  1. Ivan....Great Syracuse.com article! thanx for sharing ...
  2. Jimski2.... Good thing the offender was transporting (probably for live sale at the fish market) Grass carp. They are cool. much like common carp and koi and goldfish, but different and harder to catch, being way more wary. They do not fly out of the water, or, like the Bighead and Silver, eat phytoplankton. The way the last two species consume phytoplankton is like clear cutting a forest to get some lumber, or overfishing by some commercial ventures. They can leave little behind for others (mostly young fish and whatnot) to live on. And the flying out of the water thing offers obvious issues for enjoying the waters. Grass carp are also not crazy prolific like Biggies and Silvers.....
  3. Man....at least the fourth or fifth (can't recall) stolen property posting this year on LOU. How many others R not being made mention of here? Vengeance expressions help to blow off steam (needed) and can help put other eyes on the matter. Thieves may "get off" on hearing or thinking they have pissed off and made people feel bad. Everybody who scrimps and saves or just flat out honestly owns (not through thievery!) stuff needs to think through how to protect it. Don't leave stuff for too long unguarded, keep things locked out of sight if possible, try not to make assumptions on any given area's relative security, and if possible, insure the goods. And keep in the back of the mind that given all of that, **** still can happen! It's an age old problem. Nothing new. It is at least a good thing that most of these kinds of thefts are cowardly, behind the back type rip-offs. You'll know it will be bad when confrontational, even weapons point robberies over tackle and such occurs. Let's just hope this stuff stays with the original thief and does not get purchased and used by another....That seems like maybe NOBODY cares what they have and how they got it!
  4. WOW! .....yeah. let's see some more verification of this thing....! BTW, this looks like a 60lb fish......
  5. Underwater cameras really are a great learning tool! Fantastic shots of following fish.....And love the spoon shot followed by that RIPPIN', SCREAMIN' king hit!!
  6. Niiicce king for the first time ! Especially good for someone from the Addison area (sweatshirt). LOve that river and it's valley there by county rt 119....
  7. Maybe some worms in that "soil" they were moving..... Shoulda followed them.......might have been some better fishing !!
  8. Kings, cohoes, hybrids...... they're all good and we're all fortunate we have them available to catch!....Nice fish and great job at trying to get to the bottom of it, especially the dissection .
  9. Thank you....even though I don't often fish Cayuga.....thank you!
  10. Great story...and fish!!! And, there is something to be said about trolling at lower speeds for the BIGGEST kings. Never had enough results to make a pattern, but, the biggest king I ever caught (estimated 35lbs.) was actually almost a double. We had slowed way down to land a beaut approx. 28-30lb. king. We were "fumbling and stumbling" around and did finally land it. Then there was some drama in trying to untangle a nightmare and release the fish in good condition, still barely trolling along, when another downrigger released and therein began a really good fight with another big king. This fish was the big (bigger!) one. There was no scale on board. But we have caught enough to understand these were BIG fish. Both were released....
  11. This kind of looks like some kind of fun. But it will be no joke when these and there bighead cousins get into the big lakes, and other waters like the finger lakes connected to them via natural and man made connectors (the New York State Canal system, etc.)..... !
  12. Congratulations on the new ride.....and way to break it in with that nice king!!
  13. Yeah, kings don't always have spots; even on bigger fish......But both flukes of the tail have spots=king. And the clipped adipose fin thing=king......
  14. Excellent!!!! Sounds like the bass are "gobied-up" ! It is time for smallmouths in lakes and rivers, before they venture deep to winter, and slow down (some!). Seems like it is almost always feeding time, but there is even more urgency in them with the cooler months ahead. WTG. Wish I was there. Have hit the Larry in September-October and always did well on them and other fish, but not after a cold front.....Give a report on your next venture there, please.....!
  15. BrookTrout....A couple of seasons ago out on the Big O, we caught a very nice 15#+ Atlantic while in the summer LOC derby. We thought for sure we had a BIG MONEY brown, as the fish was not silver like the landlocks in the fingers. The tail, when compared to other browns and other salmonids in the box (good Lake O mixed bag of kings, cohoes, browns, steelies, lakers, and a WAY out of place large smallmouth), was not decidedly forked. It really did look like a brown. but we were unsure, as we kept going back over it right down to the time we went to Mitchell's in Charlotte to weigh in the MONEY fish (hopefully!). Alas, of course, with several others around, it was deemed to be an Atlantic. The smaller head and mouth size is what made the decision. An absolutely beauteous fish that confirmed all of the good work that New York and Ontario have put in down the years in re-establishing this fish back towards its original place in the lake. With some reports of 20+ pounders being landed, it looks as if that part of the fishery is on the way up....if we can keep the silver and bighead carp from invading!
  16. Yes, bigger mouth, lower on the side spots and, well, I guess that IS a "square" tail as opposed to a forked one...= brown trout. Thanks.... my eyes are not deceiving me ....Good show, nice catch,,,,,and good eats !
  17. BrookTrout.....The "headed for the grill" shot...an age old issue...Is that a LL salmon on top and a brownie on the bottom ....or R they both LLs? I SHOULD know, but my eyes keep deceiving me ...!
  18. pap...... U r kidding, of course.....Hanh...?...? Seriously?!
  19. ..........."So many choices and so little time"............. ........ Amen to that!!!
  20. Have not tried there specifically, but I have heard that 'eyes can be found regularly where the Black Creek enters the Genesee on the way to Scottsville down Scottsville Rd before Jefferson Rd??? I know the Genny has them; have recently heard a lot of bad things about their taste (which they are famous for) being not good if caught in the lower Genesee north of Rochester. I have caught them in the Genny way to the south just south of Letchworth and they were good eats....But have heard it is not difficult to get them from the river at the piers at the Big O,again if you're not fryin' them up. Have done well with nice ones at dusk and after dark along and near shore casting and trolling on Honeoye, during the fall and spring in cooler weather, but have not been in over a year and have heard a couple of personally unverified not-to-great things about there this year.....they do taste great from there, though!
  21. This is really a fascinating behavior! I have never witnessed it. I saw the pics of this in some previous posting at LOU in the past. Any ichthyologists or fisheries biologists out there who can offer any real info??.....
  22. And put out some stouter equipment.... that can catch the 'eyes AND anything bigger (big muskies, giant northers, etc.!)
