the hailing and emergency channel . Pick a recreational channel (68 or 72) for your check . Most boaters will reply as a courtesy . And don't ask the CG for a check they will ignore you unless you are on 16 , then they will tell you to shift your idle chatter to a different channel .
  11. Patriot , you said it all. RD herring strips were the bomb. They are still available in Canada. They had to blame VHS on something other than the ships using the seaway Have had success with Erie Dearie I just went to Fat Nancy's and stocked up. Thanks for the tip Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. I am a huge fan of cut bait fishing and am having a hard time finding Rhys-Davis large teaser heads . Anyone have a handle on why they are hard to come by and any info on suppliers would be much appreciated .
  13. Here we go again !! This article has a lot of flaws . I am a resident of the area and all the people I have spoken with were against the power transmission lines . This is the first time I have heard of no buyers for the power. Now they have scaled down ( for now ) the number of turbines . Remember the story of the camel getting his nose under the tent ? They now want to run the transmission line underwater to Oswego county . Then what ? They will need power lines from there . Having lodging and food service and work boats ( and nose to tail semis to haul all the turbines ) using the public dock at Henderson Harbor will seriously affect the boat launch at that site . I for one will be there to vote NO to this assault . One thing of note : these developers are targeting Sacketts Harbor for economic incentives . Maybe starting a war between Henderson and Sacketts ? http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/Another-Wind-Project-Proposed-For-Galloo-Island-292257531.html
  14. The problem I encountered with the Convectors was line leakage when the rods were loaded in the riggers . Unless the drag was reefed down to lock ,the line would creep out a click or 2 at a time . Okuma replaced the drag washers with the Catalina washers and they have been great since .
  15. Okuma has always had issues with their drags . I bought Convectors ( CV ) when they first came out and the drags were terrible . Okuma took them back and upgraded the drags . They are great now ,but it took a lot of time and effort to get them that way .I have 12 convectors (all upgraded by Okuma for free ) and will go with another brand as they die .
  16. Glad you got the link to work . Fishing has been slow and it looks to get worse .

  18. The Gov is finding out what fishers have known for years . The NWS and NOAA are full of s--- . http://www.nydailynews.com/newyork/cuomo-pushes-enhanced-weather-system-new-york-article-1.2028068
  19. 40 + years of fishing on Lake O has taught me " What you see is what you get " NOAA is a guide and is right only some of the time . I add 1' to their forecast wave height IE: 1 to 3 becomes 2 to 4 .
  20. A long as they don't enforce the exercise area (impact area) so the can play with their M60's or 240's or whatever they have . That would put a definite crimp on the fishing grounds .
  21. Here is a report of a body found on Brennan's beach . http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2014/08/body_found_on_brennans_beach_on_lake_ontario_near_pulaski.html#incart_m-rpt-2
  22. A big roger that on the lake trout . Fished solo today from 6:30 to 2:30 . Went straight to 150fow north of the pond and trolled south to my old king salmon waypoints . Caught and released 8 lakers , all caught on meat and white flasher and glow white twinkie . Had a chrtreuse/green on the other rigger and never moved that rod . Also ran wire dipsey with several different spoons without a touch . The white on whitie was hot . The probe rigger (chartreuse) was showing 41 degree water at 79 ft. with 102 ft. of cable out . I ran the white on white rigger with 126 ft of cable out (guessing 80 something ft. ) with less drag without probe . Marked fish all over Mexico Bay at depths from 60ft to bottom and several large bait balls with marks under them . NO kings !! This is always prime time in that area for salmon . Went out to 300fow and back in .
  23. I hope they show up . They were late last year and later this year . I would really like to hear what the DEC and fishery biologists have to say about the lack of mature Kings . They have been very quiet . Is VHS a factor ? Is the fishery crashing ? Come on NY state , A little imput please .
  24. There are so many Ugly Stick variations . The rods I use are BWD110170 . They are 7' 2 piece ,medium action and rated for 10-25 lb. test line . They have longer grips than the regular casting rods . I find these rods easier to rig and handle than 8'6" rods ( I still have about a dozen long rods sitting in my cellar , I started out with the long rods ) . I also have and use a few 8' rods that I like .But the 7 footers have won me over . I liked the Penn Power Sticks ,but they are discontinued .
