  1. I would also get rid of the salt block as you may be attracting them to your property, then they start eating other things. Then would trap/dispose of them, most wildlife that is damaging your property or person you are allowed to dispatch. Predator urine might work also, but would have to reapply after rains. I could recommend a few guys with their dogs but they might want you to pay the vet bill. A few of them cannot get their dogs to stop going after porcupines.
  2. I have a depth raider which came with my boat. I love knowing down speed and temp and believe I have caught more fish as a result. Downside is dealing with coated cable, which gets beat up and at times you have to pour water or have a wet rag on the sensor for it to work. Every few trips I have to cut off some of the wire on the downrigger that gets chewed up and reattach the connections for the rigger ball, just because the sheath is missing or pretty beat up. If I were to buy one I would go with fish hawk since you don't need any special wire or the smart troll but it is kind of out of my price range. That is my next upgrade on my boat is to sell the depth raider and buy a fish hawk. But I need to wait till next year as I got a terrova this year. And the SO will only let me get away with one big purchase per year.
  3. Last weekend we got 3 on brown trout candy, the short shallow one. Fishusa has been having sales on them also. I agree with others and have not been impressed with cabelas in Cheektowaga's selection in the fishing dept. I thought they would have some stock so you can actually see something in person. Often I have a list of what I want to look at and end up at Dicks or Gander or going online. I think they are catering to the bass guys as you can find a ton of bass stuff. Even though they are close to erie they still don't seem to have the walleye stuff I go to look at.

  7. I was out in my friends boat also. We ended up 6 for 8, I think. I now we got 6 in the boat cant remember how many total hit that got off but was only a few. We were in 10-12 ft. Got them on black silver rapala, brown trout candy bay rat and one on a spoon not sure the name but was black on the side with some orange.
  8. First one like others said is fat head minnow or it's new pc name of large cranium minnow.
  9. Fully agree with all. Rick's hummingbird tutorials have help me maybe get close to maximum usage on my fishfinder.
  10. Like others have said prices go up. They are great weights and great service so I would not have an issue with the price going up. I would rather his go up to keep him happy then for him to stop making them.

  17. They only stock pheasants for the first couple of weeks of the season, there are a few remaining pheasants here and there though. Like others said probably best spot is Tonawanda and oak orchard with Iroquois NWR between them. Iroquois needs a permit but all it is a piece of paper you sign and keep with you. Lots of spots to hunt. A friend of mine works at Iroquois and he saw a pheasant just the other day.
  18. Humminbird 597 not saving settings I have a hummingbird 597 set up for ice fishing but every time I turn it off with the power button it resets to the previous settings. I use this unit as a GPS only in the boat. I have 2 597s as one came with the boat when I bought it and had the other on my old boat and save it. But every time I turn the unit on I have to go through all the settings from turning the sonar on to the advanced mode, etc. I have tried researching it but have not found anything other than I may need to update, last update was last spring/summer I think. I have also used this in the summer on a Canada trip as I have a spare transducer and had the same issue there with the settings. I am getting good at remembering the settings but its a pain. TIA
  19. I use my walleye rigs which have 12 lb but like others add a flouro leader in 10 or 12. Distance behind the ball can also depend on water clarity. I was in some dirty water and only had a 40 ft off the ball and saw a brown hit the spoon.
  20. Like others have said its doable if you pick your days, watch the weather and run in if you don't feel safe. I used to go out in a 12 footer but always had oak orchard creek to fish as a back up, then went to a 16 alumacraft that got me out further. The beam width was narrow on the alumacraft and in some waves you got thrown around. If it was a 16 ft with wide beam like the starcraft in the pics above would be your best bet. East end of Ontario is worse for waves than the west end, going out of I bay you should be ok, I fish Erie a lot now and really have to pick my days. I now have a 176 starcraft superfisherman with wide beam and it is a lot better in the waves than the narrower boat.
  21. If I redid mine this what I would do. Mainly use the canopy when the wife is with me (she likes to fish so I deal with the canopy)otherwise I think its in the way and don't use it much. For fishing Erie I have to watch west/sw winds. Ontario depends on where you launch. I have been out in 3-4 ft waves and felt ok but that is probably pushing it. It also depends on the wave frequency (distance between waves).
  22. I have a 2001 176 superfisherman. I like it a lot, only real drawback is if you troll a lot in crappy weather the back deck area may be a pain. One of my riggers is set a little back and its somewhat harder to work with when choppy out. Rigger is set back further due to canopy suppost. Also netting fish you need a longer net handle to get to the fish. But it is a compromise as I fish smaller lakes and perch fair amount also.
  23. Yeah told him to take it in and see if it was chipped. I have not heard anything more about it from him nor have talked to him in a bit so not real sure what the outcome was.
