  1. A 1500 truck is hard to beat. A 6-cylinder will tow a 2,000 lbs boat no problem. If you want to go with an SUV and stay in the GM line-up, the replacement for the Trailblazer is the Acadia/Traverse/etc. Make sure you get one with a factory ordered trailer package. They have extra coolers installed at the factory. They do tow quite well and are rated for up to 5,200 lbs. The Tahoe/Suburban are built on a 1500 platform and are a great choice (but more money).
  2. I fried up some Otico walleye with a side of Sodus Bay perch awhile back and the eyes were way more fishy. I'm with Crappies being number 1...then perch...then eyes.
  3. First...wind on braid backing (minimum 450 ft). Buy a pack of these: http://www.fishusa.com/product/SPRO-Heavy-Swivels-SHSB?utm_source=bing_ps&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=bing_ps Improved clinch or trilene knot for braid connections. I like to tie in a 10 feet section of heavy mono between braid and copper for the planer board release. They slip more easily on braid. Copper twist for copper to swivel (Push the copper through and leave about 3 inches of copper to twist. Now, the first twist is important it is your set twist. You need to twist this first turn very tightly and very close to the swivels end. Then make about 10 more twists as close and tight as you can, this will ensure you won't have a falure with a big fish on. Then just cut off any exess and you're done) If the heavy SPRO swivel is too big to fit through your reel, you can down-size to a size 7 power swivel. http://www.amazon.com/Spro-Power-Swivel-Pack-Black-Size/dp/B000SHQHWA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=12SJCQ7PQVGQG8A78S7P Or you can do an albright knot. But that's most likely to be the weakest connection available and prone to failure. Have a partner help you wind on your copper. Keep a lot of pressure on the spool. If you have a rod mounted line counter mark it every 100 ft with tape. Tie copper to another swivel and 30 ft of 20 lbs floro. I use a smaller quality coastlock swivel thats small enough for a spoon. You can attach this to a flasher too. Or clip it to another spin dr swivel. So you can run either on it. With a spoon you'll get more depth.
  4. Check this the night before and just before you put your boat in the water: http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/LO/044.html
  5. Michigan stinger 1 OZ dive bombs are rated at 10-15. But they plane down.
  6. I was just re-reading an article about Sodus Bay in Lake Ontario Outdoors and they mentioned walleye fishing in the early am or on weekdays. Lol.
  7. Most of the pleasure boaters have no concept of what you were doing or what a planer board is or does.
  8. Tuf-line microlead. Small diameter takes up less space on the reel.
  9. Cool!! If you every see anybody out there with the same boat...that's me!!
  10. Sounds like you had it set for down imaging. Switch it back to sonar (200 kHZ). Play around with the sensitivity. What you described is what it looks like when you have it set for down imaging. You won't get hooks/arc's. Just grouped dots. It might not mark your rigger balls or streakers. Down imaging is a narrower beam/cone. It's not ideal for deep water trolling. It's designed more for still fishing in shallower water.
  11. Yeah, i did that for awhile with a strip of microfiber towel. I didn't really notice any difference in the number of bites.
  12. Man, that's a sharp Bayliner!! Have a safe trip.
  13. I've been running 3-color cores on 30 lbs big game and it's worked flawlessly.
  14. The first time i ever fished copper was "pulling wire" on Owasco. I can see why people adore doing it. It's truly an art! I un-knowingly dragged a 5 lbs Laker around for 20 minutes and never even knew he was on. LOL. And the copper back-lashed off the spool (an old bicycle wheel) we were using. What a mess! I appreciated the old timer that took me out. We also fished sawbellys with the english hooks threaded through the back. I liked that much better!
  15. A lot of steelhead around! And a great class of them!! We dumped quite a few yesterday out of Sodus. We landed at least 5 over 10 lbs. Some great aerial shows!! Ended up 15-22. No browns or salmon.
  16. I was assuming all along summer king fishing. But this is what i do except 15 or 20 on my spring king/brown rods with 12 lbs leader. Then i break out (or re-spool) with 30 lbs sea-flee, big game or flea flicker and up the leader to 15...when the fleas show up. I up the leader to 20 later in the summer. And run no leader with flashers.
  17. Yup, i had a biggun break the uni-knot between a leader and mainline. That's why i use the spro swivel now.
