  1. Holy crap, it must be winter. Yankee how many days to real fishing?
  2. I bought 2 seven foot one piece ml 8-12lb rated and put old 27 series diawas on them. They are a riot. Reels are much more important with the kings. These rods dont stay in the water if we fish over 30' deep. Lakers will put a beating on the light gear in the spring.
  3. It is in place. Four months to fishing.
  4. Core for spring. Copper in fall. Copper is deeper running. Lead is much easier to use for many reasons. Lead is much more forgiving if mistakes are made. Once you kink copper its integrity is compromised. When money was tight we would use core until the end of july, then switch to copper. I would suggest 300' max in both for a season before going longer. Good luck. They both catch alot of fish.
  5. Im glad its over, and looking forward to next year. A little more normal pattern with wind and water temps would be great. When does the boom come out?
  6. Im in clarence six miles north of lancaster. Got four inches total. Thats how crazy this is. Northern subs two to four inches. Got to see the pics of the clouds off lake erie. Unreal.
  7. Im always looking for them in good shape. Being from buffalo thats a bit far. Great price, im sure you wont have it long. Good luck.
  8. Fishing is a tough sport. Hats off to anyone who does it for a living.
  9. This is not the first thread on this subject. I bought a new sxt5 last winter and used it once. It did not mix well with the old mag 10s. The speed coming up changed the angle and grabbed the other lines. I was lucky to find a post in classifieds and traded the new rigger for four old reliables. Mags. The way cannon dropped the price on the sxt 5s was to use less expensive parts. The cable that comes with the new modles has been mentioned a few times. If i were to go that route again, changing the cable would be part of my set up. Those probes are expensive.
  10. The base that comes with the 5s do fit on the old swivels. The long booms from the old mags also fit the new 5s.
  11. Google Dewit Clintons journal. Great winter read. Clinton kept a journal of his trip across new york state in 1810. Detailed description of fish and wildlife across the state.
  12. Great lookin boat. We fish a contender with a hard top. Noise is not an issue. It will change the way it handles. Most hard tops are heavy. Tipsy feeling.
  13. You can, it will work. Im kind of an odd ball. We use 30# dacron as a main and 30# pline as a leader. I started a couple years ago because the dacron is so cheap. It also lasts much longer. I get a couple years out of my main line. Its also the only combo ive ever seen that can rap around a rigger cable and not break. 1200' of 30# dacron sells for $33. Only buying one roll every other year...you know.
  14. R-E-L-A-X there is alot of good fishing left. Theres a ton of fish. Lake ontario rocks!!!
  15. Is going through the eye any worse than tring to get a treble out of a shaker. When all three hooks lock the moulth. I end up eating more fish this way.
  16. All you can do is keep them sharp. Kings in the fall have hard almost bone like moulths. Some days we are lucky to land ten percent. You can drive yourself crazy with this question. I love the owners hooks
  17. Allways do better with standard size. White glows. Dots and spots were tops.
  18. I agree. Bait on the west end was as nonexistant as the kings. Most years water temps top out near 80 degrees. The bar made it up into the sixtys than flipped twice. Fall loc the temp was a consistant 40 degrees. I wont speak for the whole lake. The temps killed us most of the season. There was a huge pod of fish that came in september. I like to walk the gorge after the boats closed up. There are fish in all the holes I've been fishing for thirty years. Better luck next year. Whens the boom come out? Im ready. KINGS RULE!!!
  19. A lot of tlc. The other is money. The state makes its living this time of year. Guys there are no crowds in the catskills this time of year. Its a necessary evil. Three hour drive, no kings. Its been this way as long as i can remember. No more crickets was a huge upgrade. The fishing is world class in this state. I tend to believe the guys running this fishery know just what they are doing.
  20. No wonder the state doesnt care about the lifting of salmon. It doesnt really matter in the big picture. Give the dec guys some credit, this is a world class fishery. Even in this down year, its not goin anywhere. Pick up your litter and if your over 21 years old figure out how to drift sacks.
  21. Im gonna try it this spring for the first time. Everyone that uses it seems to give good reviews.
  22. Boat launch at the fort or sand docks. Power project water outlets hold a ton if they are hard to find elsewhere.
  23. Talked to three that did limits last two days. Does everyone limit out daily...no. there is a run going on that is the same as every other year. The question in this thread was where are the kings. Its oct.1. The answer every year is the matures have run the big river. Ya there are straglers. Majority are dying in the river.
