  1. If you connect the riggers to the first battery in the series you will get 12 volts ,but if you connect to the second one it will be 24. As for wiring up your cannon riggers, The riggers themselves should come with wiring that has a special plug and a second piece of wiring that has the receiving end of that special plug and this should have the fuses installed inline. These plugs are made so they are water thight..From these wires you can run 12 or 10 gauge wire to your battery and you can use wiring cord that is normally used for outside in your garden or the heavy duty yellow construction cable. I buy the yellow heavy duty construction cords which I buy at Lowes and then cut to the size I need. This gives me very good water protection and usually, this way you get it cheaper than when you buy individual lines.
  2. There are lots of early kings this year. It may be the result of last year's easy winter which probably increased survival rates and size.
  3. Those gulls are mean buggers!
  4. So we went out of I-Bay at 6 AM for a shake down on my Islander (Engine runs great, thank you Hank!) .The day started with a flat tire right on the ramp. After that was fixed we went east. There was some nice water in front of the bay with good temps but after one small brown and then nothing we went east towards Hedges. The water temp dropped down to 40 and stayed there until we closed in on Webster park where it went up to 45 but by then the place had been fished out. So we decided to go deep and look for lakers. Out we went to 150 feet and set up for lakers with flashers and flies, running at about 1.7 mph. After about 15 minutes and a good swig of beer one of the riggers popped and game was on,but not a laker. It turned out to be a very hard fighting and beautiful female king(Queen?) She took 4 runs and 20 minutes until she gave up. She weighed in at 20.5 pounds and so made up for a too quiet morning. Shortly afterwards the wind picked up and we decided to call it a day. My new Sitex svs 650 fishfinder turned out to be very nice indeed. With the airmar p66 on the transom right next to the fish hawk ducer I had good readings at 25mps. The 600 watt unit is very energy hungry,so much so that I had the main engine running to prevent the battery from going flat. Cornelis
  5. That pinion gear has 2 serial numbers 0311189 and the number that superceeded it which is 0318447. The number you need is 0318447. You can get this pinion gear online for about $18.
  6. The 2 part epoxy is a bit pricey but it will seal the wood for at least ten years and probably 20. Whenever I rebuild a transom that is the stuff to use.
  7. I use Interstate both as cranking and deep cycle. I just tested mine and they are good to go for their 4th season.
  8. Thank you for making the effort. I just read all the rules and it states clearly what you just told me. My apologies for asking first instead of reading first. Cornelis.

  11. Now why did you have to that? I had just started a conversation with him and I explained that I really want to be his beneficiary, but in order to able to release any money he was going to have to send me $15000 in bank release and maintenance costs. The money to be deposited in my Swiss bank account. I was really looking forward to his answer.
  12. Yes I do love those and I buy them fresh whenever I visit the old country.
  13. Thanks for the post Vince. You are completely right in what you say and I have no problem with whatever rule or regulation there is. It is just that in this case, the docking points are much farther apart (15 miles) than the distance between Wilson and Olcot (6 miles). No matter what the rules are, we will stick to them and enjoy the fun of meeting people and competing. Heck,if we're not careful we might even win.
  14. Thank you for the answer Tom,but it does not answer my question. I'll put it in a different way. Is there any rule or regulation that forbids me to start the day in the Little Salmon River ,but end it by running into the Oswego Harbor as long as I am within the time constrictions? Cornelis.
  15. Here is a question about the rules. Can a boat that left from the little Salmon River run into the Oswego Harbor at finishing time instead of having to run back to the Little Salmon River and vice versa? This is very important if the salmon are very close to or even west of Oswego ,but not close to Mexico bay at all. Last year there were no salmon anywhere near Mexico bay. They were in front of Oswego and Port Bay. The time it would take us to run to the salmon would have cut our fishing time in half and this made it very hard for us to compete. Cornelis
  16. Remember to keep the wife happy ,or that is what you will end up doing
  17. The six horse probably has an idle adjustment screw. instead of using your tiller you can just adjust it to a higher idle and troll that way
  18. For fish finders,The Sitex SVS 650 with an Airmar P66 transducer will give you the most bang for your buck at $625 if purchased through Semperfi fishing on "the hull truth"
  19. That sounds like a 19 to 21 foot open bow with a powerful outboard and some canvas to close the bow and create a cuddy like steering house. don't forget an easily removable kicker. You should look into some Grady White rigs.
  20. Last year a 40+ brown was caught in Lake Michigan. The same size should be around here too.
  21. There is no need to be too precise about a transducer that is only used at trolling speed . Just make sure that it is looking straight down and make sure that the edge of the transom does not interfere with the cone.
  22. There is the channel that goes from the markers that Tom talks about all the way to the outlet. It is between 13 and 5 foot deep you can run up and down the channel flat lining or with the riggers at 2/3 foot down.I picked all sorts of surprizes out of there. Don't try to use the boards.
  23. A Dibellas sub what else could it be?
  24. With a name like ssafran Mellow Yellow comes to mind.
  25. I am a member and do also have the tow service thing, mostly because I do most of my fishing alone at crazy hours.I've never needed them, but it does give me peace of mind. The tow service is not very fast. They have a few (3?) boats on trailers to cover the south shore . I've always wondered about how to reach them when out of cell phone range.
