    I just drop one end of ratchet strap down through handle with tiller handle then tighten up. Not a big deal. I’ve always used a safety strap on my kickers and I’ve had kickers for 15+ years. Last thing you want in rough weather is gear flopping around -good way to have “bad” things happen.

    Have no issues-I just lay motor towards big motor then ratchet strap to boat transom. Been running that way since boat was rigged in 2008.

    Maybe using smaller level winds and short rods would help a younger person with a rigger rod? Spinning reels are prone to line twist when downrigging among other issue’s. IMO big boards with releases are easier for less experienced people to deal with and land fish vs in lines. I find for young kids that more hands on options are best-my four year old grandson is going to visit me from Washington in August and I’ll have him on a weed line with worms. Trolling trip we’ll wait.

    On my Chautauqua trips I get kids, woman and some men with limited fishing experience. These trips are primarily for walleye and I use light spinning gear. I use “rod in hand” tactics so they can feel the bite. I jig, use blade baits and slow troll worm harness. I use quite a few artificial baits but always have worms on board so kids can get action. For walleye and bass on inland water IMO I’d use other tactics than downrigging especially for folks with limited experience. There is nothing like seeing a kid land their first walleye.

    I have the PR-300’s and bought a kit a couple years ago to upgrade them to the APR-300’s. Big difference between the plastic reels vs the aluminum reels. The plastic reels and the handles were a bit awkward to operate. They were a struggle to bring boards in at times. Aluminum reels work well for my boards which are homemade to fit in my rear live well for storage. I’ve not used Otter Boats or Amish boards so I don’t know how my boards compare on pull. I was considering going electric, but have been real happy with the APR-300’s.

    If the road/trail is rough enough to rip off truck running boards, I’d leave my boat and trailer home. Why tear your stuff up? IMO not enough difference in a 14 to 16 footer to take a chance tearing a trailer up or knocking rivets loose in a boat.

    My 6 amp won’t keep up. The amp rating is from higher rpm than what engine runs at trolling speed so you don’t see rated amps. I put a trickle charger on to keep batteries fully charged. Using high speed riggers and fishing deep take some juice. When I update my kicker I’ll go for more amps.

    They still have 50’s for $149 this morning-not in bargain cave-regular fishing section under trolling reels. No 30’s listed and 40’s are regular price. With Bass Pro owning them likely some different vendor and stocking going to happen.

    Looks like Lund has several Rebel models. The Rebel XS has a double plated bow while the Rebel 1600 is a single. Really need to follow LakerTaker’s advice and layout specs on each model you are pricing. The double plated bow is worth considering. Heavier material thickness will show in boat weight.

    Seems to have a different flash. Think you would need to rig and let out carefully especially off a rigger. Agree with Hard Knox that a fly would need something like their action disc to get movement. This might not pull hard especially compared to a big flasher. The stores in Washington have big selections of flashers in style and size with a complete aisle taken up. Spoons on the other hand will be just a small section. Meat is big out there. Thinking this flasher could be interesting off a copper with a spoon.

    Looks like the “Smart Fish Flasher” shows as discontinued on Dreamweaver site. You may try EBay or some of the shops for old stock. Angler’s Avenue and Fish USA could be good places to check. I’ve seen them but never ran any. Hope you find what you want.

    Lake Erie United has a Hot Spot Map feature that gives you depth contours and harbor details. Many of the same people that are on LOU use LEU as well. In 2017 LEU had pretty up to date info on fishing around Dunkirk. LEU is a newer site, but it is likely to grow in popularity.

    Use braid for backing-mono takes up too much room and has stretch problem. Braid costs a bit more, but lasts longer. I have quite a few SG57LC3 - paid around $100 or less for them on sale. Seagate are close to that. IMO the place to put your money is in the reel- you can use a lower price rod for leadcore. The more expensive reels have better drags and more ball bearings. Smooth drags are critical especially if you fish Lake Ontario. Good reels last for years.

    47 size reel too small for 10 color. Also a high speed reel makes a big difference as well. I use Saltist 50LC's with Tuffline Microlead and have been happy with that combo. The Daiwa Seagate series would give high speed and capacity. Reel with 330 to 350 yd 30lb capacity will handle it. I ran Penn 330's for years on 10 colors and only downside was the low retrieve ratio. I like a linecounter to repeat setback but counting passes on a non linecounter gets you close.

    I have a 9.9 Yamaha on my Proline 25 Walk and it has plenty of power. The only issue I have is the 6 amp alternator (rated @ wot) doesn't keep up on battery charge especially when fishing deep riggers. When I update I'll look for higher rated alternator which might mean going to 15hp. Seems high speed riggers draw more juice than the old slow riggers.

    Adventure Marine has a good one. I have been real happy with mine. Powder coated with a plastic insert for kicker to attach to.

    IMO the presentation will be effected more by what you run on the end of the copper/lead. Light spoon like a DW Super slim will run like it is on lead. A big Mag spoon or flasher fly will run more like it is on straight copper. The main reason I've added lead to copper was to speed up getting short coppers set on boards when running a light spoon. Fixes a speed issue/deployment thing for me more than a presentation advantage. Under certain conditions the hybrids do perform well-more of an early season setup.
