Lowrance HDS-7 Marks Bottom and Bait balls but no fish hooks
NitroMusky replied to gpiatt's topic in This Old Boat
Stupid question but did that transducer come with the finder? Sometimes in swapping ducers, they are only partially compatable I.e. Is HDS 7 compatable with a dual beam or 50khz?? [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -
I've heard of using a jet diver behind a board, though it won't run as far to the side with that drag on it as normal, even a small dipsy pulls harder than that though and probably wouldn't track to the side well at all. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Lake Chautauqua, no sign of fish :X

Time will tell, Larry. -
Mike, Sol said he's willing to do the auction (think he said he had a few to put up), so just need to get the baits rounded up. Give him a jingle. Lmk if u need his digits Zach- this one will be a club fundraiser, not the bait fund. I'm sure a baker or two will be a huge boost to the lot value! Thanks [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Careful, depending on how your trailer sits, if the tongue is higher than the caliper, air could be working its way back up the line and defeating your efforts to rebleed [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

A come-along tied to the trailer frame on one side, and run across the nose of the coupler and tied back to the frame on the other side of the boat works well to compress and hold the actuator in and allows you to do it all as a 1 man job. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Aside from the riggers being slow, by first inclination would be a faulty starter switch [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Not sure how true this is but I've read that large pike will behave differently than small ones, and will go deeper in the summer, towards colder water. Not sure how applicable this would be to a river system where the water is mixing, or to St Law specifically which has relatively cooler Lk O water coming in, but point being: you may indeed need to look to different types of areas than you're currently fishing. Could be holding in deeper water using the slack water behind humps or even chasing baitfish in open water. Check it out and let us know what you find [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

question about sonar/gps unit and navionics cards
NitroMusky replied to dremarquis's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
It gets a heck of lot more detailed than that...if you zoom in on the fishfinder you can get it to show every one ft contour break on cndga, since its mapped in HD [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -
question about sonar/gps unit and navionics cards
NitroMusky replied to dremarquis's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
You want to add the navionics map chips. Seneca lake (along with a few of the other larger lakes locally) were surveyed (foot by foot) by navionics, so the depth and coordinates are basically spot on. [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -
question about sonar/gps unit and navionics cards
NitroMusky replied to dremarquis's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
The use of intentional error was discontinued over a decade ago (which was one of the factors leading to LORAN system being dismantled). Error is generally no more than 10 ft on modern units (and most times even less). That small remaining error is due to signal degredation and atmospheric issues etc. If its more than that, chances are the WAAS error correction may be turned off or you haven't acquired enough satellites yet. With the HD maps, navionics are quite accurate. The non-HD are just govt or DEC maps overlaid and tend to be off in both contour and their placement on the map (sometimes shows me navigating up on shoreline ). Wish they were all HD... Red flag! Red flag! Think that should be your first and last clue that its time to find another agent. One thing to not want to give you $, but when they won't even take your $... [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

I wouldn't go near that place on 7/3 any year unless I was around a campfire with a beer in hand... The ring of fire is a big event and will be a zoo [ Post made via BlackBerry ] -

NitroMusky replied to Finders Keepers's topic in Ice fishing
Not for anything but how does one fish for pike on chautauqua lake in the winter? For one, there aren't enough pike even in there to consider it a pike fishery. Second, even if one were to target them, you're liable to catch muskies, which in a lake that doesn't have pike is tantamount to targeting muskies and would get you a ticket by the DEC. Someone needs to rethink that one. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
