  1. I fish solo a lot and even when i dont, most fish are netted along side with the boat slowed to idle and the rigger boom swept back. Granted im fishing an 18' aluminum. Head first, quick swipe witha big net....and heres the key....pull the the net back and let the pressure off the rod so the fish drops into the bag. Then grab the hoop and up in the boat. I only net off the stern with someone experienced so they dont drop the net into the prop. This year ill be running a kicker so that will let me net off the stern on the non kicker side. 2. must have been a quick sale, couldn't find it unfortunately
  3. Sorry to hear your problems. I had an 18pro that i fished for 4 seasons. I thought it was great. Screws were a little short on the side storage panel hinges....my only real complaint. I knew before buying the gunnels weren't strong enough for riggers except back by the transom. Great price tho. Sold it last year and bought the starcraft fishmaster i originally wanted but that switch was for size. Anyway i caught a lot of fish on that boat and I hope they work it out for you with yours. I really liked the product i had but i accepted that the lower cost came with a price in some quality and finish. Leaks and assembly issues do stink though and fortunately i didnt have that problem. 4. with all of this said. Who you are fishing with matters a lot too. You have Fishing solo, fishing with guest(s) who know their sh**, guests who at least don't get in the way and guests who make it harder than fishing solo.
  5. Good luck! I'm running a Yamaha 150 and it has been great. While it hurts now you'll feel better in the long run. I'm sure the Lund you have is a champ. Great boats and the older ones were the better ones from what I understand! It just needs a trustworthy motor to push.
  6. If its not reliable I don't want anything to do with it on Lake O. A new motor or new-er good running motor otherwise you are just going to be someone else's problem when you expect a tow. a 20 year old known to be problematic motor with issues that can't be solved and mechanics that won't touch it!?. I can't run fast enough. On this lake, better to have a small reliable boat with small HP than a large POS with a bigger HP POS.
  7. I went to this last year after seeing the post here in the open lake discussion area. I came from NJ which was a bit of drive but think the seminar and show were worth it and am going back again. I'm just posting @Instigator original post below to float it back to the top in this category since I thought it was worth it and ran across it here last year about now.
  8. Nice! I just picked one up a few weeks ago for winter install. Glad to see your post Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. I ran last year in a 17.5 and half the time running solo and caught plenty of fish. As mentioned you just have to pick your days Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. how long did you get on them before needing to do the work you did? Guess I'm just asking if they were original. Also, what was your sign that it was time to deal with them? I just bought a boat with a new dual axel shoreland'r only has brakes on the rear axle. Trailer brakes are new for me so I took notice of your post and the paint thing (I'm going to look at what the rotors look like later today). While I have time I know maintenance is coming eventually. I wish I didn't have to deal with them but stopping is pretty important to me so....

  14. I fish the river and lake and i can say that 2012 (if i remember the year right) was fascinating with the clipped salmon and what we saw when on clipped vs non clipped. I hav wished every year since that they kept that up. What showed up when wasnt any kind of 50/50 40/60 even 30/70 mix....it was stark contrast. Id love to gage volume of each year to year. 15. Im endlessly entertained by random comments of nothingness. Right. Upstate ny would crumble without NYC and Westchester. Sure, i know this as fact because i saw them constructing the cash pipeline last week. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. for me....asking myself the same questions you are. Not enough. If I had a large glass boat that I was putting a through hull on 10 feet up from the transom perhaps I'd think differently.
  17. I just bought an hds 9 carbon with total scan transducer for 1699 as they are clearing them out. I wanted to go airmar but saw just enough online commentary expressing difficulty to make me decide to go with the total scan and dip a toe i to the airmar at another time. 18. Sorry, its sold now but thanks. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Generally no 10' to 2' scenarios, but water level, size and draft depth of your boat and how close you are going to grind yourself along the shore will make this a tougher question to answer. I can generally say there are two areas to consider. 1) to the right of the boat launch inlet (when going out). There are pin bouys there (usually) marking high rocks....how high I'm not sure....I avoid them (haha). Also, I understand Catfish creek (if you use that inlet) is funky and has some sudden shallow stuff right in by the mouth. I don't use that place so I can't say fully. otherwise you are fine. As good practice, if you are going to be right along the beach don't run on plane. You can easily move just a little offshore and run at speed there going to-from Mexico point.

  21. I should say i have an st1622 i built from scratch id sell you for $100 shipped if interested. Silicone carbide guides....titanium snake guides on the upper 5 guides, fixed carbon reel seat & some added weight i put in the butt to help balance it better .....again only if you are interested Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I dont have one but id recommend the 11' 3" model. Assuming they still make it but i love that one. Its great with a spinning reel as an alternate and light as hell to hold. Both reasons is why i love it. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
