  1. Yup, we pretty much got skunked too. No marks or bait. Dragged 2 skippys around for awhile is all.
  2. Dennis was kind enough to let me hitch a ride with him today. We launched at Wrights at 6:00. Set up shop in the 400 range and trolled out past 480 with a blank screen. We changed directions a few times then headed back shallower. We washed lures for two hours, changed colors around, played the up/down game with the lures and shook our heads at a totally blank screen. Finally he points to the screen and says we got something here.....i turn around just as the 135 corner rigger starts throbbing. After a nice fight, we slide the net under a 20 lbs ish mature on a black spin dr with green and glow tape/habanero attomik. We un-hook it, get a pic, release it and set the rigger back down. We troll a little more shallower. After quite a few minutes i'm lolly-gagging with something. He points to the center rigger and its popped. I grab the rod and I start reeling. The fish is being coy and I comment i think I have a laker or a brown. A few seconds later he peels some major drag. Takes a few more runs, goes into a wire diver and we net him on the side of the boat. This King is a few lbs lighter than the last but still a fun fish to play with. And definetly not the big money derby fish we're after. He took a mag moonshine RV happee meal. We turned around and trolled through the same area several times. With some heavy rain, thunder and a couple claps of lightning. Sky brightens and we rot for the rest of the morning. We throw the towel in at 12:30. NOAA was accurate with waves less than 1 ft. And the fleas weren't too bad.
  3. You def had a kink. Never had that knot fail.
  4. A lot of times the lake is smoother in the afternoon/evening. We took some nice fish a few weeks ago about 1.5 hours before...till sunset at the Oak.
  5. https://www.empowerfcu.com/?Cabinet=Main&Drawer=Personal&Folder=Rates&SubFolder=Consumer+Loans&Page_Name=Consumer+Loans This credit union has very-very low rates for new and used boats.
  6. I use AFW and the one thing I like about it compared to the other brands is it will saw through the fleas easier. It's a little more coarse in texture. So don't let a big king run across it on a rigger rod.
  7. Davenports bait and tackle has a bunch of NK's. They are on the SE side of Sodus Bay.
  8. I bought 2 Daiwa Sealine 57LC on sale through Cabela's for $109.99. They are the same reel as the Seagate 50 but with a LC. Tournament drag, 6.1 gear ratio, oversized line aperture and capacity. They are back on sale. Check your email for any promotions. I got free shipping on mine back around Father's Day. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Daiwa-Sealinereg-LC5-Linecounter-Reel/1750475.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3FrecordsPerPage%3D18%26No%3D0%26N%3D0%26nl%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DDaiwa%2BSealine%26search%3DSearch&No=0&Ntt=Daiwa+Sealine
  9. I tie the bead chains to the leader of the meat rig. Then just clip the paddle to the bead chain.
  10. Depends on the species you want to target.
  11. My buddy has a Furano 1870 and its a great unit! And will be next.
  12. I've used 20 and 30 lbs flea-flicker and the blood run line. They all work great for fleas! They all slip in a blacks release...use 8 twists.
  13. Buck...give me a holler when you head up to the Oak. I'll have time to stop out. If you need a co-pilot.
  14. I remember somebody mentioned (awhile back) running a 200 copper stacked on a rigger 40 ft above the ball. You can get a high speed Saltist and get the depth (and action) of a long copper with a lot less reeling. I would imagine the 32 lbs blood run copper must be easier to reel and a little more forgiving on the arms.
  15. Heard their was a 38 lbs king caught off Toronto over the weekend!
  16. Nice report and trip Buck!! Those screamers are what we live for!!
