  1. Dad has gone out I think twice on his boat this year and was skunked both times so I had to break the ice for him. So I took himout fishing for about 4hrs out of Deans with his boat! Dropped down the riggers first, something I don't ever do and while I was setting up the dipsy's wham bam fish on the rigger parked at 60ft with a chickenwing spoon. Just a a 5lb laker but a good start so I thought. My plan was to travel south out of deans and then head straight across to longpoint. Then north past Aurora where my honey was then back across the lake and South back to Deans. Well fishing was not to bad until I made it North of longpoint traveling that route. We picked up 6 fish, 1 weighing over 8lbs before hitting longpoint and then just like that not a single fish until we got back to Deans which I picked up a small LL. So we were 7 for 7. Dad was happy as could be but I just could not believe I made it through my honey whole with out picking up a single fish that we did almost 50 fish a week and half ago. I ran 2 dipsys and 2 riggers. Riggers took 6 fish and wire took 1 but the biggest fish. I just could not make my wire move. Riggers did well between 40 and 60 down. Best 2 spoons were chicken wing and Watermelon. I will be back out Sunday morning after I get out of work with a bunch of my old high school buddies. Should be fun. Hope to see you guys out there. Sorry I did not take more pics but here is dad pulling in his big laker. I forgot to take a picture of him holding it. Next time.
  2. I don't recommend stacking them for one really good reason. If a stick or some weeds slide down your line it may release the Roemer. It will be a big mess!
  3. I have the depth raider and love it! I don't think you can go wrong with the subtroll, fishhawk or Cannons. They are all good units as well.
  4. I think I am going to have to order one as well
  5. I use the roemer liberators which is the third pic down in the above topic. I just attach a free slider setup onto the roemer to make it fixed. 1 rod thats it. What I like about them is you just slip your main line into the grove and turn this piece which locks it on your line. Then you pull the tab up which pinches your your main line to make it a fixed. When your reeling your line back in with a fish you can either take the cheater off or just keep reeling and when the roemer hits your eye let it will slide down to the fish. It just gives you the option. Personally I could go either way between the offshore releases or Roemers. I'm not a fan of the rubber bands but they do work well. Alberta Clipper sounds like your style all right
  6. To answer your first question. Your main line will arch with the current and boat speed so the free slider will not reach your downrigger ball untill you release your main line. If you leave a little slack in your main line the greater the arch in your main line. Fixed sliders can be made several ways. 1 is the half hitched rubberband as you mentioned, 2 is have the lenght of the leader you want and tie a swivel on one end. Next, slide an off shore release or planerboard release without the showercurtain clip onto the leader. Tie another swivel to the other end of the leader and you have a cheater. This works really well. Just clip the swilvel to your main line and pinch the release in the desired location. 3rd which I currently use the most is the roemer. Hope this helps.

  13. LOL! I think its time you get a trailer and a big truck I'm hoping to make it over to Seneca in couple of weeks. I'm going to be in Olcott the next five days
  14. You got it. Fixed cheaters stays where you put it. You can use rubberbands as well. Set up your downrigging rod the way you want it and send it down 10 to 15ft. Clinch a rubberband on the line and snap your freeslider on the rubberband and main line. The rubberband acts as and ancor. Small fish wont break the rubberband but some big fish will and it will just slide down to your other hook. This works very well but is a little bit more work.
  15. Great Pics! I can't wait for the Red Cross as well! Will be my first time!
  16. I never run solo but when I am with just 2 guys I am running 4 wire dipsy rods hands down. If things are slow or I want to hit shallow water then I will switch 1 to 2 divers for downriggers. Dipsy's just seem to out produce everything. Diddo on what skip mentioned with free sliders and flasherfly combo's. Its a mess every time. I run fixed cheaters on my flasher fly combos. I will run free sliders over spoons but even then I really liked fixed cheaters. I can't remember who makes them but I use these fix cheaters that locks on your line and also pinches your line where ever you want to put it. Also, when it hits your eye lets it will release and slide down. Highly recommend them. I really can't remember who makes them.
  17. Your doing very well believe it or not. I have been fishing north of longpoint and have been pulling some slobs out but also catching smaller lakers as well. My suggestion would be run deeper. 100+ ft down. Go as far down as you dare. They just get bigger from there We have been fishing over 130 FOW and out. Flasher fly combo's have been hot for us but lately it seems that what ever we put infront of them they hit. I also was catching 4 to 8lb lakers on the riggers 60' to a 100' down. Most of them we just dragged cause of there light bite so check your lines often. Goodluck and post some reports
  18. I wish I could take a pic of my set up right now but I am at work. I have the big snap swivel on the wire. I hook that to the dipsy release eye. I have the mag dipsys on a 1 setting most of the time and the weight is tight. I use dream weaver snubbers and attach a 5' 30lb mono piece to the snubber. I then just use a quality snap swivels that I use for my downrigging rods to the spin doctors swivel. I have zero twist with this setup. When I send my dipsys out I loosen the drag. I don't ever disengage my drag. It goes out really slow like it can take 5 to 10 mins for it to get to the desired depth. I usually setting up other lines or doing something else while it goes down. I am now running a 4 dipsy rod setup and yet to have an issue. I hope this helps. Other things to check are to make sure the mag ring is flush with the dipsy. You can also change your spin doctor spin rate to the slower setting if you have not done that. That is where I keep mine.
