  1. Saw a few doe at first light and then this yote was creeping around ....he came in to me making a kissing sound
  2. this wide old six strolled through last night at 548pm and i got this new buck on camera during the pouring rain Tuesday night
  3. Lake side for sure had a solid hour of shooting ....haven't even shouldered our guns at our spot
  4. Hunting braddocks bay .... A lot of sky busting going on ...should of went to the deer stand
  5. Just got in from the stand. Saw 8 total all doe with little ones and heard a young buck grunting up a storm. Also saw nice looking yote at about 60yards,tried calling him in with a kissing sound but no luck.
  6. If you want to stay inexpensive look for bows that are sold under the store brand but made by a top manufacturer...dicks has bows called like "rack attack" but the bow is made by Martin which is a good company. They are usually $399 ready to shoot. Cabelas does the same thing. Your accessories are generally basic but you can always upgrade next season. You'll save maybe $100-$200 and still have a reliable bow . Mission also offers nice bows that don't break the bank
  7. I hung a new stand last week due to the deer getting in the one area later and less chance to spook them. I was pumped last night to smoke a big buck in the am until I double checked the regs last depressing to say the least . Ive had 3 bucks grunting up a storm so far and nothing but does with baby's in range Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Good thing in the the great New York State you can't keep a firearm on you while bow hunting. A small .22 pistol would have got you two nice coyote mounts. That's a great story though Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Congrats that's a nice buck Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. I hit the woods today, however I myself seemed to lack the excitement knowing I could only shoot a doe. But i love every day of hunting so I'll keep going out regardless if I agree with the new rule or not(which I don't). I will take the time to fill out my DEC survey that came in the mail about observations while hunting. Anyone else get one ? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Hunt the weekdays and it's a ghost town or launch a boat and drive to the opposite side to have the place to your self. I've small game hunted it a lot and deer only a handful. However a friend solely hunts hemlock with great success for deer Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. I found one the response e-mails I received Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. I had one on camera two winters ago in Alfred. I emailed the DEC the picture and asked a few questions. I was told In the southern tier the population was starting to rebound. They also wanted to know what kind of habitat he was in and a general area. I guess they are working with colleges and trying to put a study together as well they several hair traps to get a better estimate on their range and numbers. I though it was nice to hear some feed back Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. I have a few younger bucks on camera that just started light sparring with in the last couple days. About half are still in velvet Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. If the DEC did a doe only weekend, they would have more participation in lowering the herd. Here is 3 reasons why I won't tromp through the woods the first two weeks in my one spot .... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. I grabbed an 8C tag last week at gander no problem Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I've got a place in Alfred and a few spots along the lake as well. I must say I love the big woods feel of down south but the deer just don't compare . I may have one shooter in Alfred maybe every 2 years and 5 to 6 shooters up by the lake each year. Obviously the population is in better shape up north but it gets hard to drive an hour and a half to see a 3 pointer. My odds are far higher than heading south. Now I've seen a lot of big bucks come from the south but its limited compared to the lake side. To play devils advocate my uncle has 120 acres south of letchworth that is beautiful mature woods that is surrounded by two med size ag farms ,now if I go there I see big deer Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I actually have had the same rage broad heads for a few years and just buy replacement blades when need be. I can't find any rinkity parts on them Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I'm not big on gimmicks and I think anyone who try's conquest would be happy with the product. I believe the deer like due to how natural of smell it is. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Conquest scents have worked wonders over every scent I've used. It's comes in a deodorant stick form. It can be pricey depending on which scent you choose to buy. I always buy the evercalm "yellow stick "which is purely a bedding scent. The advantage that I have scene is that scent seems to put the deer at ease while in the area of the scent. I've had many spooked deer or tail up and blowing run into the area with the scent and calm right down and begin foraging again. I think the success is in the simplicity, it simply smells like a deer. I use about half of a stick in a season and it still holds the smell for next season. I'd say for the price it worth it's weight in gold. I have not tried the estrus scent but I'm sure I works just as well Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. I was just at my place across from Carlton island. The wife and i fished 3days straight and only caught one nice small smallie. 18FOW drifting. I ended up going to an old go to weapon pink jig with a white mister twister tipped with a small piece of worm. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I swear by rage broad heads. I generally don't shot over 30yards and have never lost a deer with them. I do hear the claims of them not passing through, but I've never had an issue and my bow is not cranked up. I won't be switching anytime soon. However if I were to switch I hear great reviews on the G5 fixed blades. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. At least we can all save $$$$ on trail camera batteries...no point to check them for an early season pattern. Hopefully this guy grows a little more and doesn't get arrowed before the 15th. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Here's my thought, the majority of people will now skip the first two weeks of bow and the last week of muzzleloader. The doe harvest numbers will mimic last years and we'll be in the same boat. Now I am by no means a trophy hunter, but I'm not going blow a good set to shoot a doe when on oct 16th I can shoot a doe if I so choose. What I think would of been a better idea if they needed to make their change was maybe a week of doe only say October 15-21 during the so called lull period. Bottom line everyone I've talked to was not happy with the change I also wonder how many bucks will be shot in the first two weeks and tagged as if they were shot else where Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. The only time I see a good amount of birds is on the way to my cottage in the islands. Usually once I'm past Oswego I see a good amount, certainly more than around Rochester area. I also can't think of more than one friend that goes after birds in the fall. Hopefully the birds will make a rebound Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
