  1. Last year I caught a few 30+ inchers in November in the eastern arm close to the eastern shoreline in 14 feet of water on the edge of the weed line with live bait. I presume that it holds big ones. I have no idea if there are any muskies.
  2. It is my feeling that in a few years the urge will be back and a boat will not be far behind. Good luck on your new adventure.
  3. Your wide open throttle rpm should be closer to 4400. Lower rpm at WOT means that your engine is working too hard and cannot get up to the ideal rpm for WOT. The 17 pitch may be a good choice but you can also drop down to a 14 inch with 17 or 19 pitch this will give you less of a hole shot but it will get your rpm up to where it should be. Here is a website that will give you a lot of info about props. When you open it it seems like just advertisement but when you scroll down you will find a sea of information. http://www.propline.com/Propeller-Gener ... _Wheel.pdf
  4. Just got back from Keuka Lake This time I tried something different.Fishing the North end toward Penn Yan I put out the otter boards and in 20/30 feet of water, roughly at the edge of the weed line and over weed islands, I pulled live bait (mooneyes) on 3 colors of leadcore with 30 feet leaders and an 8 inch steel leader at roughly 1 to 2 mph about 50 feet off to the side. I caught nothing spectacular but in 3 hours it gave me 9 pike and 4 bass. Does anybody else here ever troll for pike?

  6. If you plan to fish Rochester, you should count on down currents in the 4 to 5 mph range. After the reports and the tweet pics of the fish finder with the exact GPS location I went out to 16 to 17 north and 33 west to find a loaded screen thinning out and turning blank with 4 to 5 mph down currents going in almost every direction. That switch from southern to western winds this afternoon screwed things up already
  7. It was supposed to start this evening,so I took half a day off and went fishing this afternoon only to witness the first rain showers coming in and the lake filling up with white heads and nasty waves. I'll take my kayak to Owasco Lake tomorrow and see if it is any better there.
  8. On the Iboats website there is a forum about restoring boats. This is usually with lots of pictures, which are taken throughout the process.Every time they tear down a Bayliner there is very clear evidence of extremely sloppy work.where closed cell foam sheets are supposed to be there usually are just a few globs of the stuff and these are often moldy and full of water.Often the stringers or what is left of them are just empty fiberglass skeletons and all the wood inside has rotted away, because of lousy workmanship. The late eighties Bayliners with those nasty Force outboards are called Bilge Liners for a very good reason!
  9. While in the service I did naval demolition and standing orders were to never wear anything highly visible. In spite of that we were accompanied by several barracudas in the 5 to 6 foot range during most of our dives. They were interested in our masks, but they just used to swim along and they never attacked.
  10. You know Vince, business people will always choose the most profitable direction. And when money comes in from a different place, that is where they will go. Like any politician,Palladino is for rent and not for sale.Besides I wonder who owns him.
  11. Hello Mark Well first of all,get yourself a VHF radio and hook it into your GPS.Then sign up for an mmsi number, which you will have to set into your radio. When you push the distress button on your radio, every coast guard station and every boat around will pick up your distress signal together with your exact location from your GPS. Your MMSI number will be part of your broadcast and the Coast Guard will have access to all the info that comes with it (home phone, whom to contact, your name, and so on.).All of this without you having spoken a word. Tomorrow I will ask a Coast Guard officer I know if there is a special texting number for marine emergencies in this area. Get in touch with Anthony ( Pike Hunter),he can probably give you a sea of information. Cornelis.
  12. That must have been in preparation for the attack from Canada.
  13. I fished for trout and land locked in the Finger Lakes at night and it can be very succesful. The secret is in realizing that at night the entire food cycle happens a lot higher up in the column and not neccesarily in the ideal temperature range. The micro organisms feed on or near the surface at night and bait fish follows them up,which in turn will bring the kings close to the surface. It should be noted that around the times when the light changes is usually the ideal time to fish
  14. On the west coast they are a bit more common although still very rare.Scientists are very keen to recreate this co-nook because, like other hybrids, they probably are sterile. If they can be mass produced in hatcheries and released. They will provide a good food source, but being sterile they do not endanger the genetic make up of the wild strains of salmon. It would be like Tiger muskies, half pike half muskie but sterile. So far science has not succeeded.
  15. There probably is nothing to worry about. Impellers in fresh water tend to last for a long time and there should be nothing wrong with a 2009 one.I presume that you are talking about the peehole which shows you that cooling water is running up to the engine. Just take a piece of very flexible wire and shove it into the hole with the hose hooked up.jerk it back and forth a few times. Now start the engine and see if there is any improvement. If there is a cooling problem, there are 2 ways to detect it.First the overheat alarm on your remote control will go off,but if you do not trust that ,then take off the cowling and while running the engine in the water put your hand on the engine. If it burns your hand, there is a problem, but if it is possible to hold your hand on there for a while, say 30 seconds, then your system is in good shape
  16. I somehow feel that you would have misused a bottle of Golden Molson by smashing it over the intruders head.
  17. There are a lot of Ugly Fishing Oldies on the water.
  18. I did some homework on the why and how of this break off and a more experienced fisherman would have prevented this from ever happening. My mistake was having the leadcore in the clip. The clip probably caused the lead wire to break and the ends must have rubbed the braid housing thereby damaging it.The break off was at the point where it had been in the clip. The fish was dragging about 300 feet of line + dodger and lure and was still fighting and trying to throw the hook on the surface when it was netted. From here on I will put a few feet of 50 or 80 pound dacron braid between the leadcore and the super braid backing. From now on the clip will go on the dacron which is thick enough to hold well in the clip while super braid is too thin and just slips out. Cornelis
  19. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Rolmops ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8-25-10 Time on Water:2.00pm-5.30 pm Weather/Temp:pleasant 70s Wind Speed/Direction:none Waves: none Surface Temp: 60/62 Location: Due North of Oak Orchard on the 29/30 line LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:Steelhead Hot Lure: Yellow coho dodger with orange dream weaver ss with green herring bone Trolling Speed: 2.2/2.5 Down Speed: 1.9/2.8 Boat Depth: 560 FOW Lure Depth:40/60 We ran out from Rochester and launched at Captains Cove. Next time we will launch closer to the outlet.Once on the lake we went straight to the 29 line using the twitter info, but once there, the screen showed an eerie emptiness. We found 42/43 degree water about 65 foot down and parked a wonder bread spindoctor with a green fly down there and a Mag NBK on the other rigger at 50. the copper went out 400 feet with a green spindoctor pulling a kevorkian and the planer board went out with 10 colors leadcore pulling a yellow coho flasher and the orange dream weaver. There was silence until around 4.15 pm.Then we went on the north-west troll we had our first hit on the leadcore but we were late due to sleepiness in the sun and we lost it.We started making more north west and south east trolls and a little bit later on the north west troll we had another hit which yielded a nice 5 pound steely again on the leadcore. Then the real one came by,north west again. It hit the leadcore like a steam train and almost instantly broke the surface while jumping and shaking. It broke the line, but just kept on trashing on the surface. So we turned the boat, hurried back and netted it.On the scale it made slightly under 16 pounds, which is nice for a steel head In short we can now truly tell the story about the one that got away but we caught it anyway.Tomorrow it will join us for dinner. Cornelis. ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ====================
  20. It should work fine, just remember that you have no stretch so you have to set your drag accordingly. Spiny water fleas love power pro.
  21. I used it for a while-250 pound test-the material is good and it causes less blowback than wire because it is very thin, but it is so thin that sometimes it binds up on the reel. My problem with it is fear of having it cut by a wire line or a copper line that accidently rubs it for a while. (lures are a lot cheaper than down rigger weights or probes).
