  1. Les I so remember that year, walking out on the long pier and passing the second pier on ice.
  2. Good luck everyone. Shoot straight. Being the bucks seem to be still chasing you might want to just wait that extra second on that doe. He might be right behind her.
  3. I can see it now " kids I need you to stay inside and play x box just this once while I go out and work on the play set" lol
  4. From what I learned back in the day is the spurs can generally tell you whether it's a Juvie or an adult however late fall the Juvie spurs almost match the adult. Then the tail feather length and weight can be used. In general though you can only really tell a Juvie from an adult out in the field. Not the # of years old but then again someone who hunts the Dakotas sure has seen more pheasants than us nyers by far so I wouldn't put a he's wrong about the age. It's a nice bird.
  5. Thanks everyone. Good luck to those going out this coming week. The rut is on.
  6. I love the teaching your giving him with also letting him figure things out on his journey. Great stuff. Wait till the day when he's saying" dad I'll put you in this stand I've been passing up bucks in". That's what it's all about.
  7. Thanks Les. Yea he had some shoulders on him. The rut is ready to pop.
  8. I haven't been out since Mike picked me up at the Ramada one day to get me out of work for a few hours to catch some. With a deer hangin and on vacation I'll be able to now I hope
  9. So all year my youngest has been so excited to get out with me and go deer hunting. We grabbed the blind and headed out in the rain yesterday afternoon. Oh yea, want to mention he had to bring his Nerf bow and arrow. We set up just inside a thicket adjacent to the cornfield with a good view down in the swamp. Sat about an hour or so watching chipmunks and squirrels and low and behold we have movement in the swamp. My son jumps up and does what? Grabs his nerf bow lol. Anyway with a little getting settled and with him unzipping the side so I could get a shot, I get him to stop 25yds and drill him. Cool thing was Brody had a front row seat to the show. He even was able to spot the blood while we were trailing. After a 100 yd walk we found him balled up. Thank god for a dry swamp. Got some help from my brother with a four wheeler, out he came. It was priceless after the hit to watch my sons reaction and enjoyment through the whole event. I think we have another outdoorsman signed up for the future..
  10. I'll tell you guys a funny story and make it somewhat short. Shot tons of shoots, 3D, Vegas etc back in the day and attended a Bernie Pellerite nffa training camp for those who know him. All of us had new bows 31 inch long etc. I shot high handed grip, arched at the hip, shoulder raised etc as most others until the first day of training. He had everyone go through a measuring exercise and would tell you the length to put your brand new bow at. What? How am I going to get this bow to 28 inches? That's right 28 inches. Had to get a shorter string which by the way made your 70 lb bow reach only 55 if you were lucky. So picture everyone standing on the line after the bow modifications were made trying to shoot a bow 3 inches shorter. What a laugh. Any way after a couple of days of learning how to keep your shoulder down locked, hand down on the grip, standing straight not arched, the bow fit like it was a glove and I was as solid as a rock at 50yds. The moral of the story, there not too many on the tourney trail shooting 31 inches as there use to be. Go figure.
  11. That's awesome, thanks for sharing and kudos to you on keeping the faith for him. Great story!

    Seneca perch

I'm game... ocean city was tough, that low psi that came up the seaboard gave a ne 10-20 wind the whole time. I ended up catching 5 blues snapper size, hit a party boat in the bay for flounder with a bunch of tuna bound guys that were green from trying to go out early. That was fun. Never seen so many guys get off boats that were sick, god bless them for trying. I'll have to put some pics on, even caught some eels. I'd do it again. I'm ready for some perchin now.

  15. Man Les good going, with that many rainbows in one day what a feeling that had to been, wish I could get over there this weekend but I'm off to Ocean City for some surf fishing. Hope it stays for a bit. Mike
  16. Good news for the state and fisherman, wish it was at the north end though for boosting the area and local businesses......
  17. Not too bad Les, it's cool you were able to go after those suspended fish and see what they were. Kid had to be excited. By the way no biggies on Cayuga, but id tell ya there's a pickerel issue over there, holy cow.
  18. Nick and Theresa, as everyone has said, it was great to track, learn, and enjoy your posts both on the fishing and the places you visited. It was great to meet you and look forward to seeing you again. Have a wonderful holiday season. If you ever want to come up for the Seneca Gold (perch) this winter let me know.
