  1. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Rolmops ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/8 Time on Water:0.700-16.00 Weather/Temp:nice weather in the seventies Wind Speed/Direction:South,early on around 10 freshening to 15,in the afternoon South -west easing up to around 7 Waves: 2/4 Surface Temp: 71.5 Location:North/North-east of Russel LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:Kings Hot Lure: Green Spinny/green crinkle fly Trolling Speed: 1.4-3.4 Down Speed: 2.3-3.1 Boat Depth: 110-160 Lure Depth: 65/95 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== It was very easy going out with a Southern wind, and running out to 100 feet was no sweat,Thank you Blue Heron for the tip. Once out there it was a challenge to keep two riggers in the water not because of the fish but because of the waves and fishing solo. But Something is happening out there.Around 120 to 130 feet in 44 degree water there are huge bait pods accompanied by huge schools of small and big fish. They are spread out between 90 to 125 fow and rock solid.I tried with wonder bread but no go,with NBK both super slim and regular but no go until I put a green spinny with herring bone pattern and a green crinkle fly on the 95 and that one did all the damage. The ones caught were all between 5 and 15 pounds. The one that got away almost took 600 feet of copper with him.I had 600 feet out with a single Kevorkian and the hit on that one was very fast and furious It took 200 feet of backing out and while trying to get some back it threw the lure. It got to be a lot easier to fish as the wind turned south-west and eased up quite a bit but by then the action had died. I think that I need a steady fishing partner, that would make things a lot easier. How about it Mr Kremer 01? Cornelis.
  2. I run the 8'6" Eagle Claws for my downrigger rods and absolutely LOVE them. Never thought of using them for copper. Hmmm, got me thinking now..... I use them with 600 feet copper on a Penn 330GTI (great reels),but the tips are soft and I had to change them to carboloid tips
  3. What happens in Lake Ontario is in no way comparable to what happens in small lakes. When Honeoye Lake "turns over" it is pretty much the entire lake changing its surface with water from the bottom which is maybe a degree or 2 warmer. Lake Ontario mostly has movement of water and the wind and currents move huge masses of water with different temperatures around. One day with northern winds it may be 75 degrees on the southern shores, but when the wind turns south that water temperature can drop to 46.
  4. I use some of their gear and in general I am happy with it. There are a few problems though. Their Blue Chart map of Lake Ontario has a conflict with their US recreational map of Lake Ontario,They just don't fit each other right. Also,Many of their map source products don't have the proper drivers for a 64 bit computer and you are forced to keep an old computer in the basement so you can use map source CDs and transfer them to your GPS. Cornelis.
  5. Last time I fished there I spent most of my time staying clear of jet fleas and other boats. This time of year that place is wall to wall boaters.
  6. I bought one when I mostly fished the Finger Lakes and it was great while fishing the steep drop offs.On Lake Ontario I tried it for a while hoping to find fish off to the sides and then steering so the lines off the planer boards run through them, but it is very hard to gauge the distance without back ground structure to go by.
  7. In August it is a bit hard to get Stripers in Cape Cod Bay.It's just plain to warm for them and they follow the bait a bit farther north, although Billings Gate and Race Point off P-Town still harbor 30 and 40 pounders.Blue fish,5 to 15 pounders, on the other hand, specially on the Race are so thick and so greedy that you will get tired of catching them. One of the wildest things you can witness there is a Giant Bluefin coming out of the water 20 feet away from your boat just to cross over the shallows between the inner and the outer race.Never mind the the seals tagging along with your boat ready to steal any fish you get on your lines. In September, when they start migrating south is when the stripers are very greedy often pushing a school of pogies(bunker) on to the beach and blitzing so heavily that the water seems to be boiling, all of this within casting distance from the beach.
  8. I got another one from the same character, now using a slightly different name, this time with a full blown Nigerian scheme as in letter, bank account and what not. Now the handle he uses is A M_A B
  9. Thank you for your prompt action. Cornelis.
  10. Ray,I hope that it is all that simple. The fact is that somebody hacked into the membership file and ended up sending fake PMs, thereby gathering e-mail addresses and God knows what other information, possibly the credit card # that you use to pay your professional dues. Maybe it is time to drastically strengthen the online safety precautions that this website uses. Cornelis.
  11. I had the same. It came from Mariam2010 About that long walk.....,please let it take him far away from the places I frequent.
  12. Way to go Tom.It seems like you were in the same place where I was last night. Cornelis
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):07-30-'10 Time on Water:from 6pm till 9.30 Weather/Temp:very nice low seventies Wind Speed/Direction:very light from the north east Waves: 1 footers and later less Surface Temp: 73 Location:in front of Russel Power station LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown:Kings, skippies and 2 big boys Hot Lure: wonder bread spinny with green krinkle fly,NBK SS and NBK Mag Trolling Speed:2.8 Down Speed:1.9-3.4 Boat Depth: 180/190 Lure Depth: early on 130 later 95 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Started out in 85 FOW but the water was 70 degrees at 75 feet so I went out to 180 where at 90 feet dependent on the down speed (different currents) the temperature went up and down between 40 and 58 degrees.I started with an empty screen but at least there was the temperature thing. As the hour got later, the screen started filling up with bait and very soon afterwards small and big fish between 35 to 65 feet and then again at 95.I lost some real big ones because of a shaker that did not even made the rod shudder and stayed on the rigger while some very big fish passed at the right depth. After that blunder I went back to using rubber bands, which made it easy to see the other skippies.Later on I got 2 big ones in the low twenties which made for a very nice evening out Cornelis. ====================
  14. My "add block+" prevented this site from opening and then it asked me to disable "add block" in order to help the economic recovery. I will not use a site like that.
  15. Try the kettle pond in Mendon Ponds. The pike are not very large ,but there are very many.
  16. It might have to do with the budget cuts in NY state. The dead deer pick up contractors normally get paid per deer, but the state has not paid them for quite a while now.
  17. I talked with the kwik fill people today and they told me that they will continue to supply ethanol free gasoline until December 31 when it will be illegal to sell ethanol free gas in NY State
  18. I always dump a bit of "seafoam" in my fuel.If it doesn't help,it certainly doesn't hurt.I have kept plastic fuel containers in my boat over the winter and the engine will start on that fuel next spring without any problems. There is however another problem that people do not pay attention to.It is called the half full can of fuel. If you have a half full can then the other half is air and water molecules are suspended in the air.The warmer the daytime temperatures, the more water molecules that air will hold.At night the temperature goes down and the water condenses and ends up in your fuel where some of it will just go down to the bottom of the tank and some will connect to the ethanol. If this process repeats itself for ,say, three weeks, you will have a sizable amount of water in your fuel and it may well cause trouble. In other words.Never leave a half full container in your boat.Either empty them out or fill them to the top at the end of your fishing day. That will prevent a lot of trouble. Cornelis
  19. I used to pull 2 600 foot leadcore lines in Keuka lake using 9 foot Eagle rods.on on each side of the boat.As long as the wave action was slow and the captain did not make any stupid short turns it worked fine. When catching a laker I would take care to not play but haul the fish up and in,while making sure that the boat would stay on a straight course. Even so I remember spending plenty of time unknotting spectacular foul ups. In Cape Cod Bay on my 35 footer (an old lobster boat I was given and fixed up with my brother in law) the stern is wide enough to have 2 300 foot wire lines out while jigging for stripers over 40 feet of water, but this goes with 5 ounce jigs and 300 is not 600. However,Ontario is not Keuka and Chinook are not lakers. Cornelis
  20. Anthony, you used up your portion of big fish last week,so don't get greedy.
  21. Anthony, you used up your portion of big fish last week.
  22. Be careful Glen, they'll turn you into the New England big fish Guru yet.I've heard rumors that you were born with a dream weaver spoon in your mouth. May your next fish be even bigger. Cornelis.
  23. Copper works really nice, specially when running solo.It is very user friendly. One thing however bugs the **** out of me.Why isn't copper wire color coded like lead core???.Right now I put on some colored tape every twenty feet and I am toying with dabs of different colored spray paint every 20 feet. Mr A-Tom-Mik,please consider selling color coded copper wire. Thanks,I just had to get this of my chest. Rolmops.
  24. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Rolmops ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7-16 Time on Water:5 pm-9pm Weather/Temp:70 degrees Wind Speed/Direction:west 10 + knots Waves: 2/3 feet Surface Temp: 71 degrees Location: ove 80 feet in front of the Genny LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown:steelhead, kings Hot Lure: NBK superslim, white spinny with green dots with a-tom-mik green/white fly Trolling Speed: 2.2-3 Down Speed:between 2 and 3.4 Boat Depth: between 70 and 95 Lure Depth:46 55 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Went out just to see what is going on. From about 50 FOW,there is lots of steelhead just under the surface, then the screen showed a monster pod between 46 and 60 feet down over 79 feet so I set up with one rigger with the spinny and a copper line about 300 foot out with a NBK. As the probe went down it turned out to be 39 degrees at 56 feet and at 45 feet it showed 44.5. The very large fish were all at the lower end of the school in the coldest water, but no matter what I offered them ,it took till around 8 in the evening for the bite to turn on.In 45 minutes I caught 2 nice kings on the copper and 3 steelhead on the rigger. One of the steelhead had a lamprey about a foot long. Now it is 2 times six inches. Apart from the wave action which made it hard to play solo it was very nice. Rolmops. ====================
  25. I used my 600 feet 36 pound test stranded copper line for the first time and when I reeled it back in there was a small clump of wire because of a broken strand.I want to cut out this bad section and retie the wire.Which is the right way to reconnect the wire?? Thank you for your help and advise,Cornelis.
