  1. I had the same rooster tail problem with my 575.A lot of noise has been made about this and Humminbird has come up with a rubber piece that fits in the space between the transducer and the part that is attached to the boat. They provide these for free. All you have to do is call their service department and they will send it to you.
  2. You can bring that a lot closer to our own Hudson Valley which was poisoned with PCBs to the point where there is a sharp increase in all sorts of cancer along the Hudson river. General Electric came, poisoned the land and abandoned it, leaving the local population to deal with the disastrous results of their presence. Most of our politicians are interested in re-election,not in our well being. Make sure that our politicians know that we will vote them out of office if they touch the lake.
  3. Why is that so amazing?? American companies own very many strategic assets in other countries. These companies are strong enough to change governments abroad. It is only to expected that foreign companies do the same here. The real question is not where the foreign company is based,it is who the real owners are. This may take you right back to American companies who figured out yet another way not to pay taxes.
  4. Today cabin fever got the better of me and I went outside and changed the bearings on my trailer. Are any of you guys without heated storage out there already to prepare things for spring?Or am I just a lone fool to start that early?
  5. I did some Pike fishing just south of Milliken Power station in Cayuga lake just on the edge of the current and I caught some nice ones in the mid thirty inch range although most were in the high twenties. One nasty surprise that was a lamprey on one of the pikes.that was the first time I ever saw one on a pike.
  6. The story is a bit more complicated and it has a lot to do with Europe. As longline mentioned, the males go to Europe and that is where the big trouble is. When the male eels are about to enter the European rivers they are at a development stage where they are called Glass Eels. They are about 80 to a hundred mm long and extremely popular as a gourmet food.So popular in fact that they are almost fished into extinction before they get very far inland. As a result very few males ever make it back to the Sargasso Sea.Lots of girls there, but no boys to play with.
  7. Bill,I have not yet come to the point where a picture is viable. All I have so far is a drawing and a pile of materials.Hopefully I will put it all together in the next few weeks,at which point pictures will be posted.
  8. I have been looking for parts and bits to build a planer board tower and my problem was mostly with the right reel to attach to the tower. A good person from East Rochester gave me his old Riviera manual downriggers and the reels are just ideal! If you consider building your own planer board tower, you must definitely look into getting those old Riviera reels. Rolmops.
  9. My 575 had the same problem. After the transducer was replaced it got to be a lot better, but the dual and triple beam transducers are very touchy and even the slightest bit of turbulence throws them off.
  10. There is a nesting pair very close to Rochester.Their eerie is just south of Empire Boulevard just on the east side of Irondequoit Creek near Ibay. They often cross Empire Boulevard with a fish in their claws.
  11. Signed as #556
  12. How high off the water should the planer mast be?
  13. My grand father was born on March 14th 1879........
  14. I am looking for an old Cannon mini-troll.The only parts that need to be good are the wheel, handle and break part because I intend to use it as a planer board line reel on a planer board mast that I am building. thank you, Cornelis
  15. As I type this I am looking at 4 healthy deer laying in my backyard in Brighton just off Elmwood Avenue.Whatever gets them out in the wild has not yet reached the suburbs. Me thinks that the first sightings of Coyote in our suburbs is not far off. They will probably bring rabies and attacks on pets, maybe even small children.Let's hope that Coyote hunting will be promoted before coyote poisoning is needed.
  16. What you say about ethanol not damaging fiberglass is true.the problem is with the glue that was used in older tanks, this glue dissolves .
  17. I like it from the horse's mouth,go to: http://www.garelick.com/files/12.185.pdf
  18. Today, the state of Michigan filed suit against the Corps of engineers in an effort to make the corps close a 5 mile stretch of the canal thereby completely disconnecting the Mississippi from the Great Lakes.
  19. Thanks for a great job,Tom. But I would like to add to some of your ideas All your info is well grounded but I think that the investors are a few steps ahead of us. The Rochester/Ontario ferry comes to mind. The investors gave themselves huge salaries during the planning and development stages while they gathered loans and took care not to invest any of their own money. As the project advanced past the point of no return all sorts of extra costs appeared out of nowhere, and the politicians who had promoted the projects had their careers to think of,so they coughed up the money(yours and mine). In the end the ferry appeared and failed, leaving the bill behind for you and me. Renaissance Squire (with $16+ million wasted in planning) and the Rhinos stadium are similar examples. After having seen all the information that you produced,I can only conclude that these wind mills are doomed to fail just like the other projects, but along the way to their demise some people will get very rich and we will yet again be served with a very hefty bill.Even if these projects never come of the ground, the "investors"will have made a very hefty bundle of money and they will own a few more politicians all of this at our expense I do support alternative energy, but this project is not about producing energy,it is about some people getting very rich at our expense.
  20. The obvious alternative would be to convert to judaism. BUT then you would have to contend with your now jewish wife laying guilt trips on you ALL year.
  21. There is the alternative possibility of buying a Garmin cd called U.S. Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots East v5. Down load it into your computer and buy an empty cartridge for your 182 GPS now all you have to do is go into the disc, pick what lakes you want and down load them into the cartridge. Now stick the cartridge back in the GPS unit and that is all there is to it. The cartrides are available on eBay and so are the gizmos that you need to stick the cartridge in, in order to connect to your computer.I have all the East coast with every single lake on one 120 meg cartridge which cost me $28 and I did not even use half the cartridge. The whole thing cost me $150 not $300 This also gives you the ability off setting up way points and charting a course at home in front of your computer and downloading it into your cartridge, That way you can set up your course of the day in the comfort of your home. I have used this system for 5 years now and it works great.
  22. I got one in the thousand islands, but that would not really count.
  23. I fish 2 leadcore lines with 17 colors each. That is all that will fit on the reels (daiwa 57lc).I use them mostly on Keuka lake trolling live bait for lakers and I find that at 1.6 mph with 14 colors out I can make it down to 110 feet. The more streamlined the bait, the deeper it goes. With dream weaver super slims I can get close to the same depth but anything bigger brings the lines up a lot higher.I guess it is the water resistance of the lure in combination with the weight of the line. 18 and 27 pound test have the same amount of lead per foot so 18 pounds gets you a lot deeper. A real interesting sinker is being made by the stinger company. They call them dive bombs. They may make a very big difference. As for inline planer boards, not a good idea.20 colors weight quite a few pounds by them selves.Every time I reel in 13 or 14 colors it feels like a huge fish.If you add an inline planer to that, you will need a very heavy duty fishing rod
  24. Did you ever think of adding a layer of gluvit and then paint it?
  25. You may want to look into the Humminbird 575.It transduces on 3 different frequencies, which gives you a very wide beam and although it is black and white,it has 16 shades. They are not usually available in stores and have to be bought online. When I bought mine last year it was $245,and that is probably what it is now.
